i have a shitty bass guitar and i want to buy my first bass (first one was traded for a game) and after trying this one out at guitar center i liked it alot and what impressed me the most was the price..it was such a good sounding bass and im looking forward to buying this one as soon as i get the money
Don't worry your slapping will improve just keep at it. I used to suck at slapping but now I love to slap. Here's a tip try to hit the strings with the bone on the side of your thumb to get a really percussive sound. I find keeping your thumb realitvely straight when slapping increases the quality of the sound.
man I had to modify my Squier it sounded like yours but a luth snapped the truss rod and none of the replacement necks...sounded as good... so I Franken Squiered it..tell me what you think..
i find that slap becomes difficult past the 9th fret. but all the reviews say this isnt an issue and that its 100% brilliant. Is it my bass imperticular or do all of them share this problem. also the action is quite high.
@mdf1010 I like the P-bass. Jazz Bass gives you more range of tone though, I will admit, the P-bass is a little less versatile, but I think the tone you get out of it is better.
@abacaba1977 well me personally im an Ibanez guy. but if your looking for an extremely pure tone, try a Noiser, Moon, or PRS. But with those you have to be willing to put down quite a bit of money
Great guitar! I just bought one and should be here Wednesday! What is the chorded progression from at 0:23? Its gorgeous and would love to learn it! Thanks for all the style variety in your sampling.
The first time you slap is so sick. It's different but sounds decent. The second time is pretty good too. Just a tip is loosening your wrist a little for more speed. Sick bass i want to buy it. And i see you're watching King Kong in the back. Very Nice my friend.
Funny that you say "...I cant slap to save my life..." You started playing 'Sinister Minister' by Flecktones (Victor Wooten), butchered it, then quit... :)
Nice bass. I have had numerous Squiers and with a few glaring exceptions, they've all played and sounded better than the low price tag would suggest. I do, however, suggest changing pups on some of them, pots on most of them, and bridges on all of them.
Fact is, Squiers are basically Fenders with cheaper electronics & hardware.
The "Disappearing D" is even there.
Forget the Squier name on the headstock - save money on the bass, get a versatile amp & still sound good.
Yep. A lot of the Mexican Jazz basses are the same way. It's actually a nice thing, too, because I've seen Squiers retrofitted with either Fender necks or decals posing as American models - that's one way to tell them apart.
Anyway, I generally go for preloaded DiMarzios - pups and pots - in a new pickguard. New Squiers are not feasible to do this, though. You can get a nice used 'real' Jazz for what you'd put into mods on one. This Vintage Modified bass is pretty nice the way it is.
@quehannaband I'm looking at getting a cheap bass rig just for jamming purposes. Which cab do you think is better, the Mesa Boogie 1x15 Powerhouse or Ampeg SVT 1x15?
Just for jamming? Save a BUNCH of bucks and get a Fender Rumble 100. It's got all the noise and punch you need, plus a direct-out if you do end up playing live. I picked one up for $150 on ebay and its awesome. If you do want a high-end one, either of the ones you mentioned are good, but also consider an Ashdown Five Fifteen.
Go to a good store and play them, see if I'm right about that Fender. :)
Not true. I have a 64 jazz fender customshop. It is way lighter than this vintage modified (which I also have...awesome bass btw). I am totally blown away by the squier range however my customshop is very light and has the best tone of ANY bass I have ever played.
I guess it's just a matter of preference. When I play a light bass I fear that it will not have the sustain and tone of a heavy bass (ash body for example). And the lighter body bounces around too much when I play. I'm looking for sustain that last for days and I always get that from ash bodies and heavy-mass bass bridges. Fender stock basses sound too thin and wimpy for me.
dude, i noticed that you couldn't do the part of portrait of tracy where jaco frets a string and does a harmonic on it at the same time. I had to find a different way to do it because my hand's too small. what I do is fret the 4th on the E string and put your pinkie over just past the 7th fret on the same string. then pluck. much easier than the way jaco does it.
i own this bass too for 1 year and I think it's a very good bass wit very good micro. But there is some problem I think with the fret after the 12 and with the G-chord. A real Fender Jazz bass is good and better but this Squier is a really good bass with a nice price
There is absolutely no reason (except greed) that instruments like this at this price point could not be manufactured in North America. Automation and direct factory sales are the answer.
Just the other day, I got a Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass. It sounds great and I'm excited, but, being more of a soft rock kinda guy than a blues guy, I'm wondering if I should return it and get this one instead.
Many people say fretless is great for sliding and all, but that's not really used much in rocks... Isn't it? And without frets, it surely is harder to play.
Should I just suck it up and keep this one? (I had a bit of discount due to its cracked finish on the rear)
put some resin veneer on the neck and put roundwound strings and buy a good preamp or equalizer to modulate the tone just check out my last videos , it was a cort action bass fretted in the before
Hmm... If everyone stopped buying new guitars made overseas and bought locally made, or used guitars the money would be kept in north america. that said i think'll get one of theeese.
Well, I just got one of these simply because I wanted it for recording. Since I am a guitarist and have two hand-made acoustics (one nylon st., one steel st.), a REAL Strat and a REAL Les Paul plus some others, I have to say for what I want it for, it is fine. But if you are essentially a bass player, why then yes you WILL have to eventually get "the real deal", i.e, an American Standard Fender Jazz Bass or whatever they call it. If you have huge, powerful, fatigue-resistant hands..go for it
Don't understand, my hands are on the slender side and I have no issues at all after just lowering the action basically. Now it takes no effort at all to fret notes. It's just about setup, not the instrument.
Not to hurt your feelings, but i can make this bass sound better rather than an American Standard JB. And with proper setup, this bass is just the real deal.
this will be my first bass. If it's just a "little" heavy then I'm in paradise because the bass I've been borrowing for a couple months now is the heaviest fucking bass ever. 1977 P-bass that's been modded to oblivion with a bridge that it shouldn't have, super high action, non-stock pickups, and a super thick neck. all this with the fact that I'm not a big dude and I have very small hands. I'm looking forward to this bass very much.
yeah its got a great neck fat to thin plays well takes some adjusting too but not much then again it was my first bass so any first time takes adjusting too :P
yeah...dont settle for one technique...there are tons of ways to slap so if your youtubing for ways to slap keep an open mind...i learned to slap by accident and the way i do it is like no one i've ever seen. so if someone tells you "your doing it wrong" tell'em that its YOUR way of slappin. and dont get discouraged because it is a process
Yh thanks very much m8, i always like learning new techniques and things on bass, keeps things interesting, and ill defos bear that in mind and try 2 slap it in a way which feels right for me. cheers 4 the advice :), all the best with ur bass playin matie
i cant seem to grasp that jazzy sound. Is there some special combos of mid treb and bass to get that or does this bass just come with that good of a sound
I am thinking of getting this as my back up as opposed to a geddy lee. Doesnt seem like a geddy is worth twice this...but then again i havnt felt this ones neck, cuz the geddys is like butter.
hey man i got this bass today an i love it....the look...the sound everything but i got a question on the E string...do you have a problem with buzz?? everyother string is fine but once i got past the fifth fret on the E string it starts to buzz on every fret reply back please
I've also noticed a lot of veteran musicians go through a lot of fancy assed basses in their carrer, and then settle on a jazz bass after all.(I.E: Geddy Lee-Rush, John lodge - Moody Blues, John Ilsley-Dire straits, to name a few...
jazz basses are much more versatile then the p bass, you can get a full, deep tone, without being muddy from using the neck p/u or you can get that awesome "Geddy Lee-moving pictures" growl, from using the bridge pickup only, the sound in this video seems to be both pickups together... with the added bonus of both pickups working as a parallel humbucker. still the p-pass is great for holding down the bottom line. still the p bass is the
second song.. autumn leaves, isnt it? :)

