the haters should stop making things so gloomy. yes, maybe installing this isnt one of their greatest plans, and im sure you all agree, but when you think about it, so much has already changed about HM for the better (atleast, i think it has) that really makes it seem "supernatural." ex., the new bride effects, the hitch-hiking ghosts animation, the new staircase room and the floating effects on madame leota! all of it, including the new queue, is purely for enhancement on the ride itself.
The real problem with the new queue is that it drops the ball in making it clear that the ghosts are silly and fun. The story of the ride is the move in perception of the ghosts from mysterious and possibly menacing, to just wanting to have a good time. The new queue tells the end of the story before we get the tension of discovery. Thumbs Down.
I'm a little bit sad that they got rid of the hillside. I recall that during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween there would be ghosts on there talking with guests.
there is a difference between being against change, and criticizing poorly conceived art. Those who dislike the new queue are simply doing the latter. And they are right.
Ricky, did you do a revue and say your thoughts and opinions about this new queue and the new HHGs in one of your previous podcasts? If so, which one was it? (and if not, which i doubt, can you please do it?)
I'm old enough to remember the beloved Haunted Mansion from my youth, and I understand that the purists want to have things remain the same - but that wasn't Walt's philosophy. He felt very strongly about moving forward, and so imagineering is continuing in that tradition. I feel that they've kept the ride itself pretty much in it's original form, and paid kind respects to the creative souls who played a role in the inception of the Mansion. Thanks for sharing this with us!
@never2old4fun I have no problem with change. I have a problem with them blatantly slapping the story of the ride in the face. The story being that Disney would take care of the outside, the ghosts would take care of the inside. In other words, anything haunted on the inside, not on the outside.
@TheSpiralOrder Well, isn't this Disney taking care of the outside the way they see fit? I'm glad that the ghosts can wander outside because Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party wouldn't be the same without them. =D
I'm just trying to look for positives even though I have mixed feelings as well. It is what it is, and I'll continue to be a mansion enthusiast no matter what.
@never2old4fun So, they're putting fake ghosts outside an actual haunted mansion? Because, according to the storyline, that's exactly what they've done. I'm fine with them making an exception for Halloween, ghosts love a good party (and some of them can really be the death of the party) but for the most part, keep the ghosts inside.
@never2old4fun You're absolutely right! That is true about Walt Disney, especially if you've seen Meet the Robinsons, you learn Disneys personal philosophy was "keep moving forward", which they only mentioned about a hundred times.
I Love this video. how many times can you say you have a personal tour of the haunted mansion queue with the guy who made it. The haters who are leaving comments are making me so mad, I think they are just jealous they didnt go last night!
@cardboardbelt Not true. They were staggering tours of 25 people at a time and he had just finished with another group and was about to start with a second when Goodman pulled him in to say hi to our group for a moment.
Awesome video! I went to the haunted Mansion last week and went through the cementary but I didn't know about the ring. Next time I go I'll look for it :)
