It would help you understand why you can never expect the NDP to end prohibition if you watch the video created by Mr. Paul McKeever entittled "The Principle of Pot".
It is the story of Marc's activism, not only against the ban on Pot, but all the prohibitions against different peaceful consensual choices you or your neighbour might make.
Layton has definitely changed his stance if he ever had one on marijuana. He definitely did not do a thing to save Marc from extradition, he didn't even draw attention to it. Layton is just another political tool! Prove me wrong Layton!
Actually the federal NDP has issued multiple statements in support of Marc Emery and against his extradition. NDP Deputy Leader and Drug Policy Critic Libby Davies even recently personally interviewed Marc Emery for Rabble.
@420MrMuggles The last thing the Federal NDP sent me was a pamphlet demanding that flavoured rolling papers be banned in Canada, in order to "save the children". They love being on both sides of every issue.
@sefrzan There's nothing he can do, being a protest leader won't get you anywhere in politics. As we seen with Harper, it's better to hide your true agenda with Canadians unfortunately. So yeah Layton has to keep this support at the wayside, at least until he's leader of Canada. Then he can introduce bills and have the number of seats to pass them. We know what happens if he supports legalization. Conservatives turn it into "Layton wants to legalize all drugs and give them to our children too".
Former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer, who ran anti-drugs ads against the NDP in the last federal election, is facing charges for drunk driving and cocaine possession. He was the only Conservative who lost his seat in Alberta in the last federal election.
What does that tell you about the political climate for the reform of our marijuana laws? I love this story.
Sad that this was in 2003 and cannabis is still not legalized
