  • There's a french quote I love : "There is, in Art, a category of superior joys, so deep and so high, that one is forever indebted to the one that provided it to you" -- Sacha Guitry. That is the definition of being fan, to me. And that's the reason why I'm fan of Jeff Buckley.

  • /watch?v=A-FanyaikAg

  • Dylan's untouchable, but even he can't touch this cover. Sorry.

  • Jeff had a good Dad also

  • Jeff had a good Dad also

  • Bagus.!!!!

  • this is beautiful, bob should be proud

  • Beautiful

  • oh my. that's amazing... so TRUE!

  • Let me start by saying, I LOVE Bob Dylan, but Buckley's 'Just Like A Woman' > Dylan's.

  • @RonaldHyatt I'd suggest to listen to the version he does over the phone. Frankly it was pretty damn good. While I always loved Dylan's writing, I was never one for his singing. Buckley on the other hand....

  • I love this cover. But it is increasingly frustrating trying to learn it by ear when his guitar isnt tuned to a definite pitch. Staring chord is literally half way in between Ab and A.

  • Something tells me that Jeff had heard the 'genuine basement tapes'-version of this song. I think he was also quite influenced by The Band. I hear a bit of Richard Manuel in his voice, and also a bit of Robbie Robertson in his guitar sound.

Anyway, this is my favorite version of the song, along with the basement version and the one from "Last Waltz".

  • @RonaldHyatt It's a live gig in a cafe. These gigs of his could be playful, off the cuff & hit & miss. All in one at times.

  • srry coming from a huge dylan and buckley fan, if sony didnt go hunting for dylans songs, we would be crediting this as an amazing cover

  • I don't know, people trying to bring the mood down on YouTube are as insignificant as a pin drop but sometimes a pin drop sounds like someone screaming in fucking your ear.

  • If I was Dylan I would be really proud!

  • This is my personal favorite but I'm very biased to everything Buckley did... There are a TON of great covers of this song... Joe Cocker, The Band, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Jerry Garcia.... so many people have covered this song well.

  • @JustyJ312 You aren't alone in your bias. I'm fairly convinced Jeff Buckley is the embodiment of King Midas.

  • @stopfensocken Yeh cool wotever, each to they're own is what i say, if that is truely your opinion, and not a defiant remark for the sake of it, than i have to admire that you would state that,, i imagine that would be a lonely group you in that would feel the same way... who could deny Hendrix?... or me ... lol just kidding hahahahahaha

  • @ everyone but dylans voice is no good! unlike jeff who has an amazing voice!

  • sorry but listen to live dylan next to buckley. can really say dylan sounds better

  • fucking brilliant song, from a brilliant songwriter, sung by a brilliant musician who was taken too soon.

  • Angel's voice....

  • We miss you, Jeff.

  • Tim was a fellow folk hero and rival and peer and fan.. of bob dylan. when Bob met jeff backstage one time jeff was ever so humbled that bob would take tha time for lil ol him.. it obviously speaks volumes of recognition and appreciation of Tim by bob but what it facinating is that jeff felt unworthy.. impossible.. haha if anything im sure bob felt exactly the same way when he was told the son of legend Tim buckley was waiting for him backstage and was waitin to say hi as a fan. jeff's letter

  • Dylan's version is by far the best, because it's his song and the passion of his voice is amazing. His songs are the best and he has better versions than most who cover his songs.

  • @zielinski14 True. True.

But sometimes it's easier to get into the originals by listening to covers.

    Especially in dylans issue.

Anyway, after a while it always ends in "dylans version = best version", like knocking on heavens door, hattie carrol, i'll be your baby tonight ;) etc etc.

Except of Jokerman by Caetano Veloso, which is, imho, by far the best cover of a bob dylan song i know..

  • @stopfensocken what about All along the watchtower? Hendrix's cover is better than the original one by far...

  • @karlowski Then you've never really listened to the original, have you. Dylan's understated version highlights much more effectively the imagery of the words. No on sings Dylan like Dylan!!

  • @workingmansblues I did mate. I didn't say it was a bad song when Dylan created it. I just said Jimi's cover is better by far, which means Hendrix was terrific 'cause it's almost impossible make a good cover of Dylan... It's a matter of taste I guess but Hendrix uploaded that song to another level. Good song anyway isn't it?

