  • VERY nicely done

  • EJs a very shy guitar player, a paragon of control on stage and some songs require LETTING GO, this being one.He obviously loves Jimi though, but won't use the way and high freq cut a strat is capable of, his sound is uniformly round while Jimi's had edges.

  • This guy is dull. He has no soul

  • I like EJ..but his voice is pretty week, and he plays so refined that his rendition of this tune lacks the power it deserves.

  • I like how he always, mostly uses vintage gear. Badass!!!

  • "I know what I want, but I just don't know how to go about getting it."

  • No one can capture the energy Hendrix had in his music. This sounds flat and boring.

  • @l2string True - nobody can really duplicate Jimi's energy, but on the Stone Free tribute album, Seal and Jeff Beck really rip the doors off this song. Worth a listen. Seal knows a thing or too about depression, and Jeff, well, enough said.

  • Stevie Ray performed this with much more grit and soul. The guy is a great guitar player but.........

  • @romienomie I totally agree, however E.J. plays much cleaner and vocally projects the lyrics much better than either Hendrix or SRV....all are great and love all the versions!

  • I hate to hate on EJ but he sounds so sterile here...this lacks the balls, grit, and passion that Jimi brought. I could careless how flawless it was. EJ's tone sucks for this song too...muddy with no edge or presence to cut through the mix. Don't get me wrong, I love EJ, but this 3/4 groove setting isn't the best for his style of chops.

  • @jgator87 I agree with you fully... great guitarist no doubt, but his playing of this song is like watered down syrup.. sweet nevertheless but not just not as smooth.. A better cover of this song is what Ernie Isley did with it in the past Experience Hendrix tours.

  • The man has no mojo whatsoever and his rhythm sound like he has spent too long practising with a metronome and not a drummer.

  • i agree with the other people on here.erics fantastic, but it sounds too clinical not raw like jimi.i know thats not easy but it has to be taken into acount when you do a jimi cover.otherwise it could just be a bar band.it should be freaking and it just plods.i like stevie rays version.much more fire!

  • as much as I love Eric, if youre going to cover a hendrix song, you gotta bring the thunder and come out roaring and eric is WAY too chill. my favorite hendrix covers are when the guitar player is bouncing around, hes abusing the shit out of his axe and the band is LOUD. like I said, I love eric, but he didnt start rocking till the end. even then it seems like he knows the sheet music too well for it to be a jimi song

  • @griffinmpable I agree..I like Johnson also..but no "fire" on the melody riff..no finger vibrato on the riff.. definitely sounds like he's reading sheet music..

  • Thank you, gromsh*t. It's an honor to hear from you. Few people have the distinction of being so aptly named.

  • El bajista es Chris Maresh

  • Excellent rendition.

  • ¿ Quien es el bajista y el baterista?

  • ej makes it his own? He's certainly an apt pupil here but please! He's just a student guitarist compared to Jimi.

Jimi would smile, he loved everybody's playing because he was such a kind and gentle man, but Mr. Johnson does not put this over at all. Shame on you.

  • @hartfordarmory Youre a moron.

  • @mic4559 You mean world class players like Frank Marino, SRV (r.i.p.) Steve Vai, Randy Hansen, Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Paul Gilbert...etc should have never covered Jimi Hendrix's tunes because they're caucasian? I guess that would be because they could never accomplish the same statement that a black man could :/ Sounds pretty racist to me. Here's a clue, Hendrix played some pretty crappy versions of his own songs live. Go check out EJ's version of Are U Experienced? Live on ACL

  • Sorry, It's Just not the same with sober technicians marching through the genius of Jimmy's drug induced spirit.

  • @MarshalHilton drugs are great!

  • @MarshalHilton , Sober technicians indeed. Precisely.

  • EVEN FOR JOHNSON-LIKE ME--THIS SOLO IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPRODUCE NOTE FOR NOTE--**JOE T-ENGLISHBLUESMAN**

  • hot

  • awesome ..I keep playing this one over and over ....perfect !

  • ej makes it his own :D jimi would smile...

  • nice cover

  • One of the most underated guitarists of our day and I will see him at the Experience Hendrix tour in 15 days.

  • @TomOwenM I know what you mean D= Hes by far my favorite guitar player =D

  • @tippy400 You know what brother, unfortunately many do not know of his work, and for many they regard him as underated. His technical abilities are unfathomable. I read an article stating that he currently has 400 songs recorded and he will not release them because he doesn't view them as perfect. I met him and he was incredibly humble as a musician. He took time to talk to me. Jonny Lang is the same way. All the Best! Tommy.

  • @TomOwenM Man, your really lucky xD I play guitar but I'm noot good enough to even be watching here on youtube in comparasin. but man what I wouldent give to get there up on stage with him and play bass xD

    (I normaly play bass)
