iron tower sounds like great fun, keep it comming ^^, but I have to agree with Azartusfar, I'm also surprised that the sorcerer lived trough all of this, even though on the edge of death. As for traps, I would propable stick with the trap style that every trap would only harm an intruder: stairs were if you don't skip always one step it will become a ramp and PCs sliding down, mechanic Butlers that if you don't say something like "Bring me my Robe, etc." will attack...stuff like that.
@Tschenggo The sorcerer was very close, but has quite a lot of HP for his class (good dice rolls) and the player did think fast. That and the damage I rolled wasn't as good as it could have been. It was luck either way.
I definitely want the traps to have a function other than as a trap. This tower is a factory of sorts as well as a tall dungeon.
@Azartusfar Indeed! Me too. He was touch and go but the player explained in short order exactly what he intended to do, so I had to reward his quick-thinking.
Yea I just read an episode on that by John Wick, quick thinking players I mean. He told of this one cyber punk campaign where the corporation put bombs in their heads and each hour one of the bombs detonated so they had to work quick to get to the antidote.
Have one of the party (or maybe one of the OTHER party that came in after?) Trapped in a clear metallic cylinder with two buttons on the bottom. Two golems are nearby. A magic mouth informs the party that one button will release the prisoner, the other will kill him (and maybe also release a door catch or something). One of the golems always tells the truth, one of them always lies. They may ask one golem one question before having to choose a button.
@ScreamingDoom One method to solve it is to ask one golem what the OTHER golem would say is the release button. If it is the truthful golem, it will chose the button that isn't the release button. If it is the lying golem, it will still choose the button that isn't the release button because it has to lie about what the truthful golem would say.
You have metal cubes, why not some metal spheres, like the things from the Phantasm series?
I could see a room that has a haphazard grid of thin razor wire throughout it. Unless someone knew it was there, the only indication would be the faint glint the wires gave off. It's kinda similiar to the coathangers, though.
The tower needs a luxurious metal bathroom, with like a spa and such (heated by the magma pipes). Have something that can eletrocute people if they are not able to cast a spell.
@ScreamingDoom One of the new ones with the Master in it. The toclafane (I think they were called) were floating metallic spheres with various razors, drills and whatnot inside them.
@clackclickbang Oh yes. I think I remember that. Wasn't that the one where the Doctor manages to win by getting the entire world to *pray to him* or something?
I have to admit, that was pretty lame.
I actually never made the connection between the Toclophane (or whatever) and Phantasm, but you're right, they are total ripoffs. Right down to having human brains be the CPUs inside!
Well, since you have already established an extremely scientific mind behind this particular tower, something based on light, lasers or color patterns could prove interesting.
17:23 is really good because you make sure we don't misunderstand you.

just a little funny part if any of you guys missed it

I'll have you know that there are no official Pathfinder Rules for surfing. GM *fail*!
This has been your pedantic Rules Lawyering for the day.
I think I might do a trap video. And not the Thai lady-boy variety.

@tetsubo57 I create my own rules! For I am god!

A logic puzzle is also nice:
Have one of the party (or maybe one of the OTHER party that came in after?) Trapped in a clear metallic cylinder with two buttons on the bottom. Two golems are nearby. A magic mouth informs the party that one button will release the prisoner, the other will kill him (and maybe also release a door catch or something). @ScreamingDoom Well exactly! Everyone knows that one.

@ScreamingDoom I like the trapped cylinder though.. I will adapt it, but I don't think I'll use the lying golem trick.

@ScreamingDoom Excellent idea! I just worry someone will think I'm ripping off that awful Doctor Who episode that ripped off Phantasm though.
The razor wire is very Cube. I vote yes on that. Likewise with the spa. It makes sense for the Tower's owner to have a place to relax and revive.

@clackclickbang There's a Doctor Who episode that ripped off Phantasm? This I did not know!

@Iyldruin Lasers may be a little too sci-fi. I'm thinking mechanical; cogs and gears and whatnot. Electric circuitry would also work.
A light-based trap could be good though...
