  • I'm sorry to say but I don't think this is Irish Step dancing, I have been doing it for more that 9 years now and that is way to free and you legs are way out when an Irish step dancer must be tight. Hope this helps!

  • @irishdancer60 Um... who said it was Irish step dancing?

  • i luv it my bff does the same and it is amazin!

  • you're really good :) ive been dancing for 11 years and love it!

  • Brilliant - I love this.

    Are there any instructional DVD's?

  • WOW!! that is really all I can say...just wow!

  • You mentioned that you teach , any chance you have a DVD for people like me who would love to take your class but live too far away ? ( Florida)

I would buy it in a heartbeat and I am sure I would not be the only one.

    Please.............................

  • I'm one of those "Holy irish elitists", but I gotta say, this is pretty cool! I really like the freedom and joy in it :)

Irish is all about skill, not necessarily enjoyment (though you should love what you do!) but here you can really see how much you enjoy it.

    ROCK ON!

  • Cool--how did you make your floor? I find vinyl flooring too slippery.

  • hey, awesome vid. it's Tyler by the way lol, put that crazy accapello # by u and Ariel on here lol

  • this is so cool and looks like a lot of fun!!

  • This is totally cool and impressive!!! I have been dancing for many years and just started clogging-- this has some similarities.

Anyways thank you for sharing!! :-)

  • This was the first video that I ever favorited. And I think it's still my favorite video.

  • W.O.W.

    :o

    That was awesome (: x

  • There is no turn out in stepdancing because it's so free and you can do whatever you like. It's not like irish dancing where it's so strict and there are so many rules. That's why it's the BEST!! So leave her alone please!

  • Thanks! :)

  • very well done just work on crossing and turnout. and for you next video turn off auto focus

  • that was amazing. =]

  • Awesome dancing!! I luv it!!

  • my bad wrong name Rebecca

  • Emily Y?

  • thats the one

  • Nice! The cool thing about watchin this video is that I know the person who's doing it great job Emily!

  • you rule!

don't let any hoity-toity stuck up competitive irish dancer freaks tell you otherwise.

man, most of those irish dancers don't get what this is all about.......

  • Hahaha thanks! Do I know you?

  • you're welcome ;)

no you don't know me. I just get so disgusted by the attitude of these psycho Irish Dancers.

Anyway, I think Ottawa Valley and Cape Breton styles are waaaaay cooler. The dancers are * gasp * having fun!

I'd rather watch you or the Pilatzke brothers any day over some teenager in a dress that looks like she threw up the Book of Kells all over herself ;)

  • Hahaha oh my my! Yeah I agree completely! And you know Nathan and Jon! That's awesome. When I was younger they were like my heroes haha. They're great guys. Anyway thanks for the kind words! Haha see ya.

  • LOL well I don't know them personally, just of them. but yeah. fun dancers. super talented.

Do these IrishDanceFascists really think that 100 years ago any average kitchen party was about who had the best butterfly????

gah! drives me nuts. anyway, keep it up. you're awesome.

  • I know what you mean. I'm an Irish Dancer but I do other forms of dance as well and I get so annoyed when people think that the type of dance they do is the only form their is and that whatever technique they use in their dance has to apply to other dances as well. I'm not saying its just Irish dancers who do this because I know a lot of ballet, tap, jazz etc. dancers who do it too.

  • oh absolutely. It does extend to all forms of dance.

and honestly, all forms of anything ;)

  • Hi. I'm one of those "hoity-toity stuck up competitive irish dancer freaks." lol. I'm sorry a few people decided to get on here and bash something they don't really know about, but there's some of those for just about everything. Including dance. I know what it looks like, but try not to judge the majority by the few... that rocked and it looked like a lot of fun! haha. Just love the dance and brush the haters.

  • hey lady - I'm one of the people that was in the discussion on here about the "snooty" Irish dancers. I totally agree with what you were saying in this. I also should point out that one of my best friends runs a local Irish dance school, so yeah I know that not all Irish dancers are jackasses. Good to hear another opinion from a sane person :)

  • Hey child, get off the interface

  • that was great!!!

    i love step dance!

