Rollo took Normandy around 909-912, William invaded England in 1066 (where he beat ANOTHER viking which ALSO had nothing to do with france).
The King you are talking about, was born in 1157 or almost a hundred years AFTER the viking showdown which the battle of Hastings really was.

@lakoweb You are able to recognize the different accent in French... you level must be really high, because the French accent and the accent from Belgium it's not a big difference, but you have a huge difference between the French accent from France and the French Canadian accent. the Switzerland accent is distinguish too
even in France we have many accent especially in the south it's quite different than the Parisian accent...the most funny French accent is from the western African countries.

je ne suis pas sur que ce soit des français. It's a trend I see that people often forget other country's contributions to wars, especially in the US. In both of the WWs, the US waited YEARS before going into battle. And in every war fought, American media makes a movie depicting that the Americans won. It's not surprising to see that the average American to have a cock-eyed view of at least one war.

Apparently Americans aren't the only ones with a cock-eye view of our role in World War, because it's also a trend that people tend to forget how we supplied weapons from the VERY BEGINNING to fight the Germans. We lost American lives when the supplies ships were sank by German submarines. So don't say we waited until the end to help out. If you think that was a minor contribution, I would have loved to see the German war machine being fought with just combat knives and probably some slingshots.

The bigger question is, why did they not stop Hitler earlier? And why did they not declare war on the Soviet Union who also invaded Poland? The Germans and then signed a pact and divided Poland up.

LOL. Hmmm the Soviet Union which was controlled by Russia btw entered the war in what year? 1941. Just how many years before the US did? WWI was never our fight and we may had been in it earlier if we had gotten the respect of say England and France who only wanted us to send bodies to fill THEIR armies with. We had been losing merchant sailors to u-boats which the govt covered up but we were attacked by Japan and we declared war when this occurred so why should we had earlier?
