@TheArthur899 In terms of banking and alternative energy, it already is! It's already the 18th largest city in the country and, the city is on track to have over a million people by itself by 2030 or so.
I'm from NYC...I've been to charlotte..when your their it's fast paste, busy an mostly always awake..an a shit lot cheaper than NYC maybe I should move...
@Newyorkcityfit haha yes, it is much, much cheaper than NY! I believe I read a statistic somewhere that said 1 out of every 4 people in Charlotte is from somewhere else. Most of them are coming from NY and other points north anyway, so I know you'd feel right at some (I'm a partial transplant myself).
@PirataDeBoriquen Charlotte is *definitely* a great place to start a family. It is consistently rated as one of the best places to do so by magazines and research institutes. Also, Raleigh is an exceptional family city as well.
A million more thumbs up's for nathanglennmitchem!!!! Hell ya, the Queen City is where I want to die. Although, I was born and raised in California, but who cares, I found a MUCH better city and I love it more than anything.
@MsAquarian81 I've been to LA before, and I liked the feel of the area. However, I love Charlotte a lot more for many reasons that I won't bore you with haha. It's definitely one of America's great cities!
@AashaBiancaB I've read how many Atlanta residents are looking to relocate to cities such as Charlotte. It's kind of funny, because Atlanta was once THE place to move to 20 or so years ago.
@mjdubord Thanks! The song I used is "I Will Be Here (Wolfgang Gartner Remix)" by Tiesto. For future reference, the song info. is listed at the end of the video. :-)
@BikerMama123 hah this type of video would not have been possible if I had uploaded it in real time. It would've been *too* slow and boring (and also 20+ minutes), trust me. ;-)
@BikerMama123 hah this type of video would not have been possible if I had uploaded it in real time. It would've been too slow and boring (and also 20+ minutes), trust me. ;-)
@cam100595 While Atlanta has a smaller city population, it's metro population is 3x Charlotte's. Atlanta's city population cannot match Charlotte's growth rate, because the city cannot legally annex like it once was able to. On the other hand, Charlotte gobbles up land very quickly. It is one of the largest cities in the country in terms of land area.
I love Charlotte! But I don't think I've ever been too far uptown though. I could definitely live there (once I learned my way around b/c Charlotte is fairly large to me). I felt like I was riding in the car with you lol. Great vid!
I live in Charlotte and was born here. There was a time when the best thing about Charlotte was the weather, and its awsome tree line. The fact that it is beautifully manicured attracted big business and quiet wealth. I think this city will be one that will be leading the county for years to come.
I live in NYC but I've never been to Charlotte. Guessing from NYC which has 8 million people and Charlotte has about 2 million. I had a friend who drove thru Charlotte on his way to Atlanta, GA and he was telling me how much I would like Charlotte. I was surprised he boasted about Charlotte as he is from NYC too. But I guess it's worth checking out. I'd luv to go hang out and relax in Charlotte.
@realtv01 haha fortunately, there aren't any red light cameras in Charlotte. Actually, I don't think there are any in NC. Greensboro used to have some, but I believe they took them down.
@Hutch4ever1 haha well, I admitted my flaws in this video. I'm an alert and experienced driver, but I just so happened to pass through the lights as they were turning red. Should I have stopped at Trade and Tryon? Yes, that was my mistake. I thank you for watching though. :-)
@Astoria1287 Thanks! I think Downtown started being referred to as Uptown in the late 80s or early 90s when city leaders were trying to bring people back downtown and rebrand it.
i love charlotte, nc, it's a great place to live. and the CMPD are the most proffesional police officers i've ever seen, they don't sweat the small stuff, but if you want to get serious with them, stand by.
I don't think anyone thought that North Carolina is a Republican bastion. There are far more Democrats in NC than Republicans. There were a lot of "Jessiecrats." Republicans just won control of both houses of the legislature for I believe the first time since reconstruction. The governor is a Democrat, Democrats are a majority in the congressional delegation, and Charlotte will host the 2012 DNC. My educated guess however is that Obama will not win North Carolina again.
