  • @findalive I work on a volunteer service and were on call 24/7/36, we do staff an EMT at all times though just for a quicker response time

  • This is what I want to do after college. Screw grad school.

  • i got a question> do paramedics or E.M.T. work everyday 7 days and everyday or they have and specific time,

  • @findalive i dont know let me know if you find out cause ive been trying to figure that out 2

  • @findalive some departments work 48 hour shifts then you get like 2 or 3 days off.

  • Love this song.. Look after you by The Fray

  • I just finished a First Responder class..and i've riden along with our local ambulance crew a couple times...and this job really opens your eyes to how valueable a life really is and how easy one can be lost

  • @wolftanner I don't think your a paramedic. Being a paramedic myself and working with hundreds of other paramedics not a single one of them would ever say they have "saved a life." Saving a life is a team effort and no one can do that by themselves, so to say that you personally have saved even thousands of lives is complete BS. Besides that fact if you werent there someone else would have done the same thing, so indeed it wasn't you "saving the life" but the ambulance service and hospital.

  • Hate to say it but If I knew I was only going to work IFT I probably wouldn't be an EMT. I need some 911 experience bad.

  • I love being an EMT

  • I love doing what I do Ive been in the feild since 1992

  • @wolftanner Millions of lives saved. Really? You must work for a very busy agency or you just like to make up stories. Your not really a medic are you?

  • what is the name of the first song of the video?

  • I would never shit on another ems worker. I'm from america and have worked fire and ems for 4 years and would never ever talk down to another brother or sister in the line of duty. We are all important, some call us the shepards of men whether Aussie, American, German, Dutch, Canadian, Polish, anyone anywhere who puts themselves before others deserves my thanks and respect. So thank you Australian ems for keeping up the good work and doing what we gotta do day in day out. Stay safe R.R.L.

  • Wow....did the person at 2:13 survive? Thank you for all that you people do.

  • i am a firefighter/emt for 4 years now. I started when i was 16. I can say if your are not ready for this job to become your life please dont do it. This job becomes something you are. The first think you thing about when you wake up is what the day will be like. The last thing you think about is how your day went. After enough time you just cant get enough of the job and it starts to take a toll on your body. Also you will not have much of a social life. But i would not trade it for the world.

  • nice video

  • that was truly amazing. you guys rock! thanks for sharing

  • hey mate i sent you an email, can you let me know if it came through, just about coming here and stuff.

  • Starting EMT class this week, should be alot of fun can't wait to jump in and do the work myself

  • that is so true in my 4 yrs as a basic i dont think i seen a real actual "save" in a cardiac arrest but my very first code i ran as a medic it was weird and on christmas this yr we actually got got a pt back from it and she converted into a nsr and like 4 hrs later we ran into her in the er and she was talking. it was a great feeling specially being on christmas day

  • respect to you paramedics in RSA!!!

  • people who say they are in emt school and can't wait to be heros annoy me. you're not gonna be a hero, you're gonna be on a basic rig, doing the geriatric shuffle, taking grandma home day after day after day. and after some hard work maybe you'll get to work on an als truck, depending on what area you're in. and then you just get to drive and clean up the mess the medic makes...oh and compressions too, lots of compressions, and you get to be an IV pole

  • and to those geriatric patients who may otherwise not be able to get to the hospital for care, you are the one who is willing to be there for them. you never know when or where the situation may arise when the iv pole will step up and save a life. just bc you went to school a bit longer than a basic, you shouldnt look down on these people who, as you said, will be cleaning up your messes. in the same fashion, doctors are probably annoyed by medics who think they are special for starting an iv...

  • @MapleLeafMedic

you have some nerve saying that those in EMT school will never be a hero to someone..such ignorance..you can be a hero in so many different ways..EMT's see ppl during their worst times and simply reaching out a caring hand in time of need is enough to be someones hero

  • @MapleLeafMedic

so basics are essentially heroes for putting up with a lot of shit, for shitty pay... god bless the EMT-Bs

  • God Bless you guys. I am going to school to be an EMT. i cannot wait to serve the people who need me.

  • I'm now done after 30 years on the job and about 33,000 calls, most were code 3 emerg out of my station. I don't miss it most days until late at night i hear a unit going past on a emerg run. Then i wish i was back in. Most of all i miss the guys at my station.

  • I love being E.M.T.

  • @projectsuicide88 I also love the job, its what I was born to do, it's too bad I wasted so of my life figuring that out.

  • @projectsuicide88 whats a emt? im thinking of become a ambulence officer...know how i do that?

