  • Someone didn't watch GI Joe.

  • Check the microwave?

  • this has seriously stuck with me since I was like 6 and saw this. I forgot everything else about Punky Brewster, but "friend in the refrigerator" never left my memory. Say what you want about cheesy "very special" episodes of 80s shows, they certainly were memorable.

  • I would have been horrified if I had seen this on TV.

  • That music... I can't

  • Another traumatizing episode of Punky Brewster.

  • On the dvd, there's an alternate ending to this episode where he takes the fridge to the landfill and they put it in the grinding machine. It was pretty ahead of its time, this show.

  • Make that "By law, the doors must NOW be removed when they are junked."

  • It has nothing to do with air pressure. Refrigerators made before about 1958 (and iceboxes before that) have a mechanically latching handle that can only be opened from the outside to keep the gasket sealed air-tight. Over a period of several decades, hundreds of children in the US died in them from lack of air. Such refrigerators were banned, but old ones still can be found, and in 1975, an 11 year-old boy died in one. By law, the doors must not be removed when they are junked.

  • Comment removed

  • @dickcheney6 Mmm? No, this was a problem with older fridges. Talk to older generations and you'll find someone who knows someone or knows of some child who died getting caught in one. The problem is that the doors were very, very heavy: too heavy for small arms. When Punky Brewster came out, this was still a problem with older models, if not as bad as it had been a decade or two before. This is one of the reasons why some refrigerators (then and now) have locks on them.

  • @Celyia Well, I suppose that makes sense. That added to the fact that if the door is closed somewhat tight, compressing the seal more, it will squeeze some air out, creating a vacuum that makes it harder to open. My freezer does that, and it also has a key lock (which the original owners lost the key for, so we'll have to remove the door when it comes time to throw it out)

It is recommended that refrigerator doors be removed or locked shut when it is being taken out of service or disposed of.

  • @Celyia So true! Back in the 80s, "old" stuff was REALLY old. I remember I saw this episode on a big, wood-paneled RCA with dials that we had to get up and turn if we wanted to change the channel. Our fridge was a 70s lime green deal.. and Henry's fridge was way older from the looks of things.

  • Right there, from this day on, I love Punky Brewster.

  • She was in there a long time, the writers made a big mistake by not making Cherry a vegetable for future seasons.

  • @jchristsu ROTFLXD You need to STOP!!!! LOL

  • the anniversery is the worse punky episode i cant watch it its too sad

  • I miss the dramatic music this show brought into my life..

  • Aww

  • Allen is sooo funny i fell sorry for cherry

  • Allen left the show not long after that so stop your bitching.

  • They weren't doing CPR right...

  • The whole damn time they were doing CPR on her I was thinking, can't they at least put her in the house and not have her lying there in the snow? Lol seriously, that probably would have helped.

  • alan should put himself in the fridge at 5:49

  • Is that REALLY the music they played when they discovered Cherrie was in the fridge? Really????

  • OH THE DRAMA.

  • I wonder if Soleil Moon Frye, Cherie and Margeaux are friends in real life

  • @lrjtmntfan They are indeed

  • I still remember this one episode about 20 years later. It's the only one from the series which I clearly remember.

  • @PioneerGrrrl Me too. Scared the CRAP out of me when I was 5. I was drawing pictures of evil fridges and everything,

  • My sister and I used to watch this together all the time when we were kids. Fantastic show, great values. Both my sister and I now do foster care, and work in health care.

  • Cherie gets some of the blame, too, for hiding in the fridge. (tisk, tisk)

  • i remember watching this when i was little......the scariest shit i've ever seen

  • According to Marty Mcfly in Back To the Future II, when you perform CPR you have to punch the victim in the face REAL fast and REAL hard.

  • so would it be better to put the coat on the cold ground and lay her on it, or put her on the cold ground and lay the coat on her? HMMMM??????

  • This episode scared the hell out of me. Everytime it was on, I would hide behind the couch and close my ears during the CPR scene, it just really upset me

  • lol cherie how do u feel? IM HUNGRY lol XD

  • That episode have got a page on Facebook: "The Punky Brewster episode when Cherie got into a fridge" hahahahaha

  • lol, I remember being so distressed and upset when I saw this as a kid! There was also a CPR-centered episode of Fat Albert.

