@toomy094 I know he uses something on his first solo. But on his second solo, which is the very last solo, I think it is just guitar straight to fender tube amp.
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU DISLIKE THIS????!. the person that dislikes this doesnt know a shit about music. THIS is for sure one of the best pieces of music ive heard in my entire life..only 17 years old but still this is freaking incredible.i would describe it with these words incredible, ridiculous and absolutely fantastic
This guy is SO damn good! Such a clean cover of this song. It's funny, you can hear so much, "I don't trust myself" in this version (0:33, 7:24-). Awesome! The best guitarist of our generation regardless of what you think of him personally.
i like most of his solo, but some of it seemed like unwise note placement. just an opinion... i am in no way doubting his ability to play a guitar just that some of it sounded out of place and a shorter solo may have been more appropriate. as an opinion
Man. If you had a blindfold on you wouldnt have know if it were Eric Clapton himself or John playing the solo. John really does steal from Eric A LOT. And it is good.
I think it's hilarious that I'd been saying that Erykah Badu stole Clapton's swagger on Call Tyrone. . .and then I find this. . .John Mayer busting out a little Badu during this cover. PRICELESS
I'ce heard different versions of this cover by John including one in 2002 and this really is the best. Clapton is, well, Clapton. But John, ohh, John can really play up to or at the same level.
I absolutely could not agree more with the last paragraph of the description in the sidebar...everyone should read it...very well written my friend :)
Are you kidding? That's what blues is ALL about is feeling. Only one person or another's interpretation could deem it "awesome". Any feeling is better than none, whether it's awesome or not. But then, that's all just someone's opinion.
Also the 2nd guitarists solo has some pretty damn good tone. It's markedly different from John's, which is to be expected in a 2-guitar setup, and his feel is different. He plays a bit more like Billy Gibbons than John Mayer. But guess what, he plays with John and we don't, so he obviously has something going for him. And who wants to hear 2 guitar solos that sound like they could've come from the same person?
The Chorus interpolates Erykah Badu-Tyrone. Tyrone is is basically the same song as Old Love, same chord progression. Mayer has a good ear and and obviously listens to alot of different music. This is great
love how he incorporated that and instead of the clapton version which wants the old love to get out of his head, john changes it to wanted the old love to come back home. Not just the guitar that makes it his own spin to it
by far out-does the other versions of this song that he has done. its not the feel of clapton, but he for sure has his own zone here that is just unbelievable. and he's got years and years ahead to continue making himself one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
OMG!!! I kinda get the feeling that John has put on his clapton soloing hat because this isn't his usual feel when soloing, but i LOVE this feel. It's like John feel put together with Clapton feel! Oh yeah. Farout this is an awesome recording. Thanku so much:)
Oh, beautiful. This was the first Mayer concert I went to. This, plus Wheel, plus Wind Cries Mary, plus the debut of Another Kind of Green all made for an unforgettable night.
You're so lucky! Do you remember if the debut of Another Kind of Green was with his full band or by himself on acoustic? I love that song, but I've only heard very few bootlegs of it.
@danielyimm ??? Don't get this. "Another Kind of Green" was on "Try!" by the John Mayer Trio, which was released in 2005. Not sure how the debut could have been in 2008. Fact checker????
@danielyimm actually i think he came in at 5:55, yeah his tone is very distinct and overdriven. but i doubt he plays the solo with a slide though, dun really sound like it
wow...ive been collecting mayer stuff since the first release of room for squares and somehow ive never heard this version..this is incredible...i like it more than claptons hyde park performance of this song. and of course DRH is amazing as well. they mesh so well together.
Wow! This is pretty funny because I almost put up the same version, but for some reason, the mp3 wouldn't work with the video format. Anyway, thanks for doing it for me!! This version is AWESEOME . . . (especially the end where DRH and John play eachothers guitars . . . through the audio, it sounds kind of lame . . . but if you saw it live, it was awesome)
I always come back to this video. This is the best version of this song I've heard.
