  • Bobby thank you very much for your talk, it was good to listen what you said because you sound honest an true and I'm agree about do good things and I recognize some times I get negative energy about lot of wrong things happening around, Thank you again!!

  • You've affected me :)

  • Can somebody please help me. How do i get my wacom tablet to use pressure sensitivity?

  • Thanks for the info about concept art.org, awsome site, would love to attend one of the conventions one day :)

  • this speech was really directed to me. "Stop competing." :\

  • This speech was really directed to me. "Stop competing" :\

  • love the hair segment,

I've been freelancing for the past year, and have embraced the long hair with a mustache ;)

  • I WANNA GO TO THE CHURCH OF BOBBY CHUI

  • And I know its cool that you let us get to know you better in your videos by telling us stories and stuff but come on dude, I need to know the secrets, i wanna be the next Jason Chan but first i need to know how on earth your creating such amazing art, I know its not all down to just being gifted coz if that were the case id be flying through PS no problem, I need to know the tricks that enable me to create a 5 hour pic in 5 minutes, and i dont wanna go to college to learn it, please help people

  • Im starting to get very VERY frustrated, ive been using photoshop for a solid 2 years but just recently decided to try and go pro with it, however, i feel restricted and not restricted by my capabilities, just restricted with photoshop. No matter how long i practice photoshop, my work never looks as polished as the art in this video and its because NO concept artist ever tells you the secrets, example, youve just talked about growing your hair and didnt even mention what brushes you use

  • This is when i wish to live in america T_T

  • great video. . . . . its very refreshing to see an artist that very open about things in life, and able to motivate others.

keep making great podcast like this. . . . . . and keep motivate young and struggling artist to be the best they can be.

    CHEERS

  • Whoa whoa whoa, Bobby Chiu has a podcast?!

  • I seen that show lelo and stech.

  • how do you do that in photoshop where you have two windows of the same pic but everything u do on one shows up on the other i never used the feature so like i wouldnt know

  • great!*

  • geat

  • He sounds like Cleveland from family guy..

  • Wow. Now that's the type of video that really makes me want to get my tablet out and begin drawing a random creature now at 15 minutes past 10 o'clock in the evening even though I get up at 6 : 30 in the morning. That's also something that seriously makes me call into question my future career choices.

Anyway it's a pleasure to hear you talk and joke every now and then. You are an awesome artist, please continue inspiring us all. :)

  • Hi Bobby, I did a marathon for Team In Training for the same reasons you describe in your vid. It changed my perspective on pain and suffering (waking up to run at 18 miles on a saturday at 6 am is painful, but nothing like dying of cancer, yeah?)

I want to say I truly respect what you are saying in this video. Great respect sir.

  • How do u make that small window like when hes drawing onthe small window hes also drawing on the main frame

  • @Raveninety9

The little screen on the top left next to the brushes panel

  • Oooh I got it!! Now I know what he did, that's sooo damn easy, haha, I'm so stupid.. :P

  • im growing my hair out for locks of love too! it makes me feel so happy that i'll be making someone happy :)

  • Dear Bobby, could you (or someone else ;) ) tell me what's happening after you added a "Levels" layer (from circa 11:26 to 12:40)?

I see that layer automatically gets the colors to black and white and you use it to paint "light" on Stitch.. But how? I couldn't figure out because when I click on that new "Levels" layer and start drawing nothing appears, nothing changes. :S

Oh please help me! I'm learning SO much, don't wanna stop now.. Thank yoouu! :D

  • @LillyBug333 Hi.

It seems Bobby really didn´t use that adjust layer, just went to check it the light of the nose of sticht, because after that he cancel the adjust layer, and probably just press de "D" key to switch the colors to black and white.

I hope answer ur question. :D

  • this is a great video. i love this painting and thank u for the advice =) and ive done sumthing like subway sketch, i invited to go to the museum in manhattan with my friends to draw. and soon i wanna go to the zoo too! =D

  • you actually brought a tear to my eye

  • Could someone please tell me which video bobby talks about getting work and uses the analogy of bait & fish?

  • very nice

  • I have the opposite view about the hair, u know. A couple of years back i had that long head-banger hair that used to pass my nipples. Then out of nowhere i just shaved my head now my hair is still rly short. That was kinda my way to say : You dont need to grow that long of a hair to be a Metal head if u dont feel rly confortable with it. And Metal is still my religieon but i feel free of a burden now ;)

  • IS THAT STICH!? i cant remember cause i have`nt seen this movie in so long

  • yeah... just going. just concentrating.. I'll remember.. Thanks for your inspiring with comment and drawing..!

  • how do you get your second window to be a smaller version of the original? I know how to make the second window, just not as small.

  • In Photoshop go to "New Window" somewhere in the menu system.

  • How do you get it to the smaller size?

  • thank for Digital Painting and Podcast

  • enjoyed this, great work, look forward to more...

  • i can't even tell it was stitch!

  • Cute!

  • its Stitch!

  • hi..you usea a photoshop?..i wait you answer..thanks. gracias..muy buen trabajo..

  • I have Question mister Chiu

you have two window open small and big

    how dose it work together?

how to set windows like that?

    please let me know

    thx

  • I am no Mister Chiu, but I believe I can answer :)

This is as far as I know a feature only available in Photoshop CS4. But you have your document, and on the top you have different layout specific buttons to the left. The second from the right, "Arrange Documents", in there you can press "new Window".

