  • I always come back to this video. This is the best version of this song I've heard.

  • Why have I only just heard this ?!

    It's amazing

  • what is the effect on the guitar from 3:30?

  • @toomy094 I don't think there are any effects man, maybe a tiny wah

  • @mreliassimpson thx:) i think he uses phaser with high speed and vintage overdrive :)

  • @toomy094 I know he uses something on his first solo. But on his second solo, which is the very last solo, I think it is just guitar straight to fender tube amp.

  • HOW THE FUCK DO YOU DISLIKE THIS????!. the person that dislikes this doesnt know a shit about music. THIS is for sure one of the best pieces of music ive heard in my entire life..only 17 years old but still this is freaking incredible.i would describe it with these words incredible, ridiculous and absolutely fantastic

  • just two words

    fucking awesome :D

  • btw who plays the second solo?

  • i think you better call tyrone.. erikah badu homage too..

  • This guy is SO damn good! Such a clean cover of this song. It's funny, you can hear so much, "I don't trust myself" in this version (0:33, 7:24-). Awesome! The best guitarist of our generation regardless of what you think of him personally.

  • i´ve cried...it reminds me my ex... :(

  • what he says before old love??? my english is very bad. -.-!

  • @ElvisJc1 i think you better called , or sum like that

  • Great sound quality! Is there a mp3 available?

  • JM covering Old Love is the quintessential musical orgasm. This is beyond gorgeous. His talent, passion & musical creativity are undeniable. >3 JM>

  • Old Love has the sexiest chord progression I've EVER heard..

  • What's wrong with the one who disliked this song?

  • Holy Sweetness Lord have mercy ♥ : )

  • this just brings a massssive smile to your face.. :D

  • is there any more of this show?

  • man, john mayer is a beast!

  • At 5:58 you just know it's DRH. He has such a different feel than Mayer.

  • 3:29 is the best part of the hole song

  • CAAHAAAL TYYRONEEEE ;) heh.. this rules, JM puts it down to the line... sure

  • Red Rocks is the best venue in the nation. COLORADO PRIDE!

  • GREAT!

    tks for sharing!

  • got chills....<3

  • amazing... Thats real music right there.

  • i like most of his solo, but some of it seemed like unwise note placement. just an opinion... i am in no way doubting his ability to play a guitar just that some of it sounded out of place and a shorter solo may have been more appropriate. as an opinion

  • @ColtonSaylor713 the second solo was david ryan harris

  • @ColtonSaylor713 i get what you mean, i think its cool thought

  • Man. If you had a blindfold on you wouldnt have know if it were Eric Clapton himself or John playing the solo. John really does steal from Eric A LOT. And it is good.

  • i think adding DRH on vocals and guitar was a very good idea by John

  • I think it's hilarious that I'd been saying that Erykah Badu stole Clapton's swagger on Call Tyrone. . .and then I find this. . .John Mayer busting out a little Badu during this cover. PRICELESS

  • sexyyy

  • I'ce heard different versions of this cover by John including one in 2002 and this really is the best. Clapton is, well, Clapton. But John, ohh, John can really play up to or at the same level.

  • he is THE BEST there is now.

  • @OMERTA011

    he has great potential

  • jezus john stop that pop shit and do this all day long.

    thanx for uploading.......

  • frodi1964

I get a high feel when I hear this and not on drugs

  • thanks so much for putting up the download links!

  • I absolutely could not agree more with the last paragraph of the description in the sidebar...everyone should read it...very well written my friend :)

  • 2nd solo : very bad feeling and tone

John mayer solo : awesome feeling ! so good

  • since when is Blues music supposed to be about having "awesome feeling"?

  • Are you kidding? That's what blues is ALL about is feeling. Only one person or another's interpretation could deem it "awesome". Any feeling is better than none, whether it's awesome or not. But then, that's all just someone's opinion.

  • Also the 2nd guitarists solo has some pretty damn good tone. It's markedly different from John's, which is to be expected in a 2-guitar setup, and his feel is different. He plays a bit more like Billy Gibbons than John Mayer. But guess what, he plays with John and we don't, so he obviously has something going for him. And who wants to hear 2 guitar solos that sound like they could've come from the same person?

  • @cmcblues i totally the 2nd one has a good tone as well..both has to be different tone..well said

  • iam agree with you but this 2nd solo is very bad

  • Do you have this whole concert? if you do could i have a link to it?

