  • second song.. autumn leaves, isnt it? :)

  • i have a shitty bass guitar and i want to buy my first bass (first one was traded for a game) and after trying this one out at guitar center i liked it alot and what impressed me the most was the price..it was such a good sounding bass and im looking forward to buying this one as soon as i get the money

  • What was the song at the very end?

  • Hey im stuck between buying this and the modified Jaguar. Which do you recommend , i usually play with a pick , which do you recommend for picking?

  • @DEREKJENNINGSBASS Epiphone thunderbird goth

  • Don't worry your slapping will improve just keep at it. I used to suck at slapping but now I love to slap. Here's a tip try to hit the strings with the bone on the side of your thumb to get a really percussive sound. I find keeping your thumb realitvely straight when slapping increases the quality of the sound.

  • man I had to modify my Squier it sounded like yours but a luth snapped the truss rod and none of the replacement necks...sounded as good... so I Franken Squiered it..tell me what you think..

  • Thanks for the demo man. Could you tell me what that second song was? Around 20 second mark?

  • lol Sinister Minister.

  • spiderman is playing in the back, but i think iam going to guy this bass it sounds soooo much better than my shitty peavy bass

  • That last thing you played--> thats the riff i use to warm up every day. i just go up and down the neck and play that line over and over

  • this sounds good. i think the bass player has a lot to do with the sound. if u suck on a squier ur prob gonna suck on a fender. and vice versa

  • Its maple wood which has a soft mellower sound. Its ok I prefer the snapier sounding wood

  • 1:08 -

I've been listened time to time. It's the express of feelings

  • should i get this or the squier 60's classic jazz vibe bass?

  • I think I'm the only one that has the black version of this.

  • @PennybagDarrell that's the new one right? i have the new pbass, lol.

  • the images of the tv looks cool with your sound!

  • i find that slap becomes difficult past the 9th fret. but all the reviews say this isnt an issue and that its 100% brilliant. Is it my bass imperticular or do all of them share this problem. also the action is quite high.

  • which amp are you using?the sound is great!!

  • ma i ke l è suonare

  • Dave Mathews? Crush? :D

Good bass line, thats nice bass.

  • Nice tone, is that an active or passive bass?

  • @redbarnrez1 It's passive.

  • i cant decide between a jazz bass or p bass, i do slapping but i also play in a pop punk band can someone

  • @mdf1010 I like the P-bass. Jazz Bass gives you more range of tone though, I will admit, the P-bass is a little less versatile, but I think the tone you get out of it is better.

  • how would you say the squier black jazz bass compares to this? In all aspects)

  • Wow, that fuckin thing sounds amazing!

  • KONG! The 8th Wonder Of The World!

  • sweet sound bro! what amp are you using?

i was gonna get this bass, but it was out of stock, so i wound up with the classic vibe

  • Vaporarrows you are soo stupid, Squire sucks. He is running it through a computer program its not that hard to figure out. those basses suck dick

  • @basslovee2e What would you recommend then?

  • @abacaba1977 well me personally im an Ibanez guy. but if your looking for an extremely pure tone, try a Noiser, Moon, or PRS. But with those you have to be willing to put down quite a bit of money

  • what's the second tune? (The high one?)

  • 1:07 เท่ห์สัด

  • 1:20 - Sinister Minister. <3

  • These are great basses. I have the fretted and fretless Jazz models.

  • Great guitar! I just bought one and should be here Wednesday! What is the chorded progression from at 0:23? Its gorgeous and would love to learn it! Thanks for all the style variety in your sampling.

  • That King Kong is distracting

  • The first time you slap is so sick. It's different but sounds decent. The second time is pretty good too. Just a tip is loosening your wrist a little for more speed. Sick bass i want to buy it. And i see you're watching King Kong in the back. Very Nice my friend.

  • Hey man....your bass sounds very good

  • Funny that you say "...I cant slap to save my life..." You started playing 'Sinister Minister' by Flecktones (Victor Wooten), butchered it, then quit... :)

  • tanks a lot

  • how is the sound on this bass using pick? it seems like a p-bass? i wanna a versatile bass

  • im using this bass in a deathcore band such a better metal bass than a jass bass

  • muy bien la demostracion tremendo hierro exelente la squier

  • I Heard Jaco Pastorius's melody)

  • I just bought this today! SEYYYYYYMOUR DUNCAN PICKUPS BABY

  • i like this bass

  • kingkong on back ground lol

  • first thing I noticed ahaahah :P

  • king kong going on in background

  • Love the end. "B*tchin' Camaro"! haha

  • it almost looks like geddy lee's bass?

