Unfortunately, traps / snares that don't kill can cause a lot of cruel distress (possibly for hours) to any sought after animal in them (as we see with this bird) which gets caught. I remember my Dad setting up a snare to catch rabbit years ago, as my brother wanted to learn. It caught the rabbit alright, but it had been caught in it over night and was screaming in distress and exhausted when they returned next day. Naturally, my Dad had to finish the job. Survival is pretty darn gritty.

I haven't seen how exactly he did it, but my uncle always used nets instead of cages to trap birds. he took the ones which sing nice back home for a couple of days and then released them back into the forest.

whenever he turned on the water they started singing - guess the running water reminds them of a river or something - was really cool.
