  • he's the cleanest guitar player i ever know

  • WHAT KIND OF WITCHCRAFT IS THIS??

  • magic, got it

  • Heres my input, hendrix did use scales and modes. i can tell that just by listening to him. music theory is a tool for conveying emotoin. might as well say bach mozart and beetoven didnt put any feeling to their music. loomis is not at all a robotic shredder. all music has a place.

  • Why are people so set on trash talking Hendrix? He was a great musician and songwriter. Not to mention completely different than any metal guitarist. Is it that hard for people to just watch the video and shut the fuck up? I don't understand where the constant compulsion to shit talk and compare guitarists comes from, can't we all just learn and take influence from all guitarists?

  • thats the best evil laugh i ever heard. he thought: watch this and die;D oh man i'm so good... might even be a god ;D let's play a random arpeggio. AND NOW MY LIK OF TOTAL DOOM...

    then every viewer dies...

  • it'd take me yea...decades to learn this.

  • This is like button mashing on video games.... Where's the soul?? all I hear are notes and scales an octave change and key changes. Has the art of playing guitar really died?

  • I'm pretty sure every guitarist's music consists of notes, scales, octave changes and key changes, regardless of soul. I mean, it's kind of hard to play guitar without any of those factors don't you think?

  • @LTDGuitars420 Those factors I see as baby steps to overcoming fretboard harmony. A7X does better harmony's than Loomis here. Dick Dale doesn't know how to play guitar, and he is the Surf Rock King. A note about Hendrix, He never stuck to modes and scales like Mr. Robot here. Feeling brings music alive. People tend to transpire to it and can relate to notes and tones a lot better than relating to repetitive patterns. The last 3 notes played at 0:24 was better than the soulless mashing before.

  • Those factors are baby steps? You really don't know what the fuck you're talking about do you? People use scales, octaves, key changes etc. without knowing any theory. Hendrix used all of those, maybe not intentionally, but he did. Jeff is not a bad musician. I understand wanting soul in music, but you seem to pretend that the technical aspects aren't as equally important. You're comparing two completely different musicians from two completely different eras in two completely different genres.

  • @LTDGuitars420 music is cross generated through genres that evolved over time. whether a musician is old vs. a newer one, or the genre, doesn't matter. What is the expression that he is playing? I've heard metal with meaning. He is just showing how fast he is. What anyone is capable of isn't what music is all about. Most shred guitarist today sound like this. all the same. One of the best that really carries tone and emotion with shred is Buckethead.

  • @MEX0688 So if you don't like Jeff's playing this much, why the fuck are you wasting your time commenting on one of his videos?

  • @P0tofp0t damn calm down, I thought I could find something I liked but I was wrong, obviously.

  • @LTDGuitars420 all I'm saying is that I don't see the value of this guitarist, besides speed. Cheap way to get in to music if you ask me.

  • @MEX0688 Check out Azure Haze, Departure, or Sacristy if you want Loomis' emotionally driven instrumentals. There's a wealth of Nevermore songs that also display his slower more melodic songwriting such as Insignificant, Sell my Heart for Stones, The Heart Collector, Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday, She Comes In Colors, Believe In Nothing, Sentient 6, Who Decides, etc.

  • @MEX0688 No way... I understand wanting someone with more feeling in their playing, but this guy I'd say is pretty damn good still. I know that theirs better musicians than him already like Michael Fath, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, basically a lot of people, but this guy is truely great too.

  • is it just me or does jeff and misha mansoor look the same

  • 00:06

Shit, you never gonna play that as fast as me *evil laughter*

  • okay got the lick jeff. now all i gotta do is practice 25 hours a day 8 days a week for the next 35 years

  • @25jonathan by the logic of the sentence, you will die in 34 years?

  • @leothedrawer3 oh the irony

  • @jameshetfieldjunior9 Skwisgaar dreams about playing like this... XD

  • Jeff Loomis IS the devil, fuckin unreal player.

  • hey guys, it's actually music when you slow it down ;)

  • Comment removed

  • wow.

I NEED TO KNOW MORE THEORY . . then i can at least attempt to learn this :P

  • holly shit balls this guy can play one of the top contenders for this league

  • @abrookes1985 Lol, wtf? What, ain't english your native language?

  • @abrookes1985 He's not only fast. Velocity it's just one of his qualities. He's fast, melodic, his licks are extremely beautiful, shreds like hell and it's all clean and well-played. In neo-classical branch in Guitar universe, he's probably the best.

  • 0:07

  • @abrookes1985 I bet you do.

  • @abrookes1985 and yet you spent your time watching this? You fail.

