  • Many sega memories that should have read

  • Was my favourite game on mega cd, loved the intro then and still do now. Never heard the other version till now, sounds rubbish, only knew the one on this video, great game and many default memories

  • Why did they change the song this the best version!!!

  • @roblfc8188 From what I understand, it was licensing issues. Which I'll admit is odd since its the first time that's been an issue with You Can Do Anything or Cosmic Eternity.

But on the bright side, I've uploaded the newer version and included all the different variations of the soundtrack, including the original with lyrics. Just click the note on the bottom

  • same song thats on my sonic cd love it

  • The 1 person who disliked isn't a"toot toot sonic warrior'' or whatever the song said. T_T

  • J'adore cette musique!

  • I love this Sonic and I love modern Sonic, though Modern sonic has barely started being good(the 3d games anyway the hand held sonics are always great)

  • one of the best intro ever

  • thumbs up if you liked the way the Sonic CD sonic looked best!

  • To me this is the best Sonic CD intro. Waaaaaaaaaay better than Sonic Boom, which I find slow and boring. And before anyone says that, no, it's not nostalgia feeling: I didn't play this gane until last year, thanks to an emulator. I tried bth BSO and find the European/Japanese one to be superior in all senses.

  • I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE!!! (well, ya know, before it became all this elise and talking swords shit.)

  • And if you dont like the swearing then don't post on a social network fool, guess what, you were bound to hear it once in your life

  • @whateveryousez Who said I didn't like swearing. A few manners don't cost anything though.

  • @whateveryousez Sure. Shock, horror, people have different opinions. So what. You're entitled to your opinion.

Cut out the pointless swearing, its not emphasising anything.

  • sega needs to seriously redesign sonic in reverse

  • Can you all stop bitching about the way Sonic looks?! I mean, every video game character goes through changes throughout time. Donkey Kong looked hella different than he does now if you look at the original Donkey Kong arcade game artwork. And Link looked really gay in the CD-I games but now he looks totally different. My point is, his appearance doesent matter at all. The games are what matters. And I thought most Sonic the Hedgehog games were pretty kickass.

  • I don't understand!!! The design of this version of Sonic is... well, pure genius! I like how the style of everything is based on classic anime, but I'm so disappointed that Sega had to make him tall and skinny in 1998. He doesn't even look like he could run fast anymore. Short and spherical is the way to go, Sega! Please return to your awesome roots someday.

  • @lotusbandicoot Ew no. Even if the games were better (which they weren't) Sonic looked really lame in the classic games. Sonic is about COOLNESS. The chubby Sonic DOES NOT look cool.

  • @shadowclone452 Yeah, you're right. Modern Sonic has long arms, long legs, stretched belly. He looks like original Sonic had sex with Disney's Goofy, and he's their child. And we all know how COOL Goofy is! :D

And Tails. Oh Tails, they really made him better! An asexual-cute looking furball like his original appearance?! What the...? An introduction to furry shotacon for preteens, that is what he should look like! You know, like today. I'm actually fapping to him right now...

  • @mensk1987 That was vulgar. You shouldn't speak that way T_T.

Also, I was just stating my opinion, dude. Calm down.

One more thing: Goofy IS cool!!! Do you know anyone else who has the natural coordination to win a skateboard compitition by ACCIDENT!? I doubt it! XD

  • @shadowclone452 LOL, don't worry, I actually don't mind if you think today's Sonic style is better. Just DON'T state that the Sonic back then (say, the ORIGINAL Sonic ;-)) "does not look cool" and everything is fine! :-)

  • @shadowclone452 Did you just say the classic Sonic games AREN'T BETTER THAN THE NEW ONES? I can respect opinions, but that's not an opinion. That's BULLSHIT!

  • @SuperAwesomeTiago They aren't. Every series needs to move forward, and Sonic has done that quite well. People need to stop living in the past and move on. There will NEVER be a"good" Sonic game according to the "fans", so they just need to give up and find a different series. Oh and by the way, I didn't call them "bad" or anything. The old ones were just so... boring. When it comes to 2D Sonic games, the Advance series was MUCH better.

  • @shadowclone452 Whatever.I like platforming and challenge better than simply running forward and jumping constanly only to finish the whole game in 1 hour.

  • @SuperAwesomeTiago That statment tells me you clearly haven't tried them. The Sonic Rush game are kinda like that, I admit. But I was talking about the Advance games, which are actually a lot harder than the original in most people's opinions. So... yeah.