And yeah, I'm CPR certified now : )

  • A side note, that the guy who comes in to look at refrigerators while Henry is looking at refrigerators plays Jimmy John in the 3rd Season ep. called Punky's Porker. Real name is Jim Hampton.

  • OMG I have been searching for this forever!!! I remember this so vividly from when I was a kid, and had NO idea where it was from. I am SOOOO happy I found this, because a 7 year old girl like me circa 1996 can really learn something =)

  • This episode seriously my favorite! Nobody ever remembers it when I say something about it.... But it seems to be the most important one, I mean, you learn CPR and one very important lesson: DON'T HIDE IN REFRIDGERATORS.

  • @mctlm22 same here, I keep telling everyone of the infamous "Punky Brewster Fridge Episode" and no one believes it exists

  • lol this was sooooo intense!!! i was scared!! i didnt know what was going to happen!!! I was at the edge of my seat!!!! WHOA!!!!

  • Thanks for putting up part 2...

  • lol@yall gettin mad at henry for not knowing cpr..

  • im mad at the fact that they didnt look in the fridge sooner....it wasnt that many hiding spots ..those kids were dumbasses

  • Allan was such a tool.

  • they should have got her off that snow first.

  • Why does hit episode still make me tear up?

  • me too

  • Allen's misbehaving in class almost cost Cherie her life.

If Punky and Cherie, and Henry were not there, what would Allen have done?? He would not have been able to save her because he didn't pay attention in class.

He could of saved Cherie had he payed attention and not been sent to the principles.

  • I never liked that either. He knew and respected Mike as a teacher and friend yet he still misbehaved in class. This isn't the last time either. >:(

  • Allen's a great character as the whole gang is, but in such a rather serious ep., he should not have been in this ep. if he was going to behave how he did, or his character should have been written to act more maturly.

There are times to be a smart ass and be funny, and times not to be.

  • Absolutely right!! :) His actions in "The Gift" were a lot worse than this.

  • I know that ep. all to well!! Allen is downright viscous and cruel for making fun of Linda like that.

Mike and Punky's reaction are of pure hate and disgusted. Rightfully so.

Why didn't Mike send Allen to the principles for making fun of Linda??

Making fun of Linda was worse than his antics during Cherie Lifesaver..both are pretty out of line.

Allen can be pretty funny mostly, but some eps, like The Gift and Cherie Lifesaver, he is better left not being in the ep.

  • uh.. i think they had him misbehave to prove a point. If people dont pay attention when they are being taught something serious as cpr, there can be serious consequences .. theres a lesson in the way he acted..

  • @kafekahnela True. My problem is that it always had to be him, with this and with mentally handicapped Linda. He always behaved in Mike's class and respected him (from what I've seen) so this scene surprises me.

  • "If Punky and Cherie, and Henry were not there, what would Allen have done??"

Well if Cherie wasn't there how the hell can she pass out? douche

  • I never realized I made a mistake posting my comment...

My comment was supposed to say, "If Punky and Margo and Henry were not there, what would Allen have done I wonder??"

Henry didn't know CPR, and Allen didn't know CPR either because he was messing around during class.

Had Punky and Margo not known what to do, Cherie would have been dead.

  • Silly guy!

  • happy7117, Allen could have just called 911.

  • @Reew13 That is true, but what was Allen supposed to do in the meantime. You're assuming that all 911 operators have basic first aid cards by their phones so they can talk the caller through the necessary treatment or actions. In the 1980's, the 911 system was still in its infancy.

  • @happy7117 Fuck off! He doesn't KNOW the FUCKING FUTURE!!!!

  • Also I believe this proves that whole Girls rule Boys drool thang.

  • And you just proved that you're a sexist idiot!

  • 1. I didn't know you were a guy....

