This version seems to be comprised of the original vocal tracks with the instrumental tracks muted. The feint music you hear in the background would be the slight 'bleed' from the headphones that the singers had on (allowing them to hear the music) while they sang into the microphone. Since recording mics are very sensitive, it will pick up a little of the sound coming from the headphone mix that the singer is hearing in his headphones.
@arden612 I you listen closely, you can hear the instruments in the back. This is not really an a cappella recording; what you hear is the voices of the original recording with the instruments being drowned out... But still it shows how good these guys were.

Yes back in the 60th Motown had alot of powerful groups. But The Temptations were so fantastic they were unbelievable. Thanks.

I had to make one more comment. Starting at about 1:28 those steps are awesome!! I've been watching this video over and over. I'm 47 years old and the temptations...the harmony, steps etc...CLASSIC. Its validated so well in this video! Thanks again, and you and your music are dynamite for real!!