@JohnRhysMusician People in areas such as New York and LA think NC is still backwards and racist. Granted, many of them have never ventured out of their bubble, but that is unfortunately the very prevalent notion that I've come across countless times. Assuming that you are one too, I'm an NC resident as well and think Obama has a small shot at winning the state in 2012. If the unemployment rate goes down and he details every positive thing he's done in office in his reelection, then he may do it
@CosmoPhotography I guess I sort of understand what you are saying because I am from Chicago and everyone thinks Illinois is totally Democratic, but our congressional delegation is majority Republican. Blago was our first Dem governor in 30 years, and from the times of Abraham Lincoln through George HW Bush we only voted for a Dem a handful of times. The reason I say NC probably wont vote to reelect him is because he only barely won it in 2008. Clinton didn't win Colorado in 1996 but did in 92.
You did an awesome job on this video.......it reminds me of Freewayjims videos. I like his stuff. I live in uptown charlotte in the 4th ward.... it was really cool to see my area in this video. I think you should also tour Ballantyne area of charlotte. Its a pretty cool place to video, maybe during the day. It was a great video and cant wait to see more of your work on my great city. I also loved the soundtrack on this video. I downloaded the song after I heard it on here... LOL
@sunshineunc Thank you! While I've learned a lot from Freewayjim, he's definitely the ultimate master when it comes to these kinds of videos. I actually live in Winston-Salem and travel to Charlotte at least once a month. I have an upcoming tour of Myers Park, SouthEnd, and Elizabeth that I plan on releasing this weekend. When I go back I plan on filming the upscale areas such as South Park and Ballantyne. Thank you again for watching! :-)
@sweetbabysophie Wait, UC has nightlife beyond UNCC parties? haha But, I do have a tour of SouthEnd, Elizabeth, Dilworth, and part of Myers Park coming up. I plan to go back soon and film NoDa.
@TheFatCigar Thank you! If you haven't been to Charlotte before, it's definitely worth a visit. I'm not sure if it's listed anywhere else on here, but the song I used for the intro is "The Anthem" by Filo & Peri. :-)
Great Video of driving downtown at nights and the illumination of all the city street lights and buildings looks lively. I do miss this living in Charlotte. It has a great progressive feel and modern style.
@thinkdeepr I wish you the best on your move and future endeavors. Charlotte is an awesome place to live! I'm glad you enjoyed and thank you for watching!
OMG! This makes me somewhat miss Charlotte, in which it's the city I was born and raised in. I didn't know it had grown exponentially in such a little time. I left Charlotte in 2004 and moved to Atlanta, GA. IT LOOKS VERY MUCH LIVELY like you said. I'm going to have to visit my hometown once again.
Thank you for posting this. It sure brought back memroies. I've been in Charlotte a lot since my grandparents lived there. We will usually visit for Thanksgiving or Passover. I've been going to Charlotte for a long period of time, since 1970 when my grandparents moved there. I've seen the city grow too. It's been amazing. I remember looking at the Charlotte skyline before the Nations Bank Building was around. The old one that is!
@LolaCrazy222 I agree charlotte is the qween city of nc and has the most spectacular view in nc to bad they shut down eastland mall wekipeadia says its sopose to reopin in late2011
@cmc1echris If you don't like the video, I don't have a problem with that. However, I make these videos as a hobby and share them with people who want to learn more about an area. To call it "gay" is kind of insulting since I put a lot of time, effort, and money into this.
@JordanBow100 awww no u got it all wrong, charlotte is full of all the faggots. You do know that Charlotte is the San Diego of the east right? Get over yourself, Charlotte is and will always be a wannabe city/metropolis and once all the banks go under it will be nothing more than a redneck museum with empty buildings and a school that has the lowest graduation rate in the US. Get over yourself dude and look at the facts.
@cmc1echris Dude, chill. First of all, if any city could be classified as the "San Diego (don't you mean San Francisco?) of the East" it would be Atlanta, New York, and Miami (in that order). Charlotte has made excellent strides in the last few decades to improve its image in the world by building a light rail line that has caused billions of dollars in urban redevelopment, attracting international energy companies, and diversifying its financial services industry beyond BOA and Wellschovia.