  • Wow !!! :) That was totally amazing ! We love step dancing, Cape Breton style is what we're mostly used to, this is fabulous! Keep up the great work ! and thanks for posting the video !!

  • Well done... Great timing! I love the video!

  • i love ottawa valley step dancing...its awesome...

  • hey jdl50291,

hes not turning out because its not the style hes going for... am i rite tappytoes13? btw luvv that toe spin.

  • sorry, but thats not irish dancing, i've never seen an irish dancer who doesn't cross or turn out their feet deliberately, AWESOME beats, but TERRIBLEEEEEE placement, that was tap, not irish dance.

  • Wow... these comments are so interesting to read. And whoever you are dkd24... you are very cool... and you actually know what you're talking about! Haha which is great! No one seems to understand that it's OTTAWA VALLEY!! Holy moly. Anyway thanks a lot! Bye!

  • And leave my left foot alone.. JESUS!

  • oh but tappytoes, irish daning is the ONLY THING IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!! GOD ARE YOU STUPID OR SOMETHING??????

AND PUT YOUR FECKIN' ARMS DOWN!!!! YOU'LL NEVER WIN A FEIS ACTING LIKE THAT YA DAMNED HEATHEN!!!!

    heheheh..... keep rocking out girlie!

  • haha loved it! it looks like so much fun!

  • Very good for a beginner, but you have a very noticable weak left foot. A good stepdancer does every step with both feet equally well. When it is difficult to determine which foot is the weakest then you can come down to Cape Breton and compete. Keep up the good work.

  • Sorry I can't help but laugh WAY out loud! Beginner?

Were you listening to the clarity in those intricate steps?? I wonder if the judges who gave this person 1st place on many occasions noticed that left foot??

  • Obviously the judges don't know much about stepdancing either - please!, I am not going to argue, I have two eyes and two ears and the planet is full of one-legged stepdancers. What separates the very best from the rest are those who perform with both feet equally well.

Do a search of Sabra MacGillivary on this site and you will see an excellent stepdancer and she will give you an idea of really how far you have to go.

  • I agree, I'm not going to argue either. I've been reading alot of the comments to this video, and the thing is there are so many styles of dancing, you can't really compare one to the other. So now that you've suggested I check out Sabra, that clears up alot. Cape Breton dancing is very different from Ottawa Valley. The 2 have very different goals in mind. I know Sabra is great at what she does, I've met her, she taught me a step one time.

  • Hey really good... i am a step dancer 2... its true that ur upper body mover 2 much... but ur feet r AMAZINE good work tho

  • Yeah, but this is the style that I do. All of us dance like this. We don't do the whole stiff upper body thing. It's more free in that sense.

  • O_O AWSOME! i really like it :OP

  • Sooo... Did you decide to keep the "spin things"?

  • Dude! That was freakin' awesome....more plz!!

  • Oooooooh, pretty!

  • lol if that were Irish step dancing lmao you would not place, your turn out is not there, and your upper body moves way to much lmao.. I am an Irish dancer

  • Well... if you competed in a step dance competition you probably wouldn't place... I am a step dancer.

  • k thanks

  • wut is the music in the backround called? i remember it and luv it...just cant put my finger on the name.

  • That's a guy I know named Shane Cook (self titled CD), the tune is Frank's Reel!

  • i have a talent for forming beats pretty good, but this is truly amazing! braavoo!

  • kazaam! whoazers! this is crazy cool. i feel like i've been wasting my time with years of irish dance lessons.... how long have you been doing that? did you choreograph that yourself or do you take lessons?

  • Hey... I've been dancing for 14 years and yes I do it myself. I teach quite a lot of stuents now. But Irish is still cool don't worry... I mean... it's no stepdancing... haha no no just kidding. They're both totally different. Most people can't tell a difference, but if you've done both, you'd know. And yeah I just found step WAY more free... and more fun and stuff so yeah! It's super cool!! Thanks!!

  • great work.. keep it up my friend...

  • oh my god this is INCREDIBLE! i irish dance, but this awesome! what kind of dancing is this?