  • Nice bass. I have had numerous Squiers and with a few glaring exceptions, they've all played and sounded better than the low price tag would suggest. I do, however, suggest changing pups on some of them, pots on most of them, and bridges on all of them.

Fact is, Squiers are basically Fenders with cheaper electronics & hardware.

The "Disappearing D" is even there.

Forget the Squier name on the headstock - save money on the bass, get a versatile amp & still sound good.

  • What do you replace the pups with ? ,they are both the same 92mm width on mine , Fenders have a wider bridge pickup .

  • Yep. A lot of the Mexican Jazz basses are the same way. It's actually a nice thing, too, because I've seen Squiers retrofitted with either Fender necks or decals posing as American models - that's one way to tell them apart.

Anyway, I generally go for preloaded DiMarzios - pups and pots - in a new pickguard. New Squiers are not feasible to do this, though. You can get a nice used 'real' Jazz for what you'd put into mods on one. This Vintage Modified bass is pretty nice the way it is.

  • @quehannaband I'm looking at getting a cheap bass rig just for jamming purposes. Which cab do you think is better, the Mesa Boogie 1x15 Powerhouse or Ampeg SVT 1x15?

  • Just for jamming? Save a BUNCH of bucks and get a Fender Rumble 100. It's got all the noise and punch you need, plus a direct-out if you do end up playing live. I picked one up for $150 on ebay and its awesome. If you do want a high-end one, either of the ones you mentioned are good, but also consider an Ashdown Five Fifteen.

Go to a good store and play them, see if I'm right about that Fender. :)

  • @quehannaband Eh I dont know about the Fender Rumble 100. I can find used Ampeg for $200-400

  • Ampeg for $200 would be great. Can you get 10 of them? If so, PM me and I'm in. :)

  • i love my fender rumble 100 :) i got it for a steal at a pawn shop for 115 haha its the best bass amp so many different setting for any type of bass

  • HA king kong is playin in the backround, oh and very nice looking bass and beautiful sound

  • It's a matter of genres. Sometimes you NEED a light bass.

  • i bought this....

my fender precision collects dust :(

    great bass

  • i made the mistake of buying an ibanez SRX over this bass a few months ago I really want to return it now and get this bass.

  • where would you compare this on a value scale with the Ibanez GSR200?

  • the VM 70s is a hell of alot better

  • what are you playing through?

  • those $350 damn worth it

  • You can find them on ebay for around $280, maybe a little cheaper than that.

  • Nice bass :) And nice movie your are watching :P King Kong ? xD

  • squier vintage modified jazz bass the best

  • I was just about to say something about the movie in the back =D

  • Jaco Pastorius!

  • Is this bass fairly light? I have a Epiphone Thunderbird, and it's fuggin' heavy and want something lighter.

  • this bass is not light, its solid maple

  • but it's soft maple

  • doesnt make it not made of maple, its still heavy

  • All jazz basses are pretty heavyish, I didn't feel a big difference in this one, then again, I'm used to solid ash :P

  • No light bass is going to give you the tone and sustain of a heavy bass.

  • Not true. I have a 64 jazz fender customshop. It is way lighter than this vintage modified (which I also have...awesome bass btw). I am totally blown away by the squier range however my customshop is very light and has the best tone of ANY bass I have ever played.

  • I guess it's just a matter of preference. When I play a light bass I fear that it will not have the sustain and tone of a heavy bass (ash body for example). And the lighter body bounces around too much when I play. I'm looking for sustain that last for days and I always get that from ash bodies and heavy-mass bass bridges. Fender stock basses sound too thin and wimpy for me.

  • king kong

  • haha thats awesome

  • guy looks like king kong

  • Very nice sound, you know you're paying for more than a name with Squire.

  • dude, i noticed that you couldn't do the part of portrait of tracy where jaco frets a string and does a harmonic on it at the same time. I had to find a different way to do it because my hand's too small. what I do is fret the 4th on the E string and put your pinkie over just past the 7th fret on the same string. then pluck. much easier than the way jaco does it.

  • lol you left king kong on XD

  • nice jazz bass.

portrait of tracy at 0:57? haha

  • nice. props for playing a portrait of tracy

  • CHINGY! YA DUDEZ!!!!

    j/k, Portrait of Tracy rocks.