  • @karlowski You're right about Hendrix taking the song to another level. And it's true that it's effective in that it makes you almost forget the original version. So I'm not going to argue the point with someone who obviously likes the kind of music I like. Hang in there karlowski.

  • @zielinski14 HAHA yeh except for "all along the watchtower" bob dylan wrote it but man, we all gotta agree jimi owned it. just like cohen wrote hallelujah but jeff certainly took it to the world and sang like it was his..every other cover of that song pales in comparrison and yes i am biased and you know wot? i dont give a shit. i know im rite.

  • @zielinski14 I can't really argue this because that's what I always think when people try to cover Buckley's original songs. No one sings something quite like the original writer.

But obviously I'm a huge Buckley fan and I think he really captures the spirit of the song.

  • @zielinski14 He has better versions, then all the covers.

  • @zielinski14 come on man you know HOW bob d. sings whether recorded in studio and live performance. i don't really like the latter, while the former is at least tolerable..his songs are best interpreted by artists who REALLY adore his songs..

  • I hear some Jimi Hendrix influence in Jeff's playing here. Love the leaps in his voice from quiet tenderness to powerful chest vibrato. Magical.

  • i think I've replayed this 20 times in a row by now.

  • has anyone heard Joe Cocker's version ? it's really heart felt. try it.

    l

  • Jeff Buck was an incredibly talented guy and this is a nice version (His version of "Hallelujah" is hauntingly masterful).

Still, in my humble opinion, the best versions of this tune are when it is performed by Richard Manuel and The Band. Manuel's voice was a thing to be reckoned with, sheesh. Dylan wrote such a simple, elegant masterpiece with the song regardless of who's taking it on.

  • this is a beautiful rendition of this absoluuttleey amazing song. The real genius behind this will always lie with dylan, though, who else could possibly write a song that can simply never sound less than fantastic?

  • @Oohanzy185oO without bob this song wouldn't exist.....

  • *sigh*....Thanks for YOU, Jeff.

  • jack johnson sang the same song =D i like all of them (jack johnsons was the best) but without bob or jeff he might never of sang it so i <3 all of them

  • @Oohanzy185oO jack johnson? really?

  • @gaylefranklin yes really

  • Comment removed

  • @gaylefranklin lol jack johnson sucks ass=D

  • @ablindboygrunt hahahaha....yes, he really does

  • @gaylefranklin yes really ^^

  • Dylan is one of the best songwriters ever and Buckley was one of the most gifted singers ever, this is a perfect combination.

  • when a soul falls apart, asong can lift up the broken soul, lets lift each other and together we can make this world a better place

  • wow

  • This is so beautiful and Jeff is so beautiful. Can't live a day without his music

  • When I saw him live in Australia many years ago, he did a jaw dropping version of "Just Like A Woman".

This is stunning. Always loved "I Shall Be Released". One of my all time Dylan songs.

  • HOLY SHIZZBAGHOLDERS

MY TWO FAVOURITE ARTISTS EVER DYLAN AND BUCKLEY

I Might Just Go And Cry To This

  • great.

  • pumpin tune

  • Jeff really loved Dylan songs apparently.. he also did Mama you been on my mind.. which kicks a lot of ass.

  • Personally I like listening to Jeff;s versions better. Dylan wrote some of the most amazing lyrics in history, and even though his strained, unfiltered voice played a roll in creating the emotion of his music at the time, I feel like Buckley took the lyrics and truly made them come alive.

  • @Bulldog22031 Sounds like you haven't heard Dylan's version of this in recent times. It cannot be touched--"strained" voice and all! No, Bob did just what he wanted to do with his voice for this amazing song--added harmony too--not to mention the phenomenal instrumentation.

  • @lustre5 uhm, I don't have to recently hear dylans version to know what it sounds like. I love Dylans version, but I just think Buckley's is better.

  • @TheOneWhoSings1

yeah, he did like a woman too, that song is just beautiful

  • beautiful

  • What a beautiful voice! His music makes my days so much brighter

  • Totally quote. One of the greatest ARTIST in the whole history.

  • dear jeff, we love you, from everyone with ears.

  • @jokekneesociety and heart.