  • @shadowclone452 Uhm, just one little question: Why do we have to "stop living in the past and move on"? It's just a Video Game, ought to bring us entertainment, not to teach us the theory of evolution. Look, EVERY "old" franchise actually is going back to the roots, even (or especially) Mario. Times of "reinventing" games is over.

I think just that is Sega's problem: they try to make more out of Sonic than he is; a VIDEO GAME CHARACTER.

Although they TRIED to go back... halfway... and FAILED.

  • @shadowclone452 And how has Sonic done the moving forward "quite well"? He went from "so awesome, he kicked Mario's butt so hard he could lick Sonic's shoes out of his own mouth" to "Oh, it's a new Sonic game? Maybe THAT one won't be THAT bad." being a Nintendo/PS/Xbox bitch.

The franchise had unnecessary change of style, unnecessary change of character design, and most of all, tons of UNNECESSARY NEW CHARACTERS.

If it would be a TV show, it would have been canceled ages ago.

  • @SuperAwesomeTiago this "Harry Potter generation" wouldn't know good taste if it bit em in the ass

  • @Frizzurd

I'm from said generation and I know I have good taste so don't generalize everyone in that category

  • USA missed out! This is the FAR MORE SUPERIOR SOUNDTRACK unlike that OTHER Soundtrack!

  • You know, I think they should of used this vid to make an intro to the Sonic movie - Sonic OVA - 'cause that meant to be a series, and the movie we knew were actually in two episodes in Japan.

  • 0:59 Funny, how he was acting badass until he fell into the puddle. Not hard to imagine him saying: "Water, Water, oh crap." Then he runs on the wall as if to say: "Nothing happened"

  • japan sound winner

    sonic one in CD

    sega

  • Wow. I like both the songs. XD But this one does flow better with the animation.

  • @AeonicAnax this was the original soundtrak so thats why

  • Comment removed

  • Toot Toot Sonic Warrior for life!

This song and intro combination is just perfect, the song also is supremely nostalgic for me because it was originally used as the Green Hills Zone theme in Sonic 2 on the SMS, and I love the SMS Sonic's just as much as the Mega Drive versions.

  • Watching this gave me chills! I remember this game was insanely-huge where I lived when it came out. Sonic's lost his groove now...

  • I just realized that Sonic's right eye is a little taller than his left. Maybe that subconsciously makes him look like he's constantly giving you this "I'm so cool." look. ...Or maybe it's just easier for the artists to draw. XD

  • Sonic looks so round and cute! CD is still my favourite Sonic game to this day!

  • Nice quality video!

  • Nice quality video!

  • better than "Sonic Boobs" song xD

  • En español suena a tutu tocame la polla...jejeje lol

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!

  • Japan and the UK mist out on the song

  • Not really. Sonic Boom still featured in other games such as Smash Bros. Brawl or the European version of Sonic Gems.

Difference is Sonic Warrior has genuine nostalgic value for us and Sonic Boom doesn't.

  • @bryUK if you had Sonic Boom instead of Sonic Warrior, then Sonic Boom WOULD have nostalgic value for you, on top of superior quality.

    You missed out.

  • @DoctorPhileasFragg I already said this was possible, but its by no means certain.

As I've said before, the main thing that I like about the original version is that the animation and music were specifically made to match each other. The timing is perfect at multiple points which is what brings it together.

I find no correlation with Sonic Boom, which I still find to be an entirely dull and boring tune to begin with.

I just have a different opinion from you, its as simple as that.

    Big deal.

  • @bryUK

I really want to like this song more than Sonic Boom, but come on..."Toot, toot, Sonic Warrior"?

How do you get past the horrible engrish in this song?

  • @SonicVSJasonGriffith Easy, the music itself has an actual tune.

  • @theguywiththegames Charming

  • I guess Sonic CD's intro & Ending animation's is looks like Sonic OVA ^^^

  • The OVA simplified the designs a fair bit, for example Sonic has less spikes and a more rounded design, but overall you're right.

Its anime from a similar era after all.

  • This is my favorite version of the CD intro awesome vid :D

  • allright in sonic heroes opening...we can see the similar moves and it includes metal sonic too...so...whenever metal appears as badass in a game sonic does this moves huh ? LOL !

  • TOOT TOOT SONIC WARRIOR!

  • anybody else notice that in the original opening of sonic cd, it was alot slower yea, but there wa s small part left off the newer version that shows the robotnik shaped rock the planet was chained to?

