Aint no rapper nowadays with some badass lyrics like that!!!

RIP Curtis. A true poet and musician!

  • we must give credit to a very under rated yet pivotal figure in the sound of Curtis Mayfield..the late great Master Henry Gibson on percussion...Bless

  • I love this song...play it on my mp.3 daily!

  • If you don't want your songs removed, put in your desciption the copyright thinggy. look at other people's description in songs. They'll have them

  • @mayena, I've got many Curtis Mayfield CD's. If they won't let us listen to some of his songs on youtube. I'll post them elsewhere in downloadable format. Labels should not be nickel and dimeing loyal fans.

  • I think Raheem Devaughn patterns himself after Curtis Mayfield......... good music will always live. This is from 1974 and it is still classic... Too bad, Soldie Boy will not be heard from 2 yrs from now. LOL..

  • 'What's a nice girl like you doin in a place like this...?' :D

  • this song was used in the begining of Benjamin Bratt new movie La Mission .

  • i read somewhere that this was written by norman whitfield and barrett strong(known for writing songs for the temptations), is that true?

  • @SB7771

HELL NO. Curtis wrote his own shit!

  • you can tell that prince stole this mans singing style !!

  • @dano122772 Lenny Kravitz sings like he was inspired by Mayfield too. Check out Kravitz`" It Aint Over"and "What Comes Around...".

  • @kevhar12

    thats right

  • :S:S:S:S:S:S:S

  • This is not even close to rap because rap sucks. Curtis Mayfeild is the bomb. Music like this can't be attempted by rap idiots and your idiotic nursery rhymes. This music is real. Study the 60's and 70's and you will see a world with a whole different vibe.

  • @dmgcat hey bro yes tha 70s were da shit!! but rap isnt bullshit!!

Look up G-Funk!! Itz basically 70s redone!!

  • @dmgcat I agree. I like some rap, but rap doesn't hold a stick to this and other music by greats such as Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Isley Bros, and others.

  • @dmgcat It appears that you've been gravely misinformed. The pitiful excuse for rap that is played on the radio brings shame upon real hip hop, ask anyone (and I do mean anyone) with an ounce of sense. Believe it or not, once upon a time rap had a real message other than gats and hoes. Black Star, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Philadelphia Slick, Binary Star, KRS one, the Roots, Gang Starr, and Jeru the Damaja videos are gold mines if you're looking for good music. Please, give it a try.

  • @jmarrvin You're so right man.

  • @jmarrvin:

There's still some good Hip-Hop artists today if you look for them.

    Like this one: /watch?v=yAJB7_LiKFg

  • Old School Rap.

Before THEY even did it. Back in the day Curtis Mayfield spoke his mind.

    Great One By him!

No cuss words, No derrogatory statements about women. Curtis spoke his mind.

Am looking forward to Jada and Will's son do his thing and perform as a young

    "kung fu" artist.

  • i never heard this but i like it..

  • STRAIGHT pimpin, at it's finest. Check da Mayfield library. A man ahead of his time, WITHIN his time. now digg dat...

  • hit #3 soul, #40 pop in Billboard. RIP, Curtis. God bless!

  • i love curtis mayfield, and gangstarr just made this track better by sampling it

  • @kcroyals2009

Gangstarr made this better? I would nhighly doubt that.

  • @SlickFunker

yeah i like it more now that gang starr used it....it has more value as a song now, at least for me knowing that one of the best hip hop duos ever sampled it.

  • @kcroyals2009

If you judge the quality of a song on whether a rap group sample it, or not, that's your call, but in no way did Gangstarr make this fantastic song any better, they just recognised it's quality, and lifted it.

The quality of the song has remained the same throughout.

  • @SlickFunker yeah if you want to be so damn critical acting like you know all about everything, then fuck off.

  • @kcroyals2009

If you can point out which part of my post is wrong, I'll appologise.

Gangstarr, and CMW, may have brought it to the attention of a lot more people, but they didn't have any influence on the quality of this track.

It's always been tremendous, whether it was sampled, or not.

  • good stuff....

  • Man this is one of the best songs EVER from one of the greatest artists EVER. period. no other way to put it jack

  • What the fuck? Are all you people THAT illiterate? It's a badass song ,but you morons dumb it down with your incoherent babbling, just stfu and enjoy the damn track...

  • I used to use thing song to practice my Kung Fu. I was recently over here from latin america and i smelled like platanos... Kung Fu Fool ... Lol.. But a Puerto Rican version...

  • can anybody post "do-do wap is strong in here" off the short eyes ost his baddest jam ever !!!

  • check my video's now. . before they remove it. I got it on there for you.

  • @theoakman34 a little space is all that i need if these suckas just allow me 2 breathe... thats all i got

  • I did not know that one. thank you.

Early in his career C.Mayfield was with the VeeJay Label in Chicago like bluesman Jimmy Reed. Curtis Mayfield recorded one session with Jimmy Reed and played guitar on the tracks. But do you know when and on what songs? I made a little tribut to Jimmy Reed. I would like to invite you to see it. Just click on my name (and leave a comment/rating if you want). It is an animated short (duration 74 seconds).

    Greetings

  • curtis mayfield is my favorite musician.. i had to flip this my self in a beat... 5*****

  • Favorite Curtis Mayfeild song!!!!!

  • Does any know who owns Curtom Records or the official rights Curtis Mayfield published music ?.

  • it seems like warner owns everything . . i'm struggling to keep the vids away from them, but they keep finding'em and shutting'em down. i have soo much more Curtis to share, it's extremely annoying.

  • @Shadowlily21 Another reason for WMG and their like to go the way of the dodo. What good do they serve the public at this point in time (if any)??? Lol, I feel your frustration though...

    >;-)

  • @Shadowlily21 Todd Mayfield publishing.

  • savage samples just flow from this shit.

  • DJ Mike T flipped this too for Compton's Most Wanted on Growing up in the hood.

  • 4 real---

    very niiice

  • it's insane how Premier flipped this one for Gang Starr's "Nice Girl, Wrong Place"
