  • This has gotta be the coolest thing ever. How much can i get one for?

  • @Joshoman66 about 1500 euro

  • Yes you need that 24 bit or more for actually producing most efficiently all the multiple channels and effects into your final stereo 16bit CD. The degradation of the source material in the mix among others is otherwise simply too large or insufficiant for more complex recordings.

  • Reason 6 runs shit now and hardware has gone the way of the crack head.

  • omg I want, the thing is sooooo sexy

  • I want to see akai samplers with a 12 bit option. I love my MPC60 and wont be parting with it any time soon.

  • mpc= rap

  • @gadz1

    You are a complete retard!

Like a fool you said "the human ear cant hear better than 16 bit anyway".

Then please explain why every DAW & sequencer operates at 24 to 64 bit float?

Who are you to decide what bit rate professionals use?

Not everybody wants their drums to sound like grimey, early 90's hip-hop you moron.

The MPC 5000 CANNOT play 24 bit files, it dithers them to 16 bit before playback.

Stop spreading misinformation, you know nothing about music production.

  • I'm selling a brand new MPC500 for £500 but you need to come and collect it so I can prove it's brand new.

I aint pissing about with no delivery. If you don't like you don't take.

  • I can do the same think with reason and my mpd32 , just as fast...

  • all AKAI needs to do is make an mpc2000xl with more memory and a better screen and the number/rec play dub buttons should be more like a pay phone, the back needs the option of aux jacks as well as phone jacks without having to buy 8 outs, it needs a usb hub for memory sticks instead of flash cards and floppy ect, it would be phat if it was totally portable with a recharge battery, i think akai needs to work around us, not us work around them, they would never have a bad review again

  • this eats my 500

  • the new mpcs are all 16...

  • NICE VIBE

  • what does it matter that its 16 or 24 bit when it's gonna have the shit compressed out of it anyway!????

  • 24 Bit, 16Bit...ha, if its 8 Bit, it dont matter. Forget about whats obsolete or not! The Best HipHop was made with the SP1200, MPC 3000/2000/XL, ..check out Dibiase from Cali, or Logikbomb from DC, Oddissee from DC, these guys are making TRUE HIPHOP and donot consern themselfs with old or new just MAKE REAL HipHop, DnB whatever! Dibiase makes his live tracks with a BOSS SP 303 and his Beats will ish on these cracker kack box "producers" making the mainstream stuff. ~ OSR!

  • sounds like BIG - Juicy

  • hot

  • That guy is a fucking beast!!!!!....regular producers dont get to think you can do that as fast because you cant

  • i want this so bad....when i do im taking over hahahahahahah

  • @tokyodreamkloudtunez dont buy it, the product is full of faults. Im once again trying to arrnage to get this pile of shit fixed by Akai.

  • @FuturedaveyP whats wrong with it?

  • @whotookmypiewtf The first one had a problem with the, forgotton what its called, the anolgue sound something...ah, its late. Basically the sound stopped coming out of it. Hardware had to be replaced (after a few hours use- although im suspicious that it had been used before i got it due to the menu layouts, and no tutorial file!). The replacement machine broke after using the effects. I added a few effects to test out to sounds, a large buzz was generated that couldnt be stopped and...

  • @FuturedaveyP after rebooting a message came up saying 'effects engine failed to load'. Does it every time and now now sound is generated by the unit. If it did what its suppossed to then its a wicked bit of kit. Problem is, since september, when i bought it, ive had next to no use out of it. Well disappointing. Im told its built like a tank. Yeah, it is, its heavy and solid, but what good is that when it breaks through normal careful use?! im preying i get a new machine like i originally bought

  • check out the HACKS akai gets to do their demos. get someone dope.

  • @kidwithoutradio this guy sounds he never touched hardware until this day

  • Check 4 , Beats by Wallace Green

  • Always know this! its not in what kitchen you cook in, but the chef that cooks in that kitchen?!?!?!?!

  • the 30 min. on the computer is usualy loading the samples into the program and recording ect. it does take a little more time... but not much.