@cmc1echris If you don't like Charlotte, that's fine. But, don't take your hatred out on my video and others. You can express your displeasure for the city by posting constructive comments instead of posting one liners such as "Gay-est. Video. Ever." If Charlotte is so bad, pack your bags and move somewhere else.
@AKim1217 Yes! I've already planned to do SouthPark next time I'm in the Charlotte area (likely on Black Friday so that video should be *very* interesting). I'm also looking at filming NoDa, Elizabeth, and Dilworth as well.
@dhcave haha don't worry about it! :-) Not many people in the US have heard of Charlotte and often confuse it with Charlottesville, VA or Charleston, SC. I've actually talked to some people before who thought it was IN South Carolina... I plan to make a few more videos on Charlotte's inner-ring neighborhoods so stay tuned!
@CosmoPhotography It's hard to imagine that people mix up Charlotte and Charleston. (The spelling is a little bit similiar though. :P) And I guess making some nice and informative videos like this one would help people know the city better.
But I thought everyone watches NBA knows the city.....
@autopreneur Another night video of other districts in Charlotte and Downtown Raleigh at night on the horizon soon depending when I get back to those two cities. Richmond and DC (not southern, I know haha) will be in December. I want to do some more videos of Atlanta but I'm not sure when I'll be down there again.
Great video, thanks a bunch! :) Too bad we couldn't see more of the Vue and the part where Catalyst was built.
On which day did you shot it? Some places of uptown arepacked with people! Last time I visited Charlotte downtown was dead some nights, and it was only two or three years ago. Quite impressive!
Epicenter and Duke Tower are really adding some colors to the night, your vid actually made me like Duke Tower! (I have to admit I wasn't impressed by the first renderings of that tower, haha!).
@0DR0 Yeah, I agree with you. I wish the VUE was more lit up and I had wanted to showcase Catalyst and the Ally building in this but decided to focus mainly on Trade, Tryon, and College. I shot this on Friday, September 3, 2010 between around 11:30 PM - 12:00 AM. Me, too! I was kind of wary of the tower at first since I thought it may not blend in with its surroundings but I love it now! It's actually one of my favorite skyscrapers now. Thanks for watching!
@McBearPEI Ehh the first one was my fault completely. I have limited HD recording time on my camera (Canon 7D) and only 10GB worth of memory cards on me. I didn't want to sit there at the light and waste valuable recording time. I, also, haven't known CLT traffic lights to be that quick. The second time was because I couldn't see over the CATS bus and assumed that if he was going as well as the other drivers around me then the coast was clear.
@aswchris haha and this is exactly why I chose the name "cosmo" for my company. I'm all about cities and everything urban related. Don't get me wrong though, I love the countryside, too. :-)
@GeoffJennyOliver I filmed this at about 12 AM, too. If I filmed this 15 or so years ago, none of those people would be on the street. Uptown was strictly a 9-5 workplace and has made an amazing comeback in the last decade.
I have to say, this is an excellent video. There's a ton of color to Uptown Charlotte, from what I could see. After watching this video, I can say, without hesitation, that it's a much more pleasant downtown area vs. Los Angeles! Are you going to be filming any street tours of Charlotte's liveliest districts, away from Uptown? I'd love to see such a video in the future.
@FreewayBrent Thank you, bro! Funny you should say that as Uptown in the last few years was highly criticized for being too sterile and homogeneous. All of the LED's and neon you saw in the video has literally been put up in the last two years. I liked downtown LA from an architectural standpoint, but it was dead. I'll be down there again in about three weeks and may just do a night tour of the funky, eclectic neighborhoods like Elizabeth/Dilworth and NoDA.
@Freewayjim I got a lot of my inspiration for this video from you. I borrowed your idea of speeding up the traffic at the traffic lights. I really like how you've done that in past videos! I am absolutely in love with the new Duke Energy Center shown in the beginning of the video. It's really cool that the LED's at the top and along the building light up and flash in Panther blue when they score. No more night games in Charlotte for the Panthers though this season to show that in a video :-/
@CosmoPhotography Thanks, you used that technique well, good on you! yeah that Duke Energy center looks awesome, I also like the NASCAR HOF with the colored neon streaks.

