  • Love all of your songs.

  • brother bands seem to always inevitably drag their fans into the shitty sibling rivalry. i love ray and i love dave. dave is obviously more than "dave death of a clown davies" but i cant stay mad at ray. i'll never choose. never ever ever ever never ever ever . you cant make me.

  • I'm gonna miss her bloodshot alcoholic eyes,...

  • @filmgear thats the greatest line ever

  • Thank god there aren't many kinks song in classic radio or I'd hate them by now. Grrrrr.

  • @manferot Fancy another helping of Bob Seger?

  • After saying that for the better part of a decade, I think Dave is over it by then.

  • man what a cool band. saw these guys at cobo arena in detroit about 81 or 82. just about the most entertaining rock show i ever saw. the kinks really did give the people what they want.

  • @mudblood6120 i agree i saw them on that tour in sydney best by a mile

  • You guys who wonder whether Dave liked the introduction or not, why don't you read Dave's biograghy Kink and find out.

  • Did you see Dave's expression? I think Dave "Death of a Clown" Davies or whatever he said was meant to be a little (sarcastic) dagger. I'm the last person to criticise Ray, because as I said I practically worship him, but I know plenty about sibling rivalry...and have heard some of Dave's interviews!

  • I adore ...well worship Ray, but admit he was pretty cruel to his brother here, and probably on other occasions, I can't believe Dave took the insult smiling, I personally would have punched Ray in the face...no I couldn't do that! Sorry to disagree with limeginger, but I think that there is no comparison between Ray and Dave at least as far as songwriting goes, Ray's talent is unequalled

  • @Pollywollyish I really can't see where the insult is. Ok he's not praising Dave, but he's not being cruel either, come on.

  • @LongLiveRock87 It's not my favorite show, but you know that Family Guy joke about the other Beatles putting Ringo's songs on the fridge "so everyone can see"? That's what Ray's doing. He's putting Dave down for not being as prolific or successful a songwriter, even though he wrote a lot of terrific tracks. Ray also used to interrupt performances of Death of a Clown by standing in front of him and playing something else.

  • Ray's too fucking cool! Great song.

  • This song is what it is all about and what it means to be a Kinks fan and Not Like Everybody else, they'll try and make me change my way of living, but they'll never make me something that I'm not, and they'' never make a zombie out of me! Dan the Fan, The Mntvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy

  • very important band

  • @SPITFIRECARPENTRY

Yes, so underrated. The Kinks and Dire Straits turned out great music. Love these OGWT videos, powerful stuff.....

  • Hahaha cool,they're so awesome,what a unique song too.

  • Yes, it is so obvious that Ray's music has been transending ever since. I noticed it in Jack White lyrics and several songs And, the harmony with the beatles. I hadnt notice this in the doors.

Utube is so great, thanks for bringing us all together to listen and share comments about our beloved Kinks.

  • Very underrated , been a Muswellhill billy all my life

  • its ridiculous how underrated this band is.

  • everybody says the same. I dont know if they are underrated. For me and many people they are the best. I think they have a lot of recognition.

  • @yellowpowerranger94 :

Only underrated to people who don't know them. In my book, number one band and as such, not underrated. But i get ur point. Amazes me how mainstream acclaim has always passed the Kinks by.

  • well yeah thats what i meant, obviously they aren't entirely underrated as they've been inducted into the hall of fame & such. their early stuff got the most recognition, even though my mum, who was around at the time, thought that 'all day and all of the night' was by the easybeats.

they didn't get AS much recognition as they deserved for great albums in their later work such as muswell hillbillies, in my opinion.

i don't think i've heard any kinks songs on classic rock stations.

  • @yellowpowerranger94 Know what you mean, you obviously know your Kinks. Wondering though, do you think the production has stood the test of time as well as those records by the BeaTles and Stones?

  • @CurtisMateer well, if you're considering the comparison of bands in terms of impact, then obviously the beatles and the stones moved music forward a lot more. but i personally have a deeper fondness for the kinks than for those bands.

  • @yellowpowerranger94 the Kinks had a much bigger impact on Britpop then the stones though

  • @yellowpowerranger94 no way the kinks were the leaders

  • @bbbcswr well yeah thats what i meant, obviously they aren't entirely underrated as they've been inducted into the hall of fame & such. their early stuff got the most recognition, even though my mum, who was around at the time, thought that 'all day and all of the night' was by the easybeats.

