  • aside from the horrific singing talent, i love the humor

  • brouseppi, thanks for this video. i built up two velocity a23s with white hubs this week using this vid.

  • Ferris Bueller gives just enough information to waste some spokes.

  • Just bought an older Jamis Dakota (1992/93/not sure $40). I want to put new rims on. Can I save the rear cassette and spokes and replace the rims? Any help appreciated. 8D

  • I've built maybe 5 wheels now, over 4 years, and I always have this on in the background to see me right.

I'm gonna go right ahead and say, this guide works for any amount of spoke holes, so long as you're all set for 3-cross lacing. I've just finished a 32 hole wheel now, in fact!

  • i don't know any of the other users watching this but.. i thought the tube flange was sexy as hell hahah (=

  • And congratualtions !, you just showed us how to incorrectly lace a wheel. Christ do i have to make my own frekkin video on this subject to set shit straight?

  • @Aleowiciuos please, do

  • @Aleowiciuos and if u can, please do it in like the next couple of days, thank you very much.

  • @thebiketube im not gay but you look cool man !

  • Thanks for posting this most informative video.

A friend of mine wich i borrowed by beautiful bike to, trashes 2 spokes and the hub.

With help from this video i was able to fix it myself and save me a lot of money.

BTW, hee is no longer a friend, he didn't pay for the damadge.

It was way harder that it looked on video though. :)

  • very informative but kinda sounds like a porn video from time to time:

"can you show us those holes? yeah, just like that"

  • I want to change the spokes on my wheels. Do I have to unlace the whole wheel and start fresh or can I do one spoke at a time? Hope you can advise me on this. Thanks

  • tube flange

  • do you guys have a video for a 48 spoke?

  • Thanks for posting this, with your help I have been able to fit a rear hub that I stripped from an old scrap wheel and rescue a bike that I thought was beyond economical repair.

  • You didn't cover "handedness" or how that effects which way you go with the spoke holes being slightly off-centered. This makes a difference in which way you start the leading and following spokes. Does this rim have all centered spoke holes without any offset?

  • dang this takes time i feel sorry for the people that spoke lowrider bike wheels

  • At 2:22 it kinda looks like Sputnik. The Russian thingy that started the space race. Anywho, this is much too time consuming and looks too difficult for me. But I guess if I was unemployed I would consider it when not consuming massive amounts of sugary cereal: coco puffs, fruit loops, ect.

  • Can u please do one where u unlace it

  • spokes is one thing that sucks nowadays...it's hard to get high quality stainless steel spokes....unlike the old days

  • Yo dude

Is it still skip 3 even if it's a wheel with less than 36 spokes?

  • Fuck this retard is painful to listen too. I hate arseholes on youtube who like the sound of their own voice so much they make an 8min video that should have lasted 3 mins. Poin Dexter

  • @eaxnitro totally agree. fantastic cure for anyone that suffers from insomnia. throw all the pieces in the middle of the floor, mount the camera directly above the project, don't say a word and lace the fuckin thing. a person would learn ten times as much if he didn't have to listen to the constant backtrack babble all the time. don't explain what it is that you're attempting to do....just do it.

  • @eaxnitro Another dipshit who doesn't know how to be thankful. Go make your own video, then. Almost nothing is free in this world, so when something free does come along you should be grateful, you pathetic worm.

  • The lacing pattern that you show in this video will result in spokes crossing in front of the valve hole.

In order to orient the valve hole between two parallel spokes, the second course of inbound spokes should place the 2nd key spoke one hole away from the valve hole, not across it.

  • or you ca put neo tape so you kan know weir to start

  • Modern art kicks ass... get it rigt!!!

  • Modern art kicks ass!!!

  • u helped a lot dude! Thanks!

  • Very good!!!

    Valeu cara muito bom!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • videos are awsome dude.. im 19 and thinkin of buildin my own first 24" wheel trials bike... this will be a big help :]

  • What brand of spokes were you using in this video?! They look so shiny and reflective!

  • "it landed in the taint"! i love this vid.

  • Lol at 1:33, you look like Craig Pullin(The Serial Killer) off of Reno 911. Lol or just the serial killer off of The Lovely Bones. Lol Lol Lol

  • Right in the Taint!

  • nice vid, but cut off the first 1min

  • You make it look so easy. My spokes on my rim are laced differently. It's like 2 spokes a space equivalent to 2 spokes, then 2 more and so on. It's kinda hard to explain. I'll make a video response so you know what I'm talking about. :)

  • lol at 3:13

  • i found this really help full thanks guys!!

  • LOL Easy peezy japaneezy LOL

  • 5:12 ahh shit ahhahahahaha

  • what are you doing, three cross? four cross?

  • I'm trying to rebuild the back wheel on my bmx bike, and I either have the wrong spoke length or I'm not figuring out the pattern of the spokes right.... I went every 5 holes.... is the pattern for all rims every 4 holes?

  • @Nofear210 every 3 holes. insert spoke on 4th hole.

  • @TheGizmo4382 thanks

  • that guy pisses me off !

  • HUM AJUDA D+

  • Oh man.... DEM PEDOPHILE GLASSES.

  • if u want do do it safe, dont use glasses, just be sure u can handle the screwdriver

    WHHAAHAHHAAHAHAH

  • thanks for the vid it helped a lot. its not the truest wheel set in the world but its better dan payin a bike shop €80 two wheel builds

  • right in the taint

  • Hi

How long spokes needed to built this wheel? I mean 3cross or 4cross or something else?

    thx

  • you look exactly like the guy who played the dean in the movie ''Old School''

  • look at my wheel i built with this tutorial! in video responses! xD

  • i have a 48 holed rim and i really like it

but i dont want the extra weigt,

is it possible just to use a 36 hub

and only spoke up 36 of the 48 holes?

