  • wow this is amazing

  • Beautiful music, thank you. Currently got a NEX-5 and need all the good bits like xlr etc but still tossing up with the 7d for the image look.. gah :p

  • I'm having problem on my nightshots and i get alot of noise. Your night shot config is just perfect. Do you mind sharing the picture profile you use and any custom settings you applied. Your help will be much appreciate it.

  • @mtwproduction If you're getting noise just make sure you're shooting at +9 DB or lower. I didn't use a picture profile for this, I just shot wide open and at either 0 or 9 db, with 30fps so that I could take my shutter to 30 (if you shoot at 60, you lose a stop of light). I did the rest of the color in post production. I'd suggest shooting default like I did, then applying (if you have one) a color correction preset to switch the color from studio RGB to computer RGB.

  • @mtwproduction Or if you want I can let you know a profile picture setting I've customized for maximum range of stops in exposure, but it wouldn't necessarily help any in low light. let me know

  • As a news stringer I want this camera it looks fantastic in low light . It would leave the news stations screaming for more news.

  • That spindle configuration in night shots, blacks look good in my shots out loud. What settings did you use for the takes in the night? is using a noise filter to clean? Which? thanks

  • Did you really took that with a HXR-NX5?? I get no clear takes under this conditions. What settings did you use for the takes in the night? Chris

  • Thank you for the video - enjoyed it, great music :)

  • I am going to be filming a short film this weekend with a nx5u. Would you recommend 1080/30p or 1080/24p. I want the highest quality video without sacrificing interlaced lines or shuttering video. Thanks.

  • @lukebrwntube Generally there isn't a lot of difference. If you're using sony vegas to edit with shoot 30p, if you're using anything else to edit then shoot 24p would be my suggestion. Good luck!

  • @AntiqueIvory Why should I shoot in those frame rates for each editing system? I filmed it in 1080/24p and I wasn't sure which program I was going to use because I have both but I am much more fluent on Vegas so I was leaning towards using that, could I still use it even though my footage I shot is in 1080/24p?

  • @lukebrwntube Well tv's refresh at 30 or 60 fps, so 30 is good to shoot at so you don't have to worry about frame pull downs, but 24p still looks exellent in vegas. final cut just has problems with 30p dropping frames and stuff, from what i hear. I pretty much strictly use vegas now. Just make sure to set your project to 1080x1920 24p and it will work great. Vegas is just as good at 24 as the others, the other just aren't as good at 30 as vegas is.

  • @AntiqueIvory Awesome, I have been using Vegas for about 5 years now and love it. I have been trying out Avid and Final Cut but I just cant get over how user friendly Vegas is and just the sheer easy to use power it offers, and the speed that I can edit using Vegas is far superior than Final Cut or Avid. Vegas all the way!

Thank you so much for all the answers to my questions, it has helped me very much. I really appreciate it.

  • @lukebrwntube Of course! Yeah, after lots of experience in final cut, plus plenty of work in avid and premier, I honestly believe vegas is a far superior piece of software- It does everything the other programs do, plus more in a lot of cases (motion tracking, for instance), and is 10259812357 times easier to use. feel free to let me know if you have any more questions about anything!

  • @AntiqueIvory So I am making this video now in Vegas and I have a small issue, when I render files they become super sized. Like for example, one file of raw footage from the camera that is 324MB renders out of Vegas around 5GB at the same settings as the footage is. My render settings are... = HD 1080-24- YUV. Is that the format I should use for this HD footage to get the highest quality as possible.

  • @AntiqueIvory Also, this video in the end is going to have to go on a DVD, what should I render my video as for it to, 1. fit on a DVD and 2. have the best quality that a DVD can support? Thanks again.

  • @lukebrwntube For going to DVD, select the mpeg-2 format (under render), then pick the "DVD architect pro widescreen" preset. then click custom, go to audio tab, and check "include audio". I'd suggest under the video tab raising the quality to a little over half. Also I'd change the minimum data rate to be higher than the preset, but not as high as the maximum. You might have to type it in manually. If I have time I'll post some good data rates too. Once that's done, render the same file as .ac3

  • @lukebrwntube (the .ac3 file is what DVD's use for audio. If you're using DVD architect you'll drag that file over the original sound file that you included with the video so that the software doesn't have to re-render the audio. So its also important to make sure you have the same loop region selected as you did for the video when you render the .ac3, or if you had the loop region off for the video render do the same for the .ac3 audio)

  • What was your shutter speed for this?

  • @JHPStudios probably 30. I'm not absolutely sure. If you shoot over 30 shutter when you're shooting at 30p in artificial light (especially florescent light) you can see the phase off with the lights and you get dark lines in your video. Fun fact about shutter speed. K.

  • could you sharing your custom settings , or where can find for night shots

    thanks

  • @ELAJUSTADOR I just had the iris all the way open with gain at +9, 30p and no profile picture. I matched color with bars from the camera in post for the great blacks (which you can do perfectly fine without bars too.)

  • Song?