  • damn...couldn't tell you missed a beat

    great job

  • yeah I went last summer as in the one that just past ('06). great job *thumbs up*. I'm hoping to come out next summer too. ha my two step dance dvds are in the mail I have been waiting a little over a week and I can't wait to get them!!! :):) they are by Judy Waymouth. anyway keep up the great stuff :D

  • I loveee it! I was in Ontario last summer and saw the dancers in the Pembroke competition and fell in love with this kind of step dance! I took Cape Breton step dance but this is waaayyy better! ha! nice work! you should put the rest of your reel/routine on here!

  • SWEET!! I won Pembroke in open last year! If you mean 2005. In 2006 I got fourth haha. But we won group woo woo! That's so cool. You should come again. It's sooo much fun. You totally have to learn how!!

  • this sucks!!!

  • ouch...

  • well whatever it is... its just great, keep it up... doenst beat good old rhythm tap though ;)

  • Well it's almost the same thing.. just a lot simpler! Hmmm your best bet would be to go see it for yourself! haha

  • Man, that move you do right before you go into the "spin things" sounds like a little machine gun is going off. It's just crazy how you get that much sound of of what seems to be so little movement.

Before this I had only heard of Canadian Step Dancing and never seen it. I imagined it to be a cross between Appalachian clogging and Irish hardshoe. It kinda is. I think it's awesome too. Now I just have to see what Cape Breton Step Dancing looks like. I have yet to find an example.

  • Actually... it's kind of a cross between highland dancing, and simpler stepdnaincg than what I'm doing!

  • well seen how were all askin questions!!!

how do ya do dat move 4 bars into d music, its like a wobbly walk forward or sumtin????not dat im tryin 2 steel ur moves r anythin!!:-?

  • Haha this is funny! Ok all I'm doing is... flap toe, hop flap toe! So bring the flap to the front, and toes in the back, and use the hope to switch feet! Hopefully that makes sense for you!! :)

  • oohhh rite.......am i hate 2 b a pain in d arse but whats is dat step in irish dance lingo???us irish r a slow bunch!haha!sorry??? :(

  • Well I don't really have a name for it lol. I just kind of make stuff up by combining random things together, and then I just and dance! I don't come up with names for stuff sorry haha. So... call it whatever you want haha.

  • That last move you do where you put both your feet together and kind of just glide from the right to the left... HOW did you get that much tapping out of that?

    You're awesome.

  • Hey! Thank you!! It's actually really easy: first you click your heels, then land one heel, then the other. (So that's click land land) Then you click your toes together, and then land one toe, and then the other. (And that's click tap tap.) So it's pretty easy! Just do it fast! lol... Hope you actually understand what I just said hehe!

  • jaysus girl dat was fairly impressive, there was a few real nice rhythms in there, wat is it?is it a mix between tap n irish?

  • Oh thank you so much!! This is called stepdancing. It's Canadian!! woo!! Yeah I guess it has irish roots, definately more tap in there these days. I teach advanced tap as well but I much prefer stepdancing! Check out my other videos of dancing... I'm sure I'll more eventually, but I'm way too busy right now!! Glad you liked it though!!

  • that was awesome

  • awesome

  • Really clean, very fun to watch

  • really impressive, keep it up

  • lol ok just for the record, it's neither hard shoe irish or tap. It's stepdancing!! Pure Canadian stuff right here haha

  • ahhh makes things more clear. I was wonderin' knew it wasn't irish. Great sound and rythm. very energetic!

  • oh yeh that was terrible (what? sarcasm by the way) thats crazy. i did irish dancing for 8yrs and what eva u do kicks its arse. wish i had of learnt that. good job xoxo

  • How creative of you, excellant rythms, great sound. Good job. Something I need to work is the sound of my hardshoe.

  • very nice sound! it looks more like tap than irish hardshoe but still overall very good!

  • That was really cool! Nice job.

  • Thanks everyone!! :)

  • oooh i like it! really creative

  • niceee

  • well, i don't know if you can dance, dance, but you can certainly tip dance/riverdance whatever you call it, lol!

  • i reaaly like the second and third step,,, very creative

  • hahah i loooove it!!! its like irish dancing gone crazy!!(im an irish dancer meself!!) amazing rhythms!!

  • Haha! That's one way to put it! Thanks a lot!!