Hes usin presets or somthing soooo...

    wow. not much diffrence.

  • looks great :D i have 2000xl doesn't matter what you use its how u use it if you got heart you've got great music!

  • i would head down to my local guitar center and purchase a 5000 today if they released the source code to JJ and they made a JJOS for the 5000.. but it wont happen so 2500 with JJOS is what im sticking with.. JJ might be the only team that can save the 5000, they single handedly saved the 1000 from extinction and they can do the same for the 5.. nukai would sell more units and everyone would be happy. nukai and the customers and JJ because they could charge a few hundred for a password..

  • nice big juicy base line lol

  • Akai really let producers down by making the 5000 with only 44.1k/16 bit audio.

Especially when the 4000 has 24 bit & was made 5 years earlier!

That would be like Sony making a Playstation 4 that only worked in 64 bit (would you buy it?!)

EVERY type of sequencing software now works in 32 bit & 24 bit & I don't know ANY serous producer who still sequences in 16 bit in 2010 (obsolete technology).

    Make a MPC 5000XL with 24 bit !!

  • @ShynAwkward I agree with you to an extent though I wouldn't jump out and say none serious is using lower than 32 bit (hell look at dj premier ) but it was a huge let down with this. I waited so long for this to come out then when i finally got my hands on it, then on Native instruments maschine.... never thought I would leave my mpc but now I'm on maschine and much happier. could not believe the 5000 I mean really for the price they should have came much better.

  • @shamelads1289

I luv Pete Rock but he is not really a producer, he is more of a beat-maker/ arranger.

I haven't heard any Pete Rock songs on TV or radio in over 10 years...

It seems people on YouTube are always looking for something to disagree with without looking at things in context.

24 Bit recording is industry standard & has been for over 10 years

Anything less than 24 bit is limited in dynamic range

The SP1200 is very dated technology, ONLY capable of creating old-school 12 bit tone.

  • Pete rock uses an mpc now... and you dont often hear much Hip-Hop on the radio. But i know what you mean.

  • @pbee73

A 'producer' can complete a track by themselves (chord progression, vocal harmonies, live percussion, possibly some Live drums etc).

People who can do this like: Jam & Lewis, Teddy Riley, The Neptunes, Darkchild, RedOne, Ryan Leslie etc.

These cats can complete a project OUTSIDE OF HIP-HOP with or without samples because they have knowledge of music theory.

All of my favourite Pete Rock & CL smooth tracks are built on pre-existing songs (more arranging than creating from scratch).

  • @ShynAwkward

But over all it is still considered "producing" right? Even if one were to just lay out drum work, you would then say he/she "co-produced" the track. The title "producer" is exactly what it means, to produce something. In this case drums and music.

  • @ShynAwkward Actually some of the greatest producers of all time don't complete a track "by themselves." Their talent comes in knowing what a good record needs and how to accomplish it, which can include anything from calling in other instrumentalists, to telling a vocalist how to say certain things, to knowing how to work with engineers for things like mic placement, sound processing.....to arranging, to playing instruments if needbe, etc.

    Example: Quincy Jones.

  • @misterlestrade

That's a good point you made!....

But, also consider that the role of a "producer" has changed since Quincy's day.

There were no plugins or laptops then, so if you wanted drums, bass, or guitar, you HAD TO call in musicians & give them your arrangements with music notation.

'Most' producers no longer 'have to' do this in 2011 as all sounds are available on a VST, Motif or Fantom!

So the term "producer" must also be updated to reflect the required workload.

  • @glict

People, before you comment, please research 24 bit recording & why industry professionals use 24 bit recording, before dithering tracks to 16 bit. Google is free for everybody!

24 bit makes a very big difference when processing vocals, reverbs, various effects & offers the necessary headroom needed for modern mastering levels.

If u don't care to research these things, then please stop leaving ignorant comments.

24 bit matters a lot, even for 16 bit CD's.

    Ask ANY studio professional!

