when this came out I thought his tone in this was crap but then a few years later I realized that playing with a lot of mid and hardly any gain like Kirk's tone here, is one of the hardest ways to play metal, but if you can pull it off, your sound will cut through everything else live. Everyone complaining probably uses a shitty line 6 with the gain cranked to 10 and has probably played none if not few live shows... Ever wondered why you can never hear the guitars on newer metal bands live?

@BKstrained Yeah I know what you mean. Although it is hard to find, but I like an amp that has a killer sound so I don't have to rely too heavily on pedals, not for effects but for tone. His skill isn't really a question his landmark sound with Metallica is quite good enough, and I wouldn't change it with Mustaine or any other guitarist, because the chemistry is just good for Metalica. The question is his innovation, I mean learning the solos in Metallica I don't have much to expect and sometimes I find myself wandering through the non sense of the scales that don't really make sense.

There would be names most people wouldnt even know. Names like Andres Segovia, a classical guitarist who died in 1987 who has been playing since the 1800s and influenced millions. Another would be Django Reinhardt, who did more with 2 fingers (2 were crippled) than most can with 4 on the fretboard.

But people usually ONLY point out technical ability. Like there are people who can paint/draw completely photorealistic paintings/drawings. That doesn't make it art. Which is why Jimi was the best without having the best technique. Because no matter what kind of music you like, you like Jimi or can at least appreciate his art.

Andre brought it into concert halls. Who knows how it would have impacted ALL genres of music had there not been an Andre Segovia to champion the instrument.

@Tha2ndWimp For the record, most of what you hear on the first metallica Album as solos go, Joe Satriani had a big part in it. Hammett was Satriani's last student and helped him come up with most of the solos you hear. He was asked why he quit teaching Hammett and he said it was because of his career began to take off. He was about to go on tour with Mick Jagger and was about to release Surfing with the Alien. But he did say he helped Hammett come up with his solos. Not very creative of Hammett.

If you check out basically any thrash band you will have people shredding just as good, if not better than him.