  • Yeah thats because in 1993 video codecs were piss poor, specially those for the SegaCD, so video was very chopy and slow. They fixed that, in 1994/95

  • That and the fact that the Mega-CD only had a 1x speed CD-ROM drive.

That's a transfer rate of only 150kbs, hence the long load times despite the simplicity of the data involved.

  • @Shadowlayer yea but that's not what i'm saying, aside from the fact it's slower, there was an extra part in the mega cd version that was for some reason removed from the higher quality videos

  • Its relevant because of the timing.

They re-added a lot of scenes that were cut from the original Mega-CD version (though you could still see a number of them as black and white sketches in the Pencil Test), but cut some other minor scenes.

In the end, the main reason is the length of the song, that's what dictated the editing.

Same for the ending. The Sonic Jam version combined elements from the good and bad endings, yet because of the faster play speed, it still finishes before the song.

  • long live sonic cd, the best sonic game ever :)

  • it gives me the same feeling as the animation in the Reading Rainbow intro does

  • My gosh, this animation is awesome! So detailed, so fast yet so full of charm and energy- I have watched it many times but I never get tired!

  • @TheMagicdunk90

yeah, japanese know how to make epic animation..dynamic pace, awesome camera angles, superb chareography -its all there, cant stop watching this too.. i wish it gone a bit furghter then just intro fmv, sonic ova was ok and sonic x sucked so much ((

  • it looks great especally today!

  • If it weren't for the terrible rapping (at least that's what it sounds like) during the first half of this song, I might like it better than the US version. The good half of this song is timed seamlessly with the video, and it's a cool tune, but the guy shouting at the beginning crushes any love I could have for this music. I guess which version you like boils down to which you grew up with, but "Sonic Boom" gives me a more otherworldly, epic, adventurous feeling.

  • go to google and type in bring sonic back to his roots.

  • lolol roflomglolhahahahah!!!

  • The Sega CD version also differs with some of the frames themselves. I remember, there was a scene were Sonic saves Amy and his hair curved differently in each version. Also in the SCD version, he doesn't run around that wooden loop and it shows a Robotnik carving on a mountain.

  • The old Sonic was awesome.

  • omg, i still have this game! shame i can't play it though, the color setting needed for it isn't avaliable on newer computers. :(

  • Sonic used to look so cute and round AND he kicked butt in style.

  • Yeah now he just kills everyone and gives a cocky chuckle.

  • no that's Shadow... minus the cocky chuckle... he just frowns lol

  • Oh good point.

  • this is the classic sonic.

non of that werehog black knight crap.

  • @SonicOrbit01 I agree with you man. The biggest drawback about Sonic these days (in my opinion) are the gimmicks. Sonic is about speed, but apparently, according to SEGA, he's about everything else.

  • @SonicOrbit01 I disagree...

  • THIS. IS. THE. REAL. SONIC.

    am i rite?

  • You're right. And when you're right, you're right. And when you're right, you're not wrong. Right?

  • That video was badass! I could do without the singing though.

  • This video versions different to the one Ive got! And Ive got the European one as well! Weird

  • Ah, the REAL Sonic! i remember seeing this on SONIC JAM for the first time, I was psyched!!

"You can do anything" was meant to be the real song of SONIC CD, but America had the short end of the stick and got a "fake" song Sonic boom instead, no to mention different soundtrack.

Sonic CD JP/EU = Real sonic CD, how it was meant to be heard.

  • Word. The American version got fucked up by some jazzed up theme music. Still awesome but this was the real music for the into.

  • i didnt like the redubbed version tbh. Some parts are really contrived. kinda ruins it for me.

Original will always be the best.

  • He should of ran across the top of the water instead of doin a spazzy swim, still top tho! 1 of the best sonic games as well, i loved the whole time travel gimmick

  • Yeah, I really liked the past/present/future theme. Letting past actions reshape the future. With today's storage capacities, I think that style of level design is due for a comeback.

  • could you imagine a game larger then sonic 1, CD, 2, 3&K combined? on a disc, super detailed old school sprites huge levels with 3 acts and a miniboss in act 2, and boss in act 3

  • D: But Sonic can't swim.

  • which is why he runs on it

  • this rocks

  • In the EU ver of sonic gems it has the US soundtrack in sonic CD.

  • Yeah. Not often game compilations are that considerate!

I have Sonic CD on the MegaCD, Sonic Jam and Gems, so I'm covered.

