IIRC, when the game was in development, Square was planning on making Cyan into a machinist sort of character, which is what those books played into. Then they changed their minds, but never removed those items from the game, so, as you guess, they're useless.

I found bushido in bedroom book in the locked chest in the GBA version, that might be the book of secrets which can be interesting if it did something.

In the European version, Setzer's "Flash" is called again "7-Flush", wich is it's true name. I don't know why they changed it in the USA version. Just letting you know ;)

Don't know if you know this but Sabin is optional as well,

as Celes you can go straight and get Edgar (look back at the video were you get Edgar back, Sabin basically says nothing the whole time, a bit weird since it's his brother)

The C.E.S. Challenge is essentially a game of FFVI in which only the mandatory characters (otherwise, Celes, Edgar, and Setzer) are used to complete the game with.

That was me that told you about the Red Cap. No big deal, glad I could be of help. Terra rocks in her Esper form. Hey, back off, Pink Ranger! And, technically, Sabin is also an optional character. You could choose not to do the burning house sequence in Tzen and not ever get Sabin. The only three mandatory characters are Celes, Edgar and Setzer. In fact, some people play a CES challenge where they only use Celes, Edgar, and Setzer. Pretty hard if you ask me.

Terras back! Alexsoul has to be X-zoned i did that myself. I did not tell you about the commie cap. you should teach Terra flare as soon as possible. Also after you get that character you were talking about back you should climb the magic tower. The treasure at the top know as the Soul of Thamasa you should equip it to Terra. The alex soul enters the body of one of your party members in battle. you would have to kill a party member to get him and kill him without X-zone.

I know all this :P i've beaten FFVI like 20+ times as a kid haha :) and I'm waiting to climb the magic tower, I'm not worried about the GEM BOX as its known here, and as a promise to Azuremage253 I'm going to try to beat Wrexsoul without X-zone. I've done it before its just a monster pain :)
