I'm not guaranteeing the Theriot leading off works out, but he is trying what he believes will work out. He works with these players everyday. He knows their capabilities as players. He's trying things out now that they have Fukudome in the lineup.
At this point in Lou's career, he is showing that the game has passed him by. It's great that 18 years ago he was a good manager, but at this stage, he is just a notch above average. He has put together a terrible lineup.
1.Theriot is an awful leadoff man
2.Soriano is uncomfortable in the 2 hole and that can screw up his game
3. Fukudome is the Perfect 1 or 2 hitter, and he's stuck batting 5, making his many walks and high average almost useless.
I think you left out the part where they got demolished in the playoffs that was the major point of the 2008 season