Toot Toot Sonic Warrior is much better than Sonic Boom though in my honest opinion. In fact the whole non-US soundtrack was. .

  • Wow this is the clearest version of the Ssonic CD Anime i've seen!^^ AWESOME!^^

  • I actually like both versions but this one is strangely catchier than I thought it would be.

  • I like them both

  • You did the song of Sonic CD song that was in every country away from america

  • sonic you can do anything doesn't fit with whats going on in the vidio like sonic boom does... whatever i still like sonic you can do anything

  • you americans no nothing only jap/eur had access to a brill soundtrack like this

  • blah blah america has some good music but i do prefer japanese music over american especially since ther is no hannah montanna in japan

  • Actually...there is. :\ They have Disney Channel over there too. Includes Hannah Montana and all.

  • Yeah Baby!!! : )

  • :-)

  • Iwanted to see wut all the fighting was about so i just checked the other intro to compare and i think this one, the japan one, tho cheesy fits better. The other one is good to convey sonics speed but its just a track thrown over some animation. THIS one actually times the music from begining to end with each sequence in the animation. Look at:58-1:00, 1:24 the sound when he breaks the rock and then returning bac to the music when running up the rock. sorry animation stu herewho likes to critiqe

  • that thing looked like the death star XD

  • *thinks of metaphor*The sky is the limit...*watches to end*...well, guess not...

  • why is Sonic flipping us off in the beginning?!

  • Wrong finger and its pointing in the wrong direction for that.

Wagging his index finger was Sonic's trademark gesture for many, many years.

  • Cool!!!!!!!

  • wow, there's some really sad person voting down everyone who prefers the song the developers chose for it.

  • to sum it up, both songs are good, each one has our own opinion and I like both.

  • i like the american "sonic boom" song over the odd japanese.europe one. also why must the video have to be so choppy on the emulators?

  • So glad you re-added Sonic Warrior, is what I originally heard on the european version. Sonic Boom still doesn't sound right over it. Doesn't see why it had to be removed as it was in English to begin with.

  • Nah.

Sonic boom is WAY better to me.

I mean the intro is like 5! 6! Pick up sticks!

    Weird.

  • Actually it says 6! 5! So stay alive!

  • Wow, how many versions of this song are there?! XD I much prefer the original recording, posted above in Video Response, for those interested. (Most probably because I heard that version first - back on Sonic Jam on the Sega Saturn, ahh memoriez...)

  • The European/Japanese soundtrack is way better then the American.

  • 1) Your opinion is not law

    2) Keep it clean

  • Sorry dude. I didn't use any R-rated profanity. I love crazy Engrish-Japanese music as much as the next J-Pop, anime, and videogame geek out there, but you have to be honest this song just isn't that good. It sounds off-pitch, poorly developed, and just not that cool. It comes across as very cheesy. Sega of America did a much better job of promoting Sonic back in the day than Sega International as evident with the Sonic cartoons and comics of the 90s and of course the fun Sonic Boom song.

  • If its all the same to you, I'd rather not have anything you don't like being described as "gay", it just doesn't look very good.

Its nothing to do with me liking J-pop or Japanese music in the least.

I have never claimed Sonic Warrior was a good song.

However, it is my opinion that Sonic Boom is a truly dreadful song.

    We disagree, that's all.

You have to get used to people having different views.

  • Agreed.

  • Japan/Europe soundtrack beats the US soundtrack in most areas, except Sonic Boom. That was the shit.

  • this sam and max and day of the tentical best game intros ever!! miss these days

  • The intro song they used on the Europian/Japanese verson of sonic cd is waaaaaaaaay better then the american sonic boom, the song is ok but it just doesnt seem to fit the video, or the game. I wonder why they actually change the song for the american release.

    Dan

  • Sonic Boom was a better song overall. But on another note, THIS is how Sonic should be drawn! The way they've stylized him now just SUCKS - the original Sonic animation and attitude wins hands down.

  • well, for that time this is the perfect sonic. i don't see anything wrong with modern stylizing tho

  • I noticed it is true, it syncs here with some things, all in all however, I prefer the US version. Saying you like this better would be for the sake of being an Otaku. The guy rapping at the beginning makes ears bleed, you can't deny that. From 1:15 on (when he is no more), I find it pretty darn sweet, though. Sadly, having about 40 seconds of sweetness alone is what place it in second for me.

Sonic Boom being number 1, of course.