  • @1Electrosexual 24bit gives you 256 time better resolution that 16,777216 to 16bit 65,536

  • @1Electrosexual 24bit gives you 256 time better resolution that 16,777216 to 16bit 65,536

  • @ShynAwkward

AKAI´s last MPC is the 4000,than NUMARK took over...

So don´t blame AKAI if you don´t like the sound.

Still the MPC60 with only 12bit is the best sounding MPC ever...Roger Linn 1986.

  • @ShynAwkward dam the playstation is more that 64bit? I didn't know that shit

  • @ShynAwkward Blame that shortcoming (if that's what you want to name it) on the home studio owners who keep saying the sound must be dirty and gritty for it to be right. Some of them are such fanatics they think nothing is better than an MPC60 or MP3000. By their logic we might as well keep drving Model T Fords.

  • @iandavismusic

    No, actually, you are wrong!

Shynawkward is right! MPC'S are NOT mainly used for drums, they are also used for samples (Brass, musical phrases, & Piano riffs etc) Just check any mpc video on YouTube (20% drums 80% musical samples).

Lower bit rates are excellent for an old school effect, but what if we don't want everything to sound old school??

Ask ANY industry PROFESSIONAL (not basement amatures) & they will tell you, 24 bit is the way to go when you need modern dynamic range.

  • @1Electrosexual Good points but I don't think there is a right or wrong. Just a desired out come. I record at 24bit 88.2 but i add some low bit elements in my mix SOMETIMES. And "industry professional" advice varies on who and for what purpose. If low bit depth were not needed, then it would not exist. Also did you for get that 99.9% of sampled music is sampled from 16 bit 44.1 CDs. There is no loss of sonics. The best way to sample is not to. I use mics and real sources when ever i can.

  • @HitzvilleTV

    Schooling who exactly?

Your comment made sense on its own but not as a reply to the original point raised.

Let me spell it out for you; Professionals use 24 bit in the studio. NOT everybody makes hip-hop music, so NOT everybody wants retro, grimey tone on their MPC drum tracks & samples. Just because You & Kanye like 12/16 bit, that doesn't mean it's suitable for every genre. Understand?

The mpc 4000 gave people a choice of bitrate & was made in 2002!

    MPC 5000 = less options

  • @HitzvilleTV

I'm sorry dude but you can't speak for all "sample heads".

U sound ignorant when u used Kanye as an example of why we should all be using 16 bit.

If you know anything about modern mastering levels you would know that raising the gain on 16 bit files increases the noise floor. 24 bit eliminates this problem & gives you the CHOICE as to how clean or dirrty U wanna sound.

Most of the big boys in hip-hop will have at least one mpc 4000 for this very reason.. do some research

  • @ShynAwkward hip hop shoud sound gritty, i'am not saying akai got it right limiting the resolution capability, it shoud be capable to go up to 24 and down to 12 bits to be an all porpouse machine. also with a couple more midi outs it would be perfect to be the heart of any decent studio. maybe the next model.... i won't buy this one, stick to my 2500 for the moment.

  • @ShynAwkward thats because the 5000 is actually a 3500. they marketed it as 5000 just to boost it as the latest and most powerful of its category...

  • Comment removed

  • @ShynAwkward So what's so special about the 5000 then?

  • This beat is fire.

  • get the mpc 4000 its better then the 5000

  • effortless... thats why i bought it!! Good Job Andy!

  • i wish to hav one!!!!!!!!

  • If you any piece of equipment in n out you can do anything.

  • FAST ANDY ;=)

    TIGERJUNGE

  • 2 minutes ok. but with all the samples already loaded?

you can do that on a pc if the samples are already loaded...

  • clear soundz h

  • this mpc is 2000

  • legend

  • this MPC 5000 costs like $300 dnt they?

  • haha no.. .. .. more like $2000..

  • fuck mpc 4000 is old shit

  • i figured out how to record straight into pro tools with a s/pdif cable...

  • GOOD FOR YOU BUDDY

  • @rantarave Bitch ass FUCK!!