  • @projectsuicide88 cant wait to be one :P

  • i just began in the ems academy here in san antonio texas and let me say that i cannot WAIT to become a certified HERO cuz in essence thats what EMT's are...heroes. i cant wait till i become an emt. it must be an awesome feeling to save a life

  • Sadly, you will lose more than save...sorry...just keep your ego in check and you'll do alright.

  • Man Id hate to be your partner if thats your attitude. Sounds like burn-out. Time to drive a desk.

  • Ahhh...spoken like a true newby...that's OK, you'll learn...I'm not burnt out at all, and my partner and I are still having a blast...good luck in your endeavors...hope your lessons in this job are kind...

  • mate that is so true, you see more shit than actual serious jobs, I know that the paramedics in australia get called to all sorts of shit and now and then a decent job, Its not burn out but you get sick of running to someone with dandriff or head lice or what ever other pathetic jobs going. They do a fantastic job when they need to turn it on, same as any emergency worker.

  • @chargin48 so true dude! hey i have a quick question im hoping you could maybe answer for me. my girlfriend is a nurse and she desperately wants to work in australia, and of course wants me to follow her... do you know anything about a canadian EMT's training being transferrable into Australian EMS?

  • @hugefanofhoney Im not sure, im on holiday for a week now, ill find out what i can for you, i actually work as a ed nurse but talk to the ambos bit, it works differently here, ambos are ambos and firemen are firemen.

  • @chargin48 yeah thats what i figured. but contrary to popular belief very few stations in alberta, canada are duel service (fire+ems) im strictly ems and have no fire training. if you could find out for me though that would be greatly appreciated!

  • @hugefanofhoney no problem mate give me a week or so and ill get back to ta. The ambos here are good, good bunch of girls and boys. Unfortunately sometimes they get treated like shit by some drs and nurses who think they are better, but we all get crap jobs. Id love to see them go out on the road and see what paramedics do and watch them do outside their comfort zone with just their partners, not in hospital with 10 trained staff backing them up should it go to shit

  • @chargin48 hey for a matter of fact the paramedics in australia get called to many serious events a day in the small area i live in its one or 2 car accidents, heart attacks, stuff from the nursing homes, street fights, drunks, and shit happening at the high school, our high school gets so many fights a day its not funny, weve had 2 spinals in the last year here and 5 cracked skulls and alot of other shit so just cuz ur not here doesnt mean u can shit on aussie EMT's

  • @musicfreak556 Are you for real mate, did you not read my postings, For a start Im an emergency nurse in NSW AUSTRALIA!!!! at a regional trauma centre, secondly what i was saying,if you read my postings properly, I said they do a fantastic job, however they do a lot off shit jobs too, They somethimes get crap on them from medical staff but that same staff are not working out on the streets, so get your facts straight son before you comment. As far as nursing homes go, well i wont comment

  • @chargin48 ok sorry mate i guess i missed a couple of ur comments i didnt realise u were from australia urself, i am just sick of like amercans and stuff shitting on australian emergency services :)

  • @musicfreak556 Yeah no worries mate, i figured, but was not sure. So was tryin to be a prick but not to hard just in case. I know what you mean, they have the hollier than thou attitude, actually the bloke i wa talkin to is from canada and wants to come here, so good on him. And good on you for sticking up for aussie shit too by the way

  • @FrozenEMT it's not burn-out, it's the truth... whether you like it or not

  • its not to often you actually " save a life" there is the odd code that comes back. but you wannabe students should prepare for reality. and the reality is most people you find dead, stay dead...

  • Not only just that but there are a lot of bull shit jobs to, a hell of a lot of bull shit jobs, and t/f from hospital to hospital and nursing homes

  • @chargin48 awesome! thanks for the time + effort! and the support lol, and your absolutely right sometimes we all get shit on, but thats life i suppose.

  • amazing video! i love the songs you chose...it is true as EMS we get paid nothing...are expected a lot from and only get a thank you sometimes...but i wouldn't want to do anything else in the world

  • Thank you for the vid. I love the second song. We do get paid crap and not a lot of thanks but I will die doing it...P-1627X St. Louis City Fire.

  • ALS ( advanced life support) are the people who EMT-B (emergency medical tech) call if the patient is in a life threatening position.

ALS can apply advanced ventilation and they can give more medication and are trained to do a lot more than an EMT-b =)

  • I am glad that you made this video they really can help. Like one time I had to ride in an ambulence and I wasnt dying or anything but he kept me calm through the whole thing

  • Great video It s great to see people post videos like this also good luck to everyone taking their EMT classes

  • what exactly is that?