i cant seem to grasp that jazzy sound. Is there some special combos of mid treb and bass to get that or does this bass just come with that good of a sound

Nice demo. How would you say this bass compares with the classic vibe series from squier?

I am thinking of getting this as my back up as opposed to a geddy lee. Doesnt seem like a geddy is worth twice this...but then again i havnt felt this ones neck, cuz the geddys is like butter.

sounds sweet! what'd you modify it with?
themongster 3 years ago
okay sorry for the stupid what'd you modify it. i thought the title meant the bass was modded by self.
themongster 3 years ago
fat bottom and clear, mellow top. I'm sure the mid range variances are killer too. Nice :)

hey man i got this bass today an i love it....the look...the sound everything but i got a question on the E string...do you have a problem with buzz?? everyother string is fine but once i got past the fifth fret on the E string it starts to buzz on every fret reply back please
choigunz 3 years ago
just sounds like a setup issue.. I would take it to the store you bought it at if your unsure how to do it yourself..
ibanezcollector 3 years ago
alright thanks man my friend said i might have to get it noted....cause the strign might e too close to the neck or somthing
choigunz 3 years ago
yeah, all you have to do is get a hex key, a small one probably, and spin it counter-clockwise on the sadle of the E string
that will lift the string away from the frets and hopefully stop the buzzing
but depending on your preferences when playing, you might have to tweak it to get it just right for your taste =]

I've also noticed a lot of veteran musicians go through a lot of fancy assed basses in their carrer, and then settle on a jazz bass after all.(I.E: Geddy Lee-Rush, John lodge - Moody Blues, John Ilsley-Dire straits, to name a few...
etherialcruiser 3 years ago
jazz basses are much more versatile then the p bass, you can get a full, deep tone, without being muddy from using the neck p/u or you can get that awesome "Geddy Lee-moving pictures" growl, from using the bridge pickup only, the sound in this video seems to be both pickups together... with the added bonus of both pickups working as a parallel humbucker. still the p-pass is great for holding down the bottom line. still the p bass is the

I'm going to buy a fender bass. what would you guys suggest? jazz or precision bass?
norwayking2 3 years ago
Jazz, precision not so good
pcpgorilla 3 years ago
Jazz = bright
Precision = muddy
Try them both and listen to the sound that suits you. Don't listen to jackasses saying you shouldn't buy stuff.
