I still love the Casnoff version the most, but Wilkinson and Head are great too. Pascal is just okay. He lacks the technical skills of the other singers.
I don't really like Head. IMO he sounds really strained, like he can't quite hold the note long enough on key and I just can't get past that. I think Pascal had some genuine pathos in his performance, sounded tormented and frustrated. I like Casnoff as well, maybe better than Pascal.
Don't know what's with all the hate Murray Head's version gets. Personally I love this version. Not quite as good as Adam Pascal's on the DVD, but still. I don't see how you can't hear the tortured emotion in his voice in this rendition. it's definitely there. And ANYBODY who can actually pull this song off is an incredibly talented singer; this being one of the most difficult songs to perform that's probably ever been written.
I agree, I love Colm Wilkinson's powerful rendition of this song, but this version by Murray Head is just too bland and formulaic, and he doesn't seem to be putting any feeling into it, more like a competent but uninspired karaoke performance. Doesn't do justice to a great song.
Colm Wilkinson's version has to be the most powerful version i have ever heard. He wins hands down for power and emotion. In a close second comes Adam Pascal, he takes on the character so well and has another great version of the song
so much better in swedish... you should check it out ;D

Once again I stand in awe. The dramatic development in this song is hardly beatable.

I disagree--I think there's mechanical in the instrumentation, but I think Murray Head is great!