  • I've got an mbox2 and an MPC 5000. How do I get my beats into protools? Or fruity loops? HELP

  • I think you have to use a midi USB interface

  • FL Studio reads MIDI

  • Two outputs from the MPC to 2 ins, panning left and right. into the Mbox2's DI, or if you have a mixer, even better... 2 main/stereo outs to mixer's line input channels 1/2 panning applied, mixer's main/CR outs go straight to the Mbox2, no midi here...

  • it's called a midi cable.

  • Buy the 4000 - There is no muti program and sequence save function like the 4000. Why lose the best new feature in the akai family? The 4000 has got 96k/24bit - the 5000 comes only with 44.1k/16bit. Get the best quality for your sounds and take the MPC 4000!

  • @jeromelester8 what are the advantages of the mpc 5000?

  • @hereHehereHE While the MPC 4000 has more features, the MPC 5000 is a newer, leaner and more refined model. Both the MPC 4000 and the MPC 5000 have 64 MIDI output channels with 128 internal programs. The 4000 has more songs than the 5000 (128 to 20) and note storage capacity (300,000 to 100,000). Both machines have CD/RW drives to record music onto compact discs. The MPC 4000 comes with 272 MB of onboard memory, which can be expanded up to 512 MB.

  • @hereHehereHE The MPC 4000 has additional compatibility with non-Akai workstations, particularly those made by Roland and EMU.With 2000 euros regular price the MPC 5000 is not a good deal.

For 2000 euros one receives also a AKAI MPC1000, in addition an Yamaha AW1600 (Hp-recorder with digital mixer) and still a Waldorf Blofeld.

  • very nice demonstration. i love mpc`s

  • Forget what people be saying about the MPC5000 because just blaze dished it, don't get me wrong I am a big fan of just blaze, but im not a follower, I want me a MPC 5000 asap. This vid 'is what I needed to see.

  • I Love the MPC 5000 :D

  • smu(ud).... thats whas happenin...

  • Finally a beat machine demo tailored toward to hip hop heads

  • lol word.

  • Comment removed

  • very good explained, but if you want to create rare music, you need rare samples.

  • like rare rabbit hare!

  • The synth part of this video is insightful. I would have liked to have seen a lot more of this feature.

  • its definitely all about the sounds. Use crappy sounds getting a crappy beat. if you need any sounds holler at me. I have over 1800 titles and have 1 TB hard drives FULL of sample cd-dvds.

check them out at myspacecom/samplelibraries .

or email me at samplelibraries AT yahoo . com

  • still waiting for someone to demo some batshit insane ahpex acid on these things. these rap demos make me think you need a computer to do anything really complex

  • This video is hot! The work flow is so fast if you know what ur doing! U r the man!!!!

  • You hatez!!! This guy is the best on the net. Get a life and do or say something worth reading!

  • Andy mac sold me a numark alesis workstation for cheap, he gets off the lorry equipment cheap.

He's the man, cos he's the manager and he steals stock. But u have to meet him in bracknell

  • rather use a midi controller with faders off my pc. to each their own

  • u must have good vst's

  • this is a good demo!

  • AH yes, I guess in a polite way you were meaning the four eyed one

  • This demo was great right up until the point that he started messing with the synth.

  • bassline SUCKS!!!!!!

  • sounded like a song called Juicy Fruit

  • I was watching and saying the same damn thing! LMAO! I was like, "juuuuuicy.......juicy fruit".......lmao!

  • you say it takes you half an hour on a comp.. well if you consider all the preparation you need to do with the mpc i doest go exactly faster.. remember to record and or cut up samples and assign to pads etc.. all taking time too which isnt showed in this vid!

  • exactly

  • I've been a MPC user for years (3000). I also love software (Ableton Live). What he did in this video can be done easily in Live, but for what it's worth, the MPC's were always known for excellent workflow.

  • Great video demo Andy!

  • of course if you already have it mentally prepared for a demo, it seems quick

  • where was ANDY during NAMM 08

  • S#&t was ill!! You demo'd this well!! Madd props
