  • Thanks for this, my local bike shop are saying this will cost around £15 ($20) to do this. I have an old mountain bike with a quill stem, I guess the procedure is the same though?

  • Nothing like an old bike to learn on.

  • do i need a headset press if im just greasing or putting new bearings in???

  • nope, but you might find sealed bearings that are not greaseable in there depending on the bike.

  • Not really because your fork tube is cut for that frame and stem.

  • the lower bit is loose on my bike...how do i tighten that bit

  • Soory, I'm not sure what a bit is! I would take it to a shop and ask them! Thanks though!

  • lol went shop cost me bloody £25 for a new thread n bolt for headset

  • tnx

  • First make sure your bearings are clean, use a a bearing cleaner like some thing from Pedros I think it's called orange peel or somthing but you don't want to use any thing that will break down the grease like WD40 that would be bad. Even if you use warm soapy water and then dry the bearings right away so they don't rust. Then you can rub it in to be sure it's all aroung inside of the housing. and put a thin layer on the race. Hope this helped Ya.