  • what was the second thing u were playing with the cords?

  • It sounded a lot like Autumn Leaves.

  • I thought so too

  • how do you record the sound like that??!

  • i really like what you were playing...what do you think about the bass?

  • what bass amp are you using?

  • I also wanted to ask this.

  • Haha You were playing bitchin' camaro by the dead milkmen at the end :)

  • i own this bass too for 1 year and I think it's a very good bass wit very good micro. But there is some problem I think with the fret after the 12 and with the G-chord. A real Fender Jazz bass is good and better but this Squier is a really good bass with a nice price

  • yeah mine has a dead spot on the 17th fret on the D string

  • There is absolutely no reason (except greed) that instruments like this at this price point could not be manufactured in North America. Automation and direct factory sales are the answer.

  • Just the other day, I got a Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass. It sounds great and I'm excited, but, being more of a soft rock kinda guy than a blues guy, I'm wondering if I should return it and get this one instead.

Many people say fretless is great for sliding and all, but that's not really used much in rocks... Isn't it? And without frets, it surely is harder to play.

Should I just suck it up and keep this one? (I had a bit of discount due to its cracked finish on the rear)

  • put some resin veneer on the neck and put roundwound strings and buy a good preamp or equalizer to modulate the tone just check out my last videos , it was a cort action bass fretted in the before

  • The guy from The Mars Volta used a fretless bass on the whole of Frances The Mute if I'm correct in saying that.

  • I own one of these... One of the best Bass's ive ever played to be honest!

  • P if you do rock/blues/soul or Jazz if you in the mood for slap or jazz.

  • but I've used a P for slap and Jazz and a Jazz for rock/blues/and soul :P

  • Hmm... If everyone stopped buying new guitars made overseas and bought locally made, or used guitars the money would be kept in north america. that said i think'll get one of theeese.

  • Well, I just got one of these simply because I wanted it for recording. Since I am a guitarist and have two hand-made acoustics (one nylon st., one steel st.), a REAL Strat and a REAL Les Paul plus some others, I have to say for what I want it for, it is fine. But if you are essentially a bass player, why then yes you WILL have to eventually get "the real deal", i.e, an American Standard Fender Jazz Bass or whatever they call it. If you have huge, powerful, fatigue-resistant hands..go for it

  • Don't understand, my hands are on the slender side and I have no issues at all after just lowering the action basically. Now it takes no effort at all to fret notes. It's just about setup, not the instrument.

  • Not to hurt your feelings, but i can make this bass sound better rather than an American Standard JB. And with proper setup, this bass is just the real deal.

  • hehehe, nice comments!

  • rofl. so true

  • Get a squire both! I guess there is a difference though, not like an epi and gibson t-bird

  • get a life

  • here is the deal....basses have almost doubled in price! this beast is still $299.00 u.s. it is the deal !

  • Damn you're lucky I bought mine 380€ in France... But I love it!

  • i love the way mine has sounded and played so far...

  • is that bass nice to play on

  • hell yeah

a little heavy but you get used to it

  • this will be my first bass. If it's just a "little" heavy then I'm in paradise because the bass I've been borrowing for a couple months now is the heaviest fucking bass ever. 1977 P-bass that's been modded to oblivion with a bridge that it shouldn't have, super high action, non-stock pickups, and a super thick neck. all this with the fact that I'm not a big dude and I have very small hands. I'm looking forward to this bass very much.

  • yeah its got a great neck fat to thin plays well takes some adjusting too but not much then again it was my first bass so any first time takes adjusting too :P

  • can anyone tell me if this bass is still on the market?

  • You can still buy one in the UK.

  • it's still readily available everywhere, GC Sam Ash, zZounds, Musicians Friend etc etc just google.

  • Comment removed

  • ...but it's 299 now, guess because it's discontinued. Got mine with a free gig bag just before it went up :)

  • i got mine for 280 bag cost an extra 15

_-_ but there are some places i think you can get for about 199 on the net if your lucky you might find one that ships anywhere

  • I managed to get mine for £220.

  • Fender have actualy discontiued this model but i managed to get one today so happy with it

  • yay i got mines a year ago xD

  • im impressed with the tone of it, but i am saddened that the pickups arnt a little hotter, but hey we bassists arnt appreciated enough anyways

  • Im defos gonna save up 4 one of these basses, sounds realy nice and looks cool 2, very good for the price ;).

any tips 4 a person just strtin to learn slap?