  • As a paramedic, I appreciate videos like this with all my heart. Thank you

  • I love you =) and thank you for your work :D. I can not wait to start my EMT-B . My first class starts tommorrow =D

  • They're Heroes

  • Beautiful

  • Very good days Jeff!

  • i really love this video!

  • i'm in college for this [=

  • I'm just starting my EMR (EMT-B) classes too.

  • venom and ipdoby... why are you guys playing whos better than who?being a paramedic or involved in EMS is a job you should be proud of no matter how long uve been working. paramedics see some terrible things. yes maybe not everyday but maybe when theres a major incident like 911 then they would see it often. they dont need praise but should recieve it. and i think its stupid u guys fighting over it. its just a nice tribute. it doesnt matter how long uve worked for you guys are in it together!!!

  • We all need to remember, whether EMT, A-EMT, Paramedic, Fire fighter, Police, Nurse, Doctor we are all brothers and sisters and are all in this for the same reason. To save lives. =) We need to love our family no matter what.

  • Amen to that :)

  • I cannot wait to become part of the family

Im going to join the Air Force as a paramedic for special forces. Hope I can live up to the expectations

  • Nice video. Thankds for sticking strictly E.M.S.. It is nice.

  • Whats the second song? I love it!

  • run by snow patrol

  • Thanks!

  • I do have an interesting life, its good enough for me. I am a firefighters/paramedic. I do my job go home and don't dwell on any of the calls I go on. I don't go looking for praise or pats on the back. I don't go around making videos to give the false perception that this is what a medic sees on a daily basis. So over dramatic

  • Venom where do you work? You say it is a busy city of 1.5 million close to the mexican border, and you don't get many calls like this? So tell me where do you work?

  • Great video. I love The Fray!

  • Nicely, done. I completed my NREMT-Paramedic program 1 month ago. I enjoy my career choice. It took a lot of dedication and training to get this far, but it was totally worth it. Thanks Again. EMT-Paramedic, Ohio

  • Paramedics make more up here in Canada, specifically Ontario. I think about 20 - 30 an hour for a PCP (primary care paramedic)

  • Awesome Video, Here to help the sick.

    Great job guys.

    Paramedic, Nova Scotia, Canada

  • Well i'm a texan! i'm not a paramedic but an EMT i'm almost at paramedic though...and i just wish to say your video is great :D

  • what is this song?

I'm going for Firefighting and Paramedic...good vid

  • For the other People:

    Welcome in our work!

    We Work For The Living!

    Greetings from Germany

  • It's so intense to see how lifer savers' spirit is the same all around the world. We paramedics love to put ourself to the test in the greatest challenges of all. Saving life. Greetings from Milan (Italy).

  • nice vid, cant wait to be apart of this, this is what drives me.

    A.E.M.T. Student Richards Bay

  • Very nice video..

  • Thank you very much!!!!!!!

From LIFEMED Ambulance Services Pretoria, South Africa

  • Wow...what a perfect video! So well put together with powerful pictures! Great depiction of the profession.

  • GREAT video, I wish someone would take a video of something like this for FDNY man, show people what we really go through and that we're not just "ambulance drivers"

    FDNY Medic :O)

  • Amen! I've never been to NY, but have worked with a former FDNY medic. You guys see a lot of tough shit (as do we where I live).

  • What part of NYC do you work in?

  • Awesome video, no one could possibly appreciate the thanks people around the world post on youtube more than me. Gives us a cause, thanks for posting. 9/10 on the accuracy, that about covers a day in the life of a paramedic. =D

  • Excellently done!!!! Thanks.

    EMT (M'sia)

  • Oops, my comment below was directed to Venom6913.

  • yeah they may take their job seriously, if you were a firefighter or EMT you would too cause you dont know what its like to go like that day by day

  • You don't appreciate how hard these people work, not just when they get called to major incidents like this, but 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!

And just think, hopefully it won't, but it could be you that gets into a situation like this one day. You wouldn't be saying that if it was down to the paramedics whether you survived or not would you?

  • Venom, you're right. 95% of the time we get runs like that, and sometimes we get shit and pissed on ourselves. If you're going to critique his video, maybe you should look at it from our point of view (assuming you aren't ems since you're so flippant about it). 95% of the time we're getting shit on (literally and figuratively). The other 5% we actually get a chance to do what we're here for....so don't we deserve to be proud of that 5%?

