I could never have imagined that i would get to hear the theme from the Adventurer, since that show such a little flash in the pan. But that theme, along with the theme from The Persuaders - also by John Barry - has remained my favorite for years.
The melancholy, almost yearning, quality of both these themes (The Persuaders, The Adventurer) was a hallmark of John Barry and his penchant for composing in minor keys. RIP John Barry.
Wish Itv4 Would show this Show....The Persuaders/The Protectors/Minder/The Equalizer/Chips And The Adventurer...What A line Up.....You Cant Beat John Barry Music....Fantastic.....Gene Barry Is The Sugar Daddy!!! Fair Play To Him...
The Adventurer was a tv series in 1972 it starred Gene Barry as a film star Gene Bradley who was also a double agent spy for Mr Parminter (the unforgettable Barry Morse) it also starred the beautiful Catherine Schell as Diane Marsh theyre were only 24 programmes made as it was a ratings disaster the only decent thing was John Barrys theme
Fuckin hell ! , great edit too ! as he casually drops slowly down from danger a different man once the cars 'gone by' ! Ha ha . This is one of the less successful ITC ones isnt it ? Star looks a bit too old & breathless to be fighting 3 guys with guns at once ! Some cracking office equipment in there tho eh ?
Don't like the slower version at all. The faster one has always fascinated me. Love that buzzing synth and the Italian melody. It's like the Persuaders and these two tunes have stuck with me since I heard them at about 2 or 3.
The lead character-did he star in a 1974 series where he escaped from being imprisoned, to catch up each week with his jailers? Dying to know what that was. Anyone?
hard to know if the speed of the film makes the soundtrack sound different........matching up soundtracks from cds to film ones i have noticed this. Patrick Mcgoohan starred in the prisoner and i think that was the show you were thinking of.......but that was from 1967.
@Pulsar205, yes you never forget them, i was about the same age... later in my years as i grew to like music that mysterious analog sound always haunted me, finding them again is like time travel with a familiar yet unbelievable lesson in how time really flies, but they are amazing and we seek them for that reason, wonderful.
superbe magique souvenirs d'enfance. musicalement magistral, merci monsieur barry john.. pour ces instants qui resteront toujours dans ma mémoire merci merci

Yer I know every 1960's series that there was to know, I thought I was every one of the bloody characters!
This the rest, in order of influence on me and how I finished up as some mixed up wanna be.
Guy williams (proffesor john robinson, from lost in space)
Richard bradford Mc Gill from "Man in a suitcase"
Mike Connors, Mannix , Kenneth Haigh ,
Joe lampton from "man at the top"
Patrick Macgoohan, from the prisoner,
Gene Barry, the adventurer, mix them up and you have me