  • In part, its probably down to what you're used to. I didn't dig up the Japanese version and found it different, this is how the game was released in Europe so in that sense, its always going to sound more 'right' to me.

While there are certainly bits of it that are bad, if I'm honest, the -entirety- of Sonic Boom makes my ears bleed. =P

  • At least there's still people around here that can disagree without making an ass of themselves. I salute you, because nowdays, that's worthy of recognition.

  • It's that Cybertron?

  • no you fool! that's the death star!

  • Both versions of the Sonic CD intro is

    Awesome...

  • i think they should return sonic to what he originally was, a young blue hedgehog with an attitude who runs fast and uses spins to beat his enemies, but put it in 3D, they should return his own design, i don't kno if i like his 1991 design or his 1998 one, dunno

  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear) Green Hills Zone

  • The Intro Sounds Like Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear)

  • Is there any way to change the GameCube region so I can play the game with the Japanese music instead of the American? (yes, both soundtracks are stored on the disk)

  • Well, on the PS2 version both soundtracks are on the disc, but for GC only the ending and intro songs are on the disc, I had the action replay code to change that but my AR disc has recently died so I don't think I will be able to get it.

  • This has more of a modern beat. I prefer the US one for some reason though.

  • The problem with the US version is that the music doesn't sync up with the animation at all.

Saying as the sequence was made in Japan, that is the soundtrack it was meant to work with.

If you watch it, you'll see almost all the scene transitions and certain events are perfectly timed with the pace of the music.

    The two are integrated.

By comparison, the US version seems very detached. Like a bad dub.

  • The US version feels "smooth" though. Like some song that makes you feel weird inside. Like you actually wanna be Sonic. IDK I just like the NTSC version better.

  • A bit mistaken in your terminology there. =P

    Japan uses NTSC too.

  • I forgot to say UC. I still like it better.

  • I've never played this game. But after this great vid I have to do. :)

  • the jp one is far better than the us one.

    both are good.

  • i thought they used the bad us music in the pal gems.

  • They did for the PAL version of Sonic Gems Collection on the Gamecube and PS2.

But the original Sega Mega-CD and PC PAL releases featured the Japanese soundtrack.

Even the movies included in the PAL Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn had the Euro/Japanese music.

  • i knew that the uk one was jp soundtrack.

do you have the gamecube or ps2 one?

you can mod the ps2 to make it jp.

    OK?

finally, was the french version using jp?

  • As for as the originals went, all European releases of Sonic CD used the Japanese soundtrack.

Currently, I have the Japanese Sonic Gems Collection imported for the Gamecube.

I sold the UK version when I got the Japanese one. (Japanese soundtrack in Sonic CD, plus all three Streets of Rage games that were cut from the European and American releases)

  • I knew that UK used the US one in Gems collection.

BUT HOW DID YOU GET IT TO WORK?

And does the UK PS2 Gems have the ability to switch soundtracks like the JP PS2 one by switching the languages of the system?

  • Umm...Which console can i get it?

  • SEGA CD, MOTHAFUCKA!!!!

  • Language please.

And its Mega-CD. Only in North America was the add-on called the Sega-CD, just as the Mega-Drive was named the Genesis only in that region.

The reason the name was changed was because of copyrights in the US.

  • good times...old times...kid times...love the sound and the video...5*

  • the us soundtrack is half-decent and the JP/PAL version i believe is the best.

  • Ahhh Dude, I've been looking for the original version of Sonic CD's intro, thanks for the upload. This brings back some mega memories. <3

  • That is PC version,SONIC CD image at the PRESS START screen is a little bit different than in SEGA CD.

  • Nope, its the Gamecube version.

It just so happens the Gamecube game is a port of the PC version, hence 1996. ;)

And Sega didn't update the title screen to reflect its 2005 re-release.

  • I know that, but it's port is SONIC PC Europe, and better,I didn't want to see SEGA changing this awesome game

  • Hmm, actually, other than the 1996 part, the title screen looks identical to the original European Mega-CD release.

  • Yes that's true...I love this game,it should be appreciated more than Adventure,In my opinion

  • The USA version soundtrack is RUBBISH. This song is great and all the original soundtrack too. Spencer Nilsen is not a bad composer, but his work in Sonic CD is the worst thing i ever heard. Perhaps he was drunk during the creation of the soundtrack.

  • this is a exelent opening from a exelent game! sonic cd is a good game and the sound efects and sound track is the best

  • Good times, Sonic was a good character.....and now...he's a douchebag!
