If you check Maori chants, they speak of coming from a place called Hawaiki. In other words, they were part of Hawaiians before they settled New Zealand. They however kept the r and t consonants. I know of classmates who were from ni'ihau who spoke the same way. If i recall, in NZ they say kanaka maori, in Hawaii we say kanaka maoli. We both say moa, you guys say aroha, we say aloha. To think that maybe maori left here and then decided to invent the haka, maybe they already knew it, we lost it?

@caleyear01 I agree, celebration is wrong, (unlike the BCS, where celebration and running up scores is considered fun and games), but the Haka is nothing more than a device to get teams hyped up for a game. It's nothing compared to so-called traditions of top 25 teams. It's not mocking the other team, but I understand where some people don't enjoy a "war chant". And seriously, the refs are too hard on the lesser conferences when it comes to celebration penalties....

If you check Maori chants, they speak of coming from a place called Hawaiki. In other words, they were part of Hawaiians before they settled New Zealand. They however kept the r and t consonants. I know of classmates who were from ni'ihau who spoke the same way. If i recall, in NZ they say kanaka maori, in Hawaii we say kanaka maoli. We both say moa, you guys say aroha, we say aloha. To think that maybe maori left here and then decided to invent the haka, maybe they already knew it, we lost it?

The "HAKA" was created for NZ ALL BLACKS RUGBY TEAM by a maori...NOT FOR HAWAIIAN/AMERICAN FOOTBALL, or any other sport. ffs get it right. since when has football decided to create a haka??????? Hawaaian, Tongan and Samoan all have their own style.. if they wish to incorporate that then sweet. You have to understand that improper use of a traditional haka is very offensive. your really are stubbourn. your'e reading between lines. its a hawaiin football team. so what if it has maori people in it. so do a lot of teams around the world, but you don't see them doing a haka, why? because they're in a team thats in a different country, that has different traditions. we aren't all one people, we are all different and we have different cultural identities. the thing is the team is based in hawaii, not a team from new zealand in hawaii. they should do the hula instead.