Love the video, Charlotte looks like an amazing city.
Can you tell me the name of the tunes you've used in this clip? The one at the very beginning of the video as well as the main track?
Cheers.
TheFatCigar 1 year ago
@TheFatCigar Thank you! If you haven't been to Charlotte before, it's definitely worth a visit. I'm not sure if it's listed anywhere else on here, but the song I used for the intro is "The Anthem" by Filo & Peri. :-)

Great Video of driving downtown at nights and the illumination of all the city street lights and buildings looks lively. I do miss this living in Charlotte. It has a great progressive feel and modern style.
Ahhapictures 1 year ago 5
@Ahhapictures Charlotte's street level activity has certainly increased in the last couple of decades. It's an exciting place to be for sure!

I'll be moving here this spring, making a fresh start and following my dreams. This video is inspiring for what the next year might hold for me.

@supanovaMECCA It is *definitely* worth a visit! Make sure to check it out on a Friday or Saturday night. Thank you for watching!

chad987100 1 year ago
Thank you for posting this. It sure brought back memroies. I've been in Charlotte a lot since my grandparents lived there. We will usually visit for Thanksgiving or Passover. I've been going to Charlotte for a long period of time, since 1970 when my grandparents moved there. I've seen the city grow too. It's been amazing. I remember looking at the Charlotte skyline before the Nations Bank Building was around. The old one that is!

Gay-est. Video. Ever.
Charlotte sucks.
cmc1echris 1 year ago
@cmc1echris If you don't like the video, I don't have a problem with that. However, I make these videos as a hobby and share them with people who want to learn more about an area. To call it "gay" is kind of insulting since I put a lot of time, effort, and money into this.

@cmc1echris
If You Dont Like It Then WHY WOULD YOU CLICK ON IT. People Stupid These Days Dont Talk About My City Your A Freakin Faggot Point Blank Period.......
JordanBow100 6 months ago
@JordanBow100 awww no u got it all wrong, charlotte is full of all the faggots. You do know that Charlotte is the San Diego of the east right? Get over yourself, Charlotte is and will always be a wannabe city/metropolis and once all the banks go under it will be nothing more than a redneck museum with empty buildings and a school that has the lowest graduation rate in the US. Get over yourself dude and look at the facts.
cmc1echris 6 months ago
@cmc1echris Dude, chill. First of all, if any city could be classified as the "San Diego (don't you mean San Francisco?) of the East" it would be Atlanta, New York, and Miami (in that order). Charlotte has made excellent strides in the last few decades to improve its image in the world by building a light rail line that has caused billions of dollars in urban redevelopment, attracting international energy companies, and diversifying its financial services industry beyond BOA and Wellschovia.
CosmoPhotography 6 months ago
@cmc1echris If you don't like Charlotte, that's fine. But, don't take your hatred out on my video and others. You can express your displeasure for the city by posting constructive comments instead of posting one liners such as "Gay-est. Video. Ever." If Charlotte is so bad, pack your bags and move somewhere else.

Nice work ! Perhaps a video of Southpark area. If Southpark, it's better to film it during daylight. Streetscapes there is great...
AKim1217 1 year ago
@AKim1217 Yes! I've already planned to do SouthPark next time I'm in the Charlotte area (likely on Black Friday so that video should be *very* interesting). I'm also looking at filming NoDa, Elizabeth, and Dilworth as well.