  • You can be proud of that 5%. I am to a point, since I have been a medic for 4 years and I run my share of calls on a large department that is dual role fire/ems. I also know that when I get off of work I don't brag to people what I saw or did on that shift and I don't look for praise or admiration. I go home enjoy my family and thats it, go back and do it again the next day. No mater what rig I get put on that day, the ladder, engine or box i do my best without looking for a pat on the back.

  • Its Called Burnt Out Unfortunatly.

  • Burn out or reality. 4 years as a medic and I know what really goes on, are you a buff . How much service do you have under your belt? Tell me how long you have been doing it and how many calls you run on a daily basis?

  • Both, 10 Years in a service of 78,000 people in the city 34,000 in the county 15-28 calls a day possibility of a least one stabbing or shooting every other day. A Major accident a week with 1 or more fatality's involved. Small children every race, every nationality. I've lost my share and saved as many. So Yea Burned out sure call it that. Call it whatever.

  • Sounds like the service I work for.

  • in a city of 78,000??? I guess that is considered big. There is always a possiblity of a stabbing or shooting every other day, there is that chance one would happen every day. Same thing with the accidents with a fatality. What kind of animals do you service where 78,000 can cause that much trouble?

I service a city of 1.5million and we see that and only a few hours aways from the boarder of mexico with drug trafficing, human smuggling as well as other crimes.

  • I don't appriciate their work, I am a medic, been one for 4 years now. i know what the job is and what it entails. I also know that most calls aren't major trauma's and they aren't these serious "life threatening" emergencies that you see on tv or think happen all the time. where do you work, how many calls do you run on a daily basis? Tell me your experience?

  • You're an idiot. Who do you think you are? Whether a paramedic is getting thrown up on or saving a child from a car crash, they're still heroes and they still deserve to be proud of what they do. And if you're ever seriously hurt someday, you'll be thanking God for EMS workers who "take their jobs too seriously."

  • Are you are paramedic?

You will be glad how seriously we take our jobs when you call 911 one day. We'll still be there for you, even though you are unappreciative and very obviously an angry person.

    - a paramedic in Northern Virginia

  • dude , think one day , when you get heart attack , who rescued you ?? who helped you ?? Who saved your life ??

you jus dun appreciate the services that we serve to the citizen

  • peoples in your city dont know how to drive or what?! do you live in USA to be better than everybody? ;)

  • nice one

  • just six? in the capital?

  • 99% of the time, the calls we get involved in are caused by idiots like you.

  • idiots like me? I am a medic, been one for 4 years and I know that most calls aren't serious car accidents and major trauma's. they are few and far between compared to all the others that we go on. Lighten up and don't act like you are gods gift to everyone else. I work at a busty station for a busy department, what are you a volunteer somewhere are a fire buff? If you are happy with your work why get offended at a small comment you self indulgent prick.

  • Yes, idiots like you. I've been a paramedic for 10 years with a very busy urban service and also volunteer in another suburban rescue squad. You tell me to lighten up? Stop bragging like you're a seasoned veteran when you really haven't been in that long.

  • 10 years, you are one salty dog. Busy urban service??? Guess its not that busy if they haven't felt the need to hire full time people. Haven't been on that long???? Been a firefighter/EMT for 12 years, medic for 4, RRT/TRT/Haz-Mat for 6? Trust me, I have seen my share. What is the population you service? Assuming you will tell the truth.

  • Did you fail to read the part where I said "I've been a paramedic for 10 years with a very busy urban service and also volunteer in another suburban rescue squad."? Understand the English that I typed and do the math. I work full-time for one service and volunteer with a separate service. The area population approaches 1.5 million during the work week. Oh, the service that I volunteer for does EMS assist (for the county ALS service), rescue, and USAR.

  • lol rescue rick

  • Nicely done. Shows the variety of calls a Paramedic can handle on a daily basis. At one time or another we have all been on these types of calls or will be someday. Just goes to show the skill and training Paramedics have. Thanks

  • Excellent :)

I recognise myself in a couple of these pics..

The photos are all from Durban - South Africa

    Nice song also..

  • paramedics and people who care are wonderful people. It is a shame that people take life for granted and love to race their cars. You should see the drivers in Australia.

That is why I don't mind paying taxes in Australia because I know that it supports the welfare system for people who don't have enough money to pay for health care out of their own pocket.

    good work!

  • THIS is a typical day in your town?

holy shit where u live iraq?

    nice song though

  • Looks like a typical day in my town too....a few MVA's, a few nursing home runs, a few miscellaneous....just like any day in the city

  • well done

  • Crikey!! If that is a day, I'm bloody glad I don't work in your city...

    Nice picture set

  • good job!

  • whats the name of that song sir?
