a snaffle bit will NOT hurt a horse if used appropriately. a stronger bit may well do if it isn't used well but a snaffle? rarely.

for example. if i was riding in a fenced field next to a main road and i fell off, i would rather hang on to the reins and keep the horse than let go and give the horse the opportunity to possibly jump the fence and get run over.

i always fall off at times like this! hahaha well funny. :)

You don't know that the horse couldn't step into it's reins and break a leg, do you. If you hold onto the reins you can usually swing yourself around into a better position of the fall. That way you wouldn't get ran over either. lol

I would rather rip out my horses mouth than have to chase it back to the barn. It won't really hurt them.

the horse only swerved to the right a bit, if i was you i would really work on your balance. take away stirrups when you ride it helps balance and your legs become stronger. you wouldnt want to keep falling of now would you. :)