Now you have 2 tabs with the same document, and you can just click and drag the second one into it's own floater. And that's it.

    Hope it helps.

  • it is available in cs3 aswell and cs2. just wanted to make things clear^^

  • You're a true Artist, and i'm not just talking about beeing able to draw or painting well but, you can really touch others with your words. Thanks for sharing this!

Anyway, It would be cool to see a detailed tutorial of this Stitch, he's awesome =]

  • very cool Bobby :)

  • Great stuff!!!

  • dude, too bad i don't live in Toronto. Or i would attend the subway sketch group =p

  • you have realy pleasant voice)

  • IS that picture stich? from lilo and stich??

  • NO! : O OMG!

  • yes dude it is ... I <3 stich so cute that little monster!!! hes like elmo's cousin ^_^

  • W0W

    cute thing :D

  • this is great stuff, i wonder how do he manage to change opacity so quickly and what kind of parameters does the brush have? the way he works seems so... personal (to put it in some words) meaninng like, hes got everithing so well assigned to shortcuts..... i'm doing this next time!

(... but please tell me about the brush!)

  • Using a pressure-sensitive tablet pen, you can quickly change opacity by setting your brush to change opacity based on pen pressure. Most artists use tablets made by Wacom.

So, like, the harder you press, the higher the opacity is.

  • thats how mine is i have a wacom :D

  • man what did u use to paint like that , mouse ?? plz tell me what did u use

  • They used a Wacom Graphics tablet. Professionals don't use mice usually.

  • Yeah but (for me) its hard to get used to. I want a cintiq, but those things are SUPER expensive :(

  • I want a cintiq too. :c I hate the whole draw-while-looking-at-the-screen thing. D|

    Pencils are wonderful. XD

  • woah thats really cool!

  • Stich?

  • What software do you use? I would also like to know if it is Mac compatiple? Great job ;)

  • He uses PhotoShop its not free but you can do a free trail and if you like it you can buy it. Also it is Mac Compatible

  • Stitch?

  • wow!!!! hope that i can draw like that!!

  • wtf? u hope xD?

  • I've been watching your videos for a while, continuously experimenting with brushes and colors to get grip of this marvelous technique of yours.

Finally I've got it! I've got the sense of this sculpturing of shape with lo-flow brush, and it's amazing how shapes and volumes started to magically appear from my stylus! I was in nirvana while painting tonight, I am totally excited.

Thanks so much! ;) I'm not going to stop on this road. ))

  • what flow rate would you recomend????? I need help!!! please tell me some tips!!!!

  • you and me both man, but i cannot begin to say how helpful it was to watch this video. Two things I wish though: that he would say the exact tools he is using, and 2) for me to see the layers pallette so I can know when he uses a new layer. Other than that..........I thoroughly enjoyed this video and I WILL subscribe.

  • Wow!!This video is great, your digital painting is amazing and i was really inspired by the things you said about making the world a better place.

Thank you and have a great day too!!!

    : D

  • Thank you very much Bobby and hope you have a great day too.

  • yay someone actualy used the right colours its a dark dullish blue people .. unless you like the bright sky blue they use for the series

  • Absolutely marvelous. If I had just a fraction of the talent you possess...

  • marvelous! thank you Bobby!

  • wow!!! awesome!!!

  • How about putting an original up for auction on E-bay and give all profits to a different charity say every month or three months.

  • Why must you be in canada when I'm in the US? Lol I'd love to go to these sketchgroups, and that zoo one sounds promising. I'm in MN, though! maybe I can sneak by the border every weekend, haha!

  • You could do it anyway. Place an ad. It only needs to be a small one, in a local art store or sommat, then just go and do it once a week, and see if people join you. Go to somewhere like a subway, or just pick somewhere with life all around you. Parks are good too, especially towards summer.

  • i have a question....do you use a table to draw? and what photoshop do you use ou recommend? :)

  • Thanks for the vid!

I have no hair to grow... :-(

I grow plants from all seeds I get, from anything I eat. They are great gifts and I hope that by every fruit tree, berry bush, etc I grow can one day help feed many people. I have been doing this for over 6 years now.

PS I just planted another 400 fruit tree seeds the other day. Pears, Apples, grapes, Apricots, peaches, black berries, etc.

  • haha, hair donation. :D

Anyway, time to start a sketch group.

  • I am actually thinking about donating my hair too. I live in the states but I heard about this charity group called "Locks of Love" (they have a website) that makes wigs for sick children. I've been growing my hair out for eight months, and I'm going to shave it all off anyway once the hot summer months arrive, so I figure why not?

  • amazing art as usual, mr.chiu!

    ps cs4 rulz!

  • aw man

  • your podcast help me to be a good artist also help me to improve my english and to be good person. Thanks

  • the idea of taking initiative to do something for yourself reminds me of a line in batman begins when bruce was talking to alfred on the plane ride back to gotham: "people need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy." unfortunately there are too many people who aren't as inspired and motivated as those of us who have found a passion or an outlet for the negative things in our lives. but i do agree with you about thinking globally and acting locally.

  • thanks a ton dude inspirational stuff at its finest