  • his voice in the beginning sounds so much like SRV one could confuse it!

and his first solo tone is pure blues harmonica somehow. fantastic

  • The Chorus interpolates Erykah Badu-Tyrone. Tyrone is is basically the same song as Old Love, same chord progression. Mayer has a good ear and and obviously listens to alot of different music. This is great

  • Who plays the 2nd guitar solo?

  • David Ryan Harris

  • i was talkin about john's one it is wonderful !

  • David Ryan Harris

  • W T F was that solo ??????????????? incredible

  • DRH rips it up in this version too. damn!

  • erika badu chorus from one of her songs

  • love how he incorporated that and instead of the clapton version which wants the old love to get out of his head, john changes it to wanted the old love to come back home. Not just the guitar that makes it his own spin to it

  • the clapton vocals are incomparable

  • Do you have any other tracks from this show?

  • by far out-does the other versions of this song that he has done. its not the feel of clapton, but he for sure has his own zone here that is just unbelievable. and he's got years and years ahead to continue making himself one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

  • This has always been one of my favorite Clapton songs. Now hearing John play it has to be the best there is.

  • Was at this concert. Was a great show. Loved when he played this cover

  • great music...

  • i also noticed the badu immediately

  • OMG!!! I kinda get the feeling that John has put on his clapton soloing hat because this isn't his usual feel when soloing, but i LOVE this feel. It's like John feel put together with Clapton feel! Oh yeah. Farout this is an awesome recording. Thanku so much:)

  • Oh, beautiful. This was the first Mayer concert I went to. This, plus Wheel, plus Wind Cries Mary, plus the debut of Another Kind of Green all made for an unforgettable night.

  • You're so lucky! Do you remember if the debut of Another Kind of Green was with his full band or by himself on acoustic? I love that song, but I've only heard very few bootlegs of it.

  • He played it solo electric. He didn't play the song full band until the Trio.

  • Thank you thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I waited a long time for this kind of guitar talent. I wish more people realized it.

  • @danielyimm you wouldnt happen to have the mp3 for this song would you? if you do, can i pleeeaasee get it lol

  • @jdmgts88 NVM found it

  • @danielyimm Nice, how did you record?

  • @danielyimm ??? Don't get this. "Another Kind of Green" was on "Try!" by the John Mayer Trio, which was released in 2005. Not sure how the debut could have been in 2008. Fact checker????

  • @InMyM2Z tht sounds like such an epic night

  • THanks Daniel

  • Long live the blues.

  • FANFRIGGINTASTIC!!!!!!!!! can someone tell me when drh comes in?

  • At 5:58, you can hear DRH come in with the guitar slide and that thick humbucker timbre after John finishes his solo.

  • great thanks for that

  • @danielyimm but I thought the slide guitarist was robbie... ?

  • @danielyimm actually i think he came in at 5:55, yeah his tone is very distinct and overdriven. but i doubt he plays the solo with a slide though, dun really sound like it

  • did you just quote boondock saints? if you did i just want to say you are awesome!

  • sa-vage

  • this is fuckin' ridiculous.

  • @whatadizzydizz The best and only words you could have used to describe this

  • nice

  • JOhn meeds recognition... blues needs recognition...... in this industry of superficiality.....

  • wow...ive been collecting mayer stuff since the first release of room for squares and somehow ive never heard this version..this is incredible...i like it more than claptons hyde park performance of this song. and of course DRH is amazing as well. they mesh so well together.

  • listen to the solo electric version.... its amazing..... he makes it his own...

  • omg this was intense, how did i not come across this sooner..

  • One of my fav Clapton songs covered by JM. Love how he blended in some Badu...First time i heard Old Love ive always heard 'Tyrone' By Erykah Badu.

  • Wow, I know John throws influences here and there, but I never thought the way he sang this version was rooted from an Erykah Badu song.

Thanks for pointing that out. I really appreciate it.

  • nice!

  • damn damn damn... thats guitar work!

  • Yea, this is a sweet ass version!

  • Wow! This is pretty funny because I almost put up the same version, but for some reason, the mp3 wouldn't work with the video format. Anyway, thanks for doing it for me!! This version is AWESEOME . . . (especially the end where DRH and John play eachothers guitars . . . through the audio, it sounds kind of lame . . . but if you saw it live, it was awesome)