  • no its not. that will compromise the integrity of the wheel

  • This shit doesnt make any sence ! I watched this video like 8 1/2 times and all I ended up building was a headache and a burrito. youre gay and I want you though. were are you jimmy? WHERE ARE YOUR!!!

  • It also helps if you wear a jock strap. I do and my wheels come out perfect. You obviously don't.

  • right in the taint !

  • Thank you master James!

Your "just behind" on side two proved to be a pitfall for me lacing a 32 spoke MTB rim... I went the wrong way, but didn't find out before completing step3... The wrongly laced spokes suddenly seemed too long! Start over!!!

    Confidence inspiring nonetheless.

    Many thanks!

  • HAHAHA build all my own wheels & Been there done that also went to swop roms over on (put the damaged 1 on the back) front was 32 spoke & rear was 36 holes ffs, didnt work it out till i realised i was 4 holes short, wasnt i cursing LMAO never done it again eazy once ya screw up a few times & learn what NOT to do, now my wheels stay true

  • tube flange roflol

  • This is one the greatest "how to" simply because it is funny as well as instructional. jaja

    The :

    "oh shit!"

    The glasses

    the "I am genetically perfect"

    they all crack me up.

I do believe some previous knowledge of bike terms and concepts is necessary to some degree to fully make sense of everything explained here, but generally it is pretty simple and well explained. The different camera views of the rim help a lot.

  • lube them nips

  • how many holes do you count for a 32?

  • Right in da taint lol

  • Right in the taint!

  • "hole in the middle? whats the deal??"

and i heard joe in the background, way to ruin the 4th wall!

    "Oh shit!!!" hahahaha

  • Imagine doing this for living. You'd have to go nuts!

  • tube flange loL i did a tail whip on my bmx and my foot stamped on all the spokes in the back wheel and bent them all then i had to take em all out and on the last one it would not un-do so i tryed bending it like back and fourth and did not work so i grabed it and it burned my hand and the i tryed cuting it off wid a saw and it sliped off the spoke and cut my burn and some yellow shit came out loL so now i cant ride for a while owell i got youtube

  • WOW

    That's a story!

  • damn lol

  • lol at 5:15 '' WHOA SHIT'' made me crack up hahaha

  • omg i feel you man. hahaa i cant stop laughing haha

  • you're a big silly

  • kurva jó! thanx!

  • oh yeah! screwing nipples all day long!

  • man nipples

  • Not sure what drugs the fruitloop below my comment is on, but this is possibly the best video on the whole of Youtube on the black art of wheel building. Well done - very informative :-)

  • my bad 36h

  • Can you use this for a 35h bmx wheel?

  • thanks for the video, hopefully its gonna come in handy quite soon. Is it in any way cheaper to make your own wheels?

  • No one on Youtube has showed how to lace a "Cruiser Wheel". they are laced different than this, can you do a video on Cruiser wheels?

  • i'm trying to find some time this summer to get some different types of wheel vids up... I'd love to quit my real job and do these, but right now i'd never find another one....

  • i carnt do the spoke calculator thing i dont want all the sizes are

  • 5:16 haha!

  • I initially thought everything (including the complementary accessories of the wheel(s)) were to be built or designed from the scratch. Aint that supposed to be?

  • Hi,

I'm building a 32 hole wheel and was wondering how many holes would I need to skip between each spoke on the rim?

    Thanks.

  • I'm wondering the same thing please help us out

  • its the same i think the only diff is less spokes but still same holes to skip

  • @spikeyhairdude888: The answer is always four, independent of the number of spokes because the two hub flanges have four sides.that the spokes enter through.

  • hi JAMES

  • why don't u guys make a video on how to build a 48 hole rim. i need that.

  • really appreciate you creating this video. i have recently developed and interest in refurbishing an old road bike, and you tube has been a great source! thanks a lot!

  • yo talk to much bwi

  • It's Haley Joel Osment building wheels! Great vids!

  • awesome set of videos, really detailled and methodical!

  • I'm pretty sure our goal wasn't to entertain, but to inform

  • thanks i was building a rim as i listened

    thanks for the good info

    +10000000

  • @thebiketube Didn't you know all youtube videos must also be entertaining?

  • You're awesome man ! Thank for the tips !

sorry for my english i know i suck :P

  • does this wheel lacing work the same with 20inch bmx rims

  • if it's a 36 spoke wheel it does

  • thanks mate, this dude is fuuny but the thay he tolds every thing its so simple its the best video of wheel lacing

  • Could you explain why it matters what hole you start on when you start putting spokes in the second side of the hub?

  • To be honest, most of the time, it doesnt matter where you start, but it does matter how the spokes line up relative to the opposite side. We only pick a reference point to simplify the task, When it does matter is when you have a rim with nipple holes that are not in the center of the rim in which case 99% of the time our method will work. Point being the holes that are skewed to right of center will line up with the right side flange and so on. Hope that helps.

  • @mar504 it matters from the point of view that you want the 'groups' of spokes to be either side of the valve, so you have more room for a pump. I messed this up on a 4 cross bmx wheel and curse it every time I need to pump it up.

  • "right in the taint" Hilarious. This video is great, and I now see I don't need any bullshit tools to build a wheel myself. So, thank you.

  • should of gone to specsavers..... yes im sad.