  • @yellowpowerranger94 There the best

  • i love muswell hill cause i live there

  • the doors and the kinks are great

  • the song hotel yorba by the white stripes sounds pretty close to this. i wonder if they got some ideas from this song.

  • I didfn't notice that before you said it, but Jack White probably owes royalties to the Kinks for that song.

  • The Kinks song All Day and All of the Night was deemed by the court to have been ripped off by the Doors for Hello I Love You.

  • *high fives pjbrubak* Good call, fuck the Doors.

Actually I like the Doors, but now that you mention it it does sound like they ripped off the song - I never noticed it, but thanks for pointing it out..

  • HIgh fives accepted! YouTube needs more high fives in its comments section. I like the Doors too but not nearly as much as THE KINKS!

  • I like them both,so I couldn't say which one is better, talent is talent, that's the true key in the music biz,or at least it was back in the day.

  • this is such a great album that never got the recognition it deserved

  • If all life we work but work is a bore,

if life's worth living then what's livin for.

  • Where on Earth did you find this? I am too young to have ever seen them live but I would love to have a copy of this. My Favorite Band and sleepwalker is one of my favorite albums.

  • Brothers are brothers but Ray wasn't very nice here...

  • I've heard that he could be a real bastard. And was very controlling of the band. Good looking dude, though not as cute as little brother

  • I've heard similar stories, too. He does look good, but I've always liked Dave more, he looks more happy and open performer and person

  • IS he being nasty or just beboaming the fact everyone thinks that DD is only known for one song?

  • He always introduced Dave that way. From what I've read, it was sort of a subtle put down and Dave was not amused. Their relationship wasn't exactly a smooth one anyway.

  • Not all that subtle if you ask me! Ray must have felt threatened, jealous, etc. of Dave to keep doing that, when he knew that it hurt Dave. He probably felt he couldn't help acting like such a dick to his brother, but probably hated himself in a way for doing it.

  • Ray's acting like he's hit the beer a little too hard. And the "Dave Death of a Clown" Davies is a bit mean...

  • Yeah, I agree! It's no wonder the two were frequently getting into fistfights! It would take a saint to put up with Ray. (Though I still adore him!)

  • I agree, but why did Ray have to be so obnoxious to Dave?!? In the world of rock and roll, Dave is probably comes close to sainthood, LOL.

In Dave's autobiography, it almost sounded as if Ray fundamentally changed after his first major nervous breakdown, and it just went downhill from there and things got psychotic.

Considering the incredible music they created and the personal costs they paid to create it, it's amazing in a way that they still communicate at all.

  • ... mr.Death of a clown...Dave Davies. Ray you are the man.

  • I actually that was kind of a crappy thing to say, cruddy way to introduce his brother, a back-handed compliment, given how much Dave wrote, and how fundamental he was to the band's success. Ah...sibling rivalry. Love me some Ray, but Dave is extraordinary, and Ray's always had a bit of an older brother attitude about Dave. C'est la vie -- glad to see this great clip up -- thanks for posting!

  • well, what can i say, i totally agree with you. here in Italy we call this kind rivalry as "fratelli coltelli", a funny thing which means that the two brothers they are really in competition. i think that it's not easy sometimes to understand Ray, but a genius he's a genius..about Dave, i love every single note of his sound, and i'm so happy that is well recovering after the stroke. roumors about a Kinks reunion: i believe that is the truth, can't wait! thanks for the kinds words.

  • Dave is dead set against a reunion if it means spending time in the studio with his brother. I've read a couple of his posts on the matter and he's not exactly well, open to it.

  • @limeginger I agree. "Mr. Death of a Clown" Dave looked a little pissed off, which is not an unusual reaction to his brother.

  • @limeginger

Apparently the two brothers fought like cats and dogs on the stage.

  • @limeginger Don't be ridiculous, he's always introduced him that way. It's a take-off on the way bandleaders would introduce their singers in the 30s and 40s, putting the title of their latest hit between their names.

  • Awesome video! Thanks for putting this up here.

    God Save The Kinks!

  • What a reserved audience. Just polite applause, not shouts or hoots like in America. No laughter when a joke is made. Loosen up kids!!!

  • The title track of one of the greatest albums of all time that represents everything the KinKs stand for. They'll never make a zombie out of me...I'm not Like Everybody Else! God save the Kinks and all their loyal fans who have stood by them and supported them through the years, and for all we know they still might have a way to go! - Frank Lima, The Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy, aka Dan the Fan