Thank you for the tour ! Before watching this, the only thing I knew about Charlotte is the Bobcats. (I'm sorry....)
dhcave 1 year ago
@dhcave haha don't worry about it! :-) Not many people in the US have heard of Charlotte and often confuse it with Charlottesville, VA or Charleston, SC. I've actually talked to some people before who thought it was IN South Carolina... I plan to make a few more videos on Charlotte's inner-ring neighborhoods so stay tuned!
CosmoPhotography 1 year ago
@CosmoPhotography It's hard to imagine that people mix up Charlotte and Charleston. (The spelling is a little bit similiar though. :P) And I guess making some nice and informative videos like this one would help people know the city better.
But I thought everyone watches NBA knows the city.....

any other southern cities u plan on filming?
autopreneur 1 year ago

0DR0 1 year ago
@0DR0 Yeah, I agree with you. I wish the VUE was more lit up and I had wanted to showcase Catalyst and the Ally building in this but decided to focus mainly on Trade, Tryon, and College. I shot this on Friday, September 3, 2010 between around 11:30 PM - 12:00 AM. Me, too! I was kind of wary of the tower at first since I thought it may not blend in with its surroundings but I love it now! It's actually one of my favorite skyscrapers now. Thanks for watching!

Dudepussy 1 year ago
@Dudepussy Can you wait till December? :D That's when I plan on being in the DC/NoVA area next.
CosmoPhotography 1 year ago
@McBearPEI Ehh the first one was my fault completely. I have limited HD recording time on my camera (Canon 7D) and only 10GB worth of memory cards on me. I didn't want to sit there at the light and waste valuable recording time. I, also, haven't known CLT traffic lights to be that quick. The second time was because I couldn't see over the CATS bus and assumed that if he was going as well as the other drivers around me then the coast was clear.

,,,really like night time vids of US cities - lots of lights, people out and about, things happening, great stuff...
GeoffJennyOliver 1 year ago
@GeoffJennyOliver I filmed this at about 12 AM, too. If I filmed this 15 or so years ago, none of those people would be on the street. Uptown was strictly a 9-5 workplace and has made an amazing comeback in the last decade.
CosmoPhotography 1 year ago
I have to say, this is an excellent video. There's a ton of color to Uptown Charlotte, from what I could see. After watching this video, I can say, without hesitation, that it's a much more pleasant downtown area vs. Los Angeles! Are you going to be filming any street tours of Charlotte's liveliest districts, away from Uptown? I'd love to see such a video in the future.
FreewayBrent 1 year ago
@FreewayBrent Thank you, bro! Funny you should say that as Uptown in the last few years was highly criticized for being too sterile and homogeneous. All of the LED's and neon you saw in the video has literally been put up in the last two years. I liked downtown LA from an architectural standpoint, but it was dead. I'll be down there again in about three weeks and may just do a night tour of the funky, eclectic neighborhoods like Elizabeth/Dilworth and NoDA.

CosmoPhotography 1 year ago
Excellent video, Downtown/Uptown Charlotte is coming along nicely from an architectural standpoint. Nice touch with the "Queen City" signs.
Freewayjim 1 year ago
@Freewayjim I got a lot of my inspiration for this video from you. I borrowed your idea of speeding up the traffic at the traffic lights. I really like how you've done that in past videos! I am absolutely in love with the new Duke Energy Center shown in the beginning of the video. It's really cool that the LED's at the top and along the building light up and flash in Panther blue when they score. No more night games in Charlotte for the Panthers though this season to show that in a video :-/
CosmoPhotography 1 year ago
@CosmoPhotography Thanks, you used that technique well, good on you! yeah that Duke Energy center looks awesome, I also like the NASCAR HOF with the colored neon streaks.
Freewayjim 1 year ago
Nice video! This was certainly a busy night in Uptown CLT.

3:26 - It's okay. It happens. Just don't do it again (lol).
"The Cable Box" (lol)
4:38 - I like those checkered flag ped xings. Would've been nice to have had the NASCAR H.O.F. next to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. :-(
I'm not a big -- or any kind of -- NASCAR fan. :-D
7:24 - Close, but your front tires were in front of the stop line. I've had that happen, because of larger vehicles.
Nice vid, Evan.