  • @FLIGHTSIMEXTREME "Picture Perfect Dream" by Ivory Drive

  • I loved the shots you pulled focus on, but how did you get that last shot of the bunnies? I'm getting this camera this week, but some of the manual focus tricks still elude me...

  • @russel5375 tracking in (in this case walking forward) and zooming out at the same give that effect.

  • @russel5375 or maybe tracking out and zooming in.

  • Is this video shot on 24, 30 or 60?

can you shoot at 1080 60 and still get the same results?

  • @wolfsoto begining it said 30p

  • whats the difference with the U and the E model?

  • @FLIGHTSIMEXTREME nothing, they call it nx5e in europe and nx5u in the u.s.

  • @AntiqueIvory Thanks for the reply, Good video!!!

  • These shots, especially at the beginning, are freaking gorgeous, man. I've favorited this video and will be watching it many times. The NX5U is my dream camera at the moment. God is it gorgeous...

  • Hi, Great job. Please can you Post Camera settings. Thanks a lot

  • @arminreiss1 settings vary with all those shots. I can tell you I was all the way open all the time on the aperture, gain was +9 and maybe +18 for just a couple of them. I did a little post work to get the nice colors, but I've managed to get it to look just about the same using only camera settings (profile picture custom stuff like black level and saturation) to accomplish the same thing without doing any color correction at all in post.

  • I'm really liking this camera thinking of getting one, I have been a canon man all my life but i do like the 128 gig drive with it to speed up my workflow.. Did you change any of the picure style or setting to get the slick saturated film look in your shots or was it tweeked in post ????

    cheers for the help !!!

  • What is name of the song?

  • @gitmajonez007

It's "Picture Perfect Dream" by Ivory Drive

  • Thanks for this great demo of the NX5! I think about getting one myself..... could you maybe post some more testfootage of lights (streetlights, cars comming towards the camera, etc.) at dusk/night? I want to see how the Exmos-chip looks compared to a ccd-Chip (like in a xha1)

    Would be great!

  • @DrNibbert Yeah I'll try to get to that sometime in the next week or so.

  • Really appreciate it, great song too. I was just watching someone talk about using the SDI out and having it as a studio cam, so then getting 2 of them for a semi-perm. studio setup in the house and live swap between the two with remote.. mmmm.. looks like beautiful gear. Cant find anything on the market comparable as my first foray into equipment ownership for video production :)

  • Did you use the advanced image stabilization on these shots?

  • @musicallikeafox

I'm pretty sure I had it off for those shots

  • @musicallikeafox actually i think i'd forgetten to turn it back on after having it on a tripod, then turned it on halfway though that shoot. but the shots are all mixed up, so I couldn't really tell you which was which

  • Thanks for sharing this video. Good job. I just got my NX5U and I love it.

  • Can you give a preset to download ???

  • I don't actually think I can, but if you give me your email in a message I'll upload it to my FTP or to yousendit and send you the link for the download.

  • One thing i dont like is the six sided aperture; which produces hexagon out of focus points of light. How hard would it be have a fully circular or 9 bladed aperture.

  • yeah I know. in some cases, I like lenses with fewer blades because the focus points look kind of "starry". But yeah, for the most part it'd be nice if it had a 9 bladed one. What I'd really like is an AVCHD camcorder like that one that had removable lens. Or if the stupid SLR's could record for more than 12 min and had a rotating shutter

  • how happy are you with the camera so far? I ordered mine already.. just curious.. Its killing me to wait for the backorder..

  • I'm pretty happy with it. The one thing that is annoying is the AVCHD files have to be either converted or you have to have a super fast computer. I happen to have a super fast computer, so it's fine for me, but you might have to get AVCHD converter software if your computer can't play the raw files.

  • but I really do love the camera.

  • @AntiqueIvory To which format should you convert it? Which codec use?

  • @DylanPenev Well i don't use a codec, I just edit the AVCHD files in sony vegas without changing them. I think final cut has a good converter for editing, then you can export those AVCHD files as quicktime when you are done. As far as PC, .m2t is the best exporting format for HD, but apple only uses quicktime.

  • @AntiqueIvory you use Windows? if so what are the specs of your computer?

    Mine is 8GB 800Mhz DDR2 2.83Ghz Quad core with 12MB cache 2 x 500GB 5400rpm 1GB Nvidia GTX280

Can It handle the full HD 24mbps Video?

  • @C2567 well my drives are 7200rmp but that shouldn't make a difference, and i don't know what version quad core you have, i have the i7. The video it can handle seems to be dependent on how it's compressed. It easily can play full HD as an .m2t file, but the AVCHD files are compressed to a point where it has some trouble playing them raw, but only right at the beginning of a clip.

  • @DylanPenev # spanishdavo said that you don't need a converter, which is only true if you have a fast enough processor. Otherwise your computer won't be able to handle it and you'll need to convert the files.

  • Awesome! thanks for doing the request.. what were the gain settings?

  • @phexus82 most of them were +9, there were a few at 0 and maybe 1 or 2 were ate +18. if you have that camera at its highest gain its like night vision. You can get the shadows to be somewhat brighter than what the real light is, if you have any light at all.