  • yeah...dont settle for one technique...there are tons of ways to slap so if your youtubing for ways to slap keep an open mind...i learned to slap by accident and the way i do it is like no one i've ever seen. so if someone tells you "your doing it wrong" tell'em that its YOUR way of slappin. and dont get discouraged because it is a process

  • Yh thanks very much m8, i always like learning new techniques and things on bass, keeps things interesting, and ill defos bear that in mind and try 2 slap it in a way which feels right for me. cheers 4 the advice :), all the best with ur bass playin matie

  • I also just bought this bass. Can't beat it for this price!

  • of course you have the saddest part of king kong on lol, and i just got this bass today its good

  • Without words its not so much a review as a presentation.

  • don't you have a wikipedia article to edit?

  • what did you do to modify it?

  • comes stock modified

  • FUCK YEAH, I love King Kong!

  • yeah!!! smoking's bad for you though. i thought all was well with the king kong in the background. the bass sounds great!

  • Nice bass and nice playing. Squier makes very good basses. It takes a good player to make a quality instrument shine and you have done that.

  • ooh, is that portrait of tracy i hear?? NICE!!

  • how much does it costs?

  • In the United States, $280

  • sounds really good

  • Have you any tab for part, which you are playng in 1:30. Graet sound :-)

    Thanks

  • that is similar to your standard r 'n' r bass lines. Just look for some old rock and roll.

  • I own that bass, but even after a setup the action is still to high for my taste :(

  • is that first song a Dave Matthews song?

    great sound there

  • wow wat a great bass,i got the vintage p,also awesome, and since my amp is stolen,im jaming through tone port too

  • LOL KING KONG IN BACK ROUND

  • i cant seem to grasp that jazzy sound. Is there some special combos of mid treb and bass to get that or does this bass just come with that good of a sound

  • im just running the tube pre in the line6 tone port flat.. Both pickups on.. Nothing more nothing less.

  • What kind of preamp are you using btw?

  • what kind of amp do u use?

  • No Line6 Toneport GX

  • Portrait of Tracy! I love it.

  • Nice demo. How would you say this bass compares with the classic vibe series from squier?

  • I am thinking of getting this as my back up as opposed to a geddy lee. Doesnt seem like a geddy is worth twice this...but then again i havnt felt this ones neck, cuz the geddys is like butter.

  • nice playing, the harmonics were a nice touch

  • sounds sweet! what'd you modify it with?

  • okay sorry for the stupid what'd you modify it. i thought the title meant the bass was modded by self.

  • fat bottom and clear, mellow top. I'm sure the mid range variances are killer too. Nice :)

  • You should call that piece "KING KONG"

  • thats the next bass im getting!

  • hey man i got this bass today an i love it....the look...the sound everything but i got a question on the E string...do you have a problem with buzz?? everyother string is fine but once i got past the fifth fret on the E string it starts to buzz on every fret reply back please

  • just sounds like a setup issue.. I would take it to the store you bought it at if your unsure how to do it yourself..

  • alright thanks man my friend said i might have to get it noted....cause the strign might e too close to the neck or somthing

  • yeah, all you have to do is get a hex key, a small one probably, and spin it counter-clockwise on the sadle of the E string

that will lift the string away from the frets and hopefully stop the buzzing

but depending on your preferences when playing, you might have to tweak it to get it just right for your taste =]

  • I've also noticed a lot of veteran musicians go through a lot of fancy assed basses in their carrer, and then settle on a jazz bass after all.(I.E: Geddy Lee-Rush, John lodge - Moody Blues, John Ilsley-Dire straits, to name a few...

  • jazz basses are much more versatile then the p bass, you can get a full, deep tone, without being muddy from using the neck p/u or you can get that awesome "Geddy Lee-moving pictures" growl, from using the bridge pickup only, the sound in this video seems to be both pickups together... with the added bonus of both pickups working as a parallel humbucker. still the p-pass is great for holding down the bottom line. still the p bass is the

  • duuuude can you tell me what you start playing at around 00:22???

  • I suggest you should buy a Jazz, P basses sound awfull :)

  • I'm going to buy a fender bass. what would you guys suggest? jazz or precision bass?

  • Jazz, precision not so good

  • Jazz = bright

    Precision = muddy

Try them both and listen to the sound that suits you. Don't listen to jackasses saying you shouldn't buy stuff.

  • yeh it depends what you wanna play :)

  • i like p basses