    2. It's just a show so your comment was pointless...

    3. You're not a whore I was just mad because I've came across youtube vids were women are being sexist towards men..sorry

  • Haha You got -6! lol

  • it teaches you to not fool around, when your learning something important and always listen and asked about something you missed

  • lol

  • I would have sued them for CPR without a lisence...well the ACLU would of

  • Would HAVE*

  • Great episode to see. Punky knows how to do CPR along with Margaux & they saved Cherie's life. And they did it well since what they did in school.

  • Allen = jerk. Maybe next time he will think twice about clowning around in class

  • eu lembro desse episodio assisti quando era

piquinininho.. mas me lembro como ser fosse outem!! engrassando como a nossa memoria quarda as

coissas direitinho ... saudades dos bous tempos... beiiiijossSs!!! glaudison

  • Poor Allen!! OMG! I am like so crying!! This is supposed to be a sitcom?? Whatever! Imma kill myself after watching this heart destroying drama!

  • if you're distraught after watching this episode, i dont think you should watch the anniversary that boyboy posted - now that is a heart destroying drama

  • OMG!! Im gonna go check it out!! lol

    *glutton for punishment*!

  • OMG! Just saw both episodes! What a sick joke! I am balling my eyes out!!! FOR REALS!!! haha! *embarrassed*! Oh well! How can anyone NOT believe in God after watching something like this. And what true friendship displayed by Punky and Cherie.. *points above* THAT'S GOD!! I get VERY spiritual when talking about death and friendship! Remember people.. it matters how u treat people on Earth while they are here! Sometimes it IS too late...When Punky said "Give my best to God!" I lOST IT!!

  • Aww, poor little Cherie.... =( At least they saved her! :D

  • is this the end of the episode? i wanna see what happens after this! thanx for posting what u have!

  • this is the end of the episode, i dont have the psa annoucement

  • You've just demonstrated RAS.

  • There was a PSA right after this episode.

Actualy it was more like an announcement with the announcer saying "CPR should only be administered by those who are properly trained"

As he said it, there was a still with Cherie, Mike, and Punky doing CPR on the dummy to emphasize the announcement.

  • Announcer- I meant voice-over.

  • allen is so cute

    lol

  • Thank got for Punky and Henry... This was scary... Again... THANK GOD....

  • The girls did Cpr right. Yeah for them. I am little fuzzy I remeber watching this show but I do not remeber the year it came out can anyone tell me?

  • LOL Cherie is always hungry!

  • I am so proud of Punky and Margue

we need more shows like this to teach kids basic life saving techniques!!

  • This episode was so traumatic for a 6 year old to watch. I made sure to stay away from broken refrigerators after watching this.

Such a great show. Thanks for the upload.

  • There was a public service announcement that aired afterward I think. Gosh, I can still remember and that was almost twenty years ago. Crazy, this was a pretty good show. I also remember afterward everybody warning us not to do CPR unless we're totally sure how to do it.

  • allen you moron.

  • I actually saw a photo of the story that this was based off of in one of my friend's Criminal Investigation text books. The moment I saw the photo it brought chills through my spine and I remembered this episode from long ago. It's unfortunately that they don't have more TV like this where kids can learn to avoid having accidents and repeating deadly mistakes.

  • Now if memory serves me, wasn't there a PSA before the beginning of the episode?! This was in reruns over 20+ years ago

  • The PSA was at the end. The voice-over says "CPR should only be administered by those properly trained"

At the beginning, they show the boy who won the contest for submitting an episode idea for the show.

This ep. was based off an idea for an episode written by a little boy!

  • thanks so much for getting part 2, boyboy1080 I been waiting for this one for a long time, now if I can watch this without crying.

  • dude i think about this all the time since i saw it first when i was like 4.....first time i've seen it since.....its still creepy

    awesome

  • poor cherie.

  • Oh thanks now I'm crying too. I really wish they made good educational shows like this today. Now the shows are like 98% entertainment and 2% education if even that. Thanks for sharing a little of the past with us.

  • "I sure hope so Henry!" Gotta love Soleil!

I feel like I'm 8 years old again (wiping tears)-- and Allen crying-- poor little thing. Thanks so much for the post.

  • shut up u jerk!

  • You are the best!!!!

  • wow!thx for finishing wat nostalgia didnt finish..ur awesome...lol