  • Comment removed

  • @abrookes1985 go fuck yourself

  • 0 people are guitarded.

  • The reason its called Devil Theory is because only devils can play it, and we all know jeff is a Devil

  • Jeff, calm down mate.

  • hahha i understood all of that. he just does it a little faster than me.

  • that Devil Theory sweep was LegenDARY!

  • thumbs up for bigchode

  • shit it seems like he played it differently when he played it slow. watch carefully towards the end of devil theory. in a few sweeps hehe switch the sweep back down and then goes up to resolve it when he plays it fast but he doesnt play it like that slowly...

  • hes like a combo of MAB and jason becker

  • ya jeff i got all that

  • When Jeff says its crazy, God himself couldn't play it

  • His stuff is just crazy, but he plays it so clean

  • jizz in my pants

  • the devil theory sweeis is the most evil sweep ever written

  • OMG watch him do the sweep, tap slide, sweep portion at normal speed....his finger is like greased lightning on that tap!!!

  • Dude man it looks like you are playing Devil Theory stuff two ways........Slow is not the same as fast speed but it all sounds super cool anyway

  • craziest arppegio sequence i have ever attempted!

and i gotta say it's quite difficult but once to get it u get to show off to other people!!!

  • i just wet my pants :O

  • seeing is believing, with the exception of Jeff Loomis

  • this isn't impossible to play no song is, its actually alot easier if you practice going up and down full arpigated sequences in a major or minor key e12 e7 b8 g9 d9 a10 a7 then climb back up the same notes again, next one e15 e12 b12 g12 d14 a14 a10 then back up, e19 e15 b17 g16 d17 a19 14 then climb back up....you learn how to sequence and your set.

  • then again my two favorite guitarists are Jeff Loomis and Muhammad Suicmez...so i observe and play and learn and play some more...(:

  • you irresistable cunt.

  • *shoots himself*

  • OH GOD WTF

  • i had just pciked my guitar up to practise before watching this video.... now i feel like burning it to ashes and saying 'I am not worthy!!'

  • jeff = sick

  • Comment removed

  • GOD DAMMIT WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER TRYING TO PLAY GUITAR WHILE WATCHING THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Watch closely. hahahaha awesome. Love it. Impossible but I love it. I will get that good. I will get that good. I will get that good.

  • watch closely, muajajajajaja

  • I'm going to just sling fries at Arby's!!!

  • if there is anyone who can play this, WILL U PUT AN EASY TO UNDERSTAND LESSON???!!??!!!

  • watch closely...HEHEHE

  • yes jeff... because i can sweep at 18 notes per second...

i don't think watching closely will help me much here my eyes can't comprehend this nevermind my fingers

  • its so insane "jeff loomis is awsome so dont hate on me but" he fucked up in the begening on it, and i assume he had to take a few takes to get it done. for something that hard you have to warm up, because its not the first thing you can play when you wake up... lol

  • jeff loomis is badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That is so fast

  • record more solo stuff loomis!!! i absolutely LOVE zero order phase

  • Motherfucking outstanding OMG

  • That evil laugh that he does in the beginning...

    O_O

  • yo fellas, can someone pls tell me when and where he is going to play live solo, not with nevermore, although they kick ass.thks guys.

  • This guy is a freakin' machine!!

He's got Paul Gilbert-like alien fingers (although not quite as extrme), which are very useful for shred!

  • I bet hendrix couldn't do that :P

  • @TerraHuman Hendrix couldn't do 99.9% of what some guitarists do today ....

  • @matteous Then again no one from that era could

Hendrix was the shit, you gotta admit that

  • @matteous but he did that .1% of what he can do before they did

  • @Rockn420Roll What about all the classical guitarists?

  • @matteous But still,Hendrix is the legend of electric guitar....He played with soul, unlike 95% of guitarists today...Not saying for Loomis,he is the man.... :D

  • @matteous Too fuckin true. He was just one of the first to be "good" at guitar, so people credit him as being the best...*shrugs*

  • @matteous Hendrix couldnt do what 99% of what some guitarists do today because he had no previous influences that played like this. There's tons of guys that can tap, sweep, and all this other crazy shit right now, and there was always a couple before them, but Hendrix was a true innovator. Look at it this way if Hendrix never played, I bet guitar never would have evolved into sweeping techniques at all. You have to look at the time period and look at the other active musicians in said time

  • Comment removed

  • @matteous Yeah but 99.9% guitarists of today dont have even the 0.000000000000001 creativity as Hendrix to make something new

  • @CoolKwstas123 They absolutely do.

You just don't look deep enough into music to find the ones with creativity.

  • the jato unit sweeps sound alot like his sweeps in miles of machine

  • they are played around the same frets on the neck, but the sweeps in miles of machine are harder

  • True, but they just sound so similar :D

  • @combobommen there very similar to the sweeps in this godless endeavorer

  • It's almost disgusting, it's too perfect, he plays with an incredible precision. Jeff is really unbelievable. Kickass.

  • It's because he NEVER messes up.

  • is the new jason becker

  • this is probably the craziest most amazing sweep that has ever been written and played. It makes people explode orgasm juice every time he plays a note from it. I just can't get over it its just SOOO GOOOODDDD. Jeff Loomis is a GODDDD

  • have you seen the Psalms of Lydia sweep section?

  • no i have not :D

  • check it out..if you like this you'll love that too...

  • @deviltriggerinc

its a lot easier, i can play that, still great though

  • shut the fuck up GGTopGuitarist you wish u could make something like that>>>......

  • yea i do wish i could :D i suppose he just knows that if people really want to learn it they can work it out from the shapes he plays..

  • Comment removed

  • he leaves it out so cause you should be able to figure out the rest

  • this inspires me to practice my ass off!

  • HOLY SHIT! This guy is great, way underrated!

  • he missed out parts when he plays it slow ¬_¬ that s pretty annoying

  • so true! -.-

  • i just shit my pants!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yea its crazy stuff dude

  • @GGTopGuitarist

Really? i had jizz cumming out my ears. They were just raped (or is it really rape if they enjoyed it?).

  • A sweeping monster. Almost as good as Jason Becker.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • way better than Jason Becker!

  • You're entitled to your opinion. Watch Jason Becker play "Serrana" at that guitar clinic and then decide who is the greatest sweep picker of them all.

  • you know nothing.

  • lol evil laugh well deserved.

  • After the laugh, when he did that sweep thing, I was thinking, "Maybe I can pull this off!" And then after that he did the solo. Needless to say, I didn't pull it off.

  • i can play this easy... just a million times slower than he does but well... who the shit can actually hope to be as good as Loomis??

  • lol @ the evil laugh cause he knows no one else can do this shit

  • @XSilverxCrossx yeah idk if even yngwie could do this stuff, and they both have a very similiar style.

  • @XSilverxCrossx

The first time I watched this video, my pc shut down right after "his evil laugh" at 0:05 and my town had an electricity blackout for 4 hours! His laugh is truly evil, what an irony.

  • omg, that jato unit part is killing me. i can't move my fingers fast enough. lol

  • H - O - L - Y S - H - I - T ! ! !

  • i really really dont wanna pay for this i just wanna get the tabs for the devil theory sweeps HELP

  • Just man up and buy it!

  • youre a musician. understand that each time you rip off another musician you can expect it to happen to yourself. support music and support other musicians

  • i really try to...i just wanted to learn one set of sweeps from one song from one album :(. damn..making me feel guilty.

  • ha its ok i do it sometimes too, regardless of if you believe in karma or attitude being returned to you or whatever its just a helpful thing and one day it'll pay off

  • Ok he asked for us to pay close attention how the hell is it possible to watch somthing that fast

  • 0:18 WT Almighty F was that. Insane.

  • Comment removed

  • sweep, tap, slide. sick.

  • eheh I love when he laughs at the beginning... :) like he's meaning "you'll never make it"!!

  • the best sweeper is michael angelo batio, hands down the cleanist and the fastest,I love vai and loomis, personally I like the way loomis plays best.but batio is well batio

  • Have to disagree there. Batio is not the best. This guy whoops his ass. Batio might be older and more experienced, but Satch, Vai and Loomis all run circles round him. All I've ever seen him do is play diminished and minor stuff and run up and down the scale. He can do inverted sweeps and stuff, but he's all showboating.

  • i agree

  • him and alexi laiho are the best heavy metal neo classical guitarists ever!

  • alexi laiho doesn't even have 1% of the talent loomis has

  • can i call his master of sweeping?

i think he is the best after Jason Becker...

  • He is the best after Steve Vai!

  • in sweepwing? :D

you gotta be kiding, 'cause i'm not buying it :D

  • No, Steve Vai is just THE BEST sweeper.

  • send me a YT link on PM, and than i'll see...

  • his tendency to improvise at high speeds makes it pretty frustrating for those who want to learn to play it with all the little details as on the album...

  • gee thanks jeff loomis.....i learned so much from ur video.........*pissed face*

  • ur hella gay he is the best teacher there is

  • if you knew how to play you'd learn a lot actually

  • Some pretty fuckin cool shit! Played with utmost skill and precision.
