@rsp83z28 I'm a glad our tax money saved GM. If they went out of business, that would have killed the economy. Hundreds of thousands, if not more would have lost their jobs. -All the suppliers as well. Now GM is outselling Ford & Chrysler. I'm a sales manager at a multi brand dealership, so I've driven most of the new American cars. Even our competitors for reference, and they're all amazing now. All the American cars are a night and day difference versus even ten years ago.
Oh, and that was a Corvette GS Convertible that was given to Eli. It's not $120,000.00
The ZR1 is under $120k... The GS has the base LS3 6.2L 436 HP w/NPP exhaust, engine. Eli probably gave it to a relative or something. He was the MVP of the Super Bowl, that's what they give the MVP no matter who was awarded it. I thought that was awesome.

@Xandrez1122 Everybody dials down the power for racing because it's not like the others can't get over 600 hp out of they're engines, but this commercial is made to appeal to people who don't know anything about racing.
@Xandrez1122 They were referring to the shift from the LeMans class of GT-1 to GT-2, they were required to dial their horsepower down and add some weight to the car in order to race.

I do respect the performance the ZR1 is capable of and I do understand the charm of an American muscle car and I can't wait to see the C7 so that's pretty far from hating the "Vette" but apparently everybody thinks that every non American hates Corvettes, which isn't true.

@oDTheTruth That is true and was tested on the Nurburgring where it did very well. It did it with a world record of 7:59.32 at the time, that is not your grandfathers Caddy.
You do get what you pay for though, although a ZR1 can hang with exotics, they have one of the worst interiors in its segment. But if Chevy say offers sport bucket seats as an option like those found in Callaway tuned vettes, then all will be forgiven.

This Corvette is in the big leagues of performance AND it has a luxurious interior. Lambos and Ferraris start to lack good features like built in touch-screen GPS nav, heated seats, upgrades audio, and all the nice stuff. This ZR1 matches their performance, AND keeps the good stuff inside.
i love how people are saying this is a great every day car...Lets not get away from the fact that this is from Chevy...in about 4 years of owning this car you will pay 3x the price of it to repair it..

i like all the cars (except porche, how they stay competitive is a feat of reality if you ask me) but personally of all the cars that race in this series, id choose the ZR1. because its made in my own continent(from canada so its not my country) they are beautiful for what you pay. they are world known...and they do have a long history that has built itself since the early 50s. id love any of the cars it races.....but id choose a ZR1 first if i had the option...and thats MY option

I am pretty sure we can take it. It is all in fun and in the end we buy what we want anyway! I am an American but I own a Porsche Boxster because it was something I could afford and I like it a lot. @Marshmallowrex the Ring is not the place to go head to head, too many variables. Laguna, VIR, Road America are the places to test how good a car really is. you can look up the times, the Zr1 best all the cars you listed. not by a whole lot but still better on the track. also, all those cars you listed tested with sticky DOT racing tires, the ZR1 ran the ring and all other tracks it was tested on with the tires that come on the car.

The ZR1 beats the Enzo, Zonda R and any Lambo by more than 5 seconds. Beats the GT-R by almost 5 seconds. The Nurburgring is about as toe to toe as it gets. LOL

@jetfighters20fr You, sir, need to spend less time talking smack and more time watching the races. Corvette just won the 2011 GTE Pro class at Le Mans. They also won the GTE Amateur class. They pretty much dominated their class since 2001, sweeping 1st and 2nd in most of their races. Where the hell have you been? You do know that the Audi is an LMP car right? They don't compete against the Corvettes, except for the overall win. There are several classes racing at the same time.

If that was true you wouldn't be able to drive a ZR1 faster than a base corvette because they both have over 400hp so they would be equal performance. The Z06 and ZR1 rear panel is the only thing made of plastic on the body. The rest of the body is carbon fiber. You need to stop getting your car info from top gear. You say you can only use 400 Hp but you recommenced a 500 HP car.
@jetfighters20fr I would like a car that I could drive every day and not be afraid of a dark cloud because it doesn't have a roof. The ZR1 reaches 638 hp at 6500 RPM which is around 55 mph in first gear. So the statement that if you use over 400hp on a street you die is just stupid.

@jetfighters20fr You can use the ZR1 full potential on streets. The only thing you might have a problem doing is reaching its top speed, but it's first 5 gears can be used to its full potential. Style is an opinion.With the exception of a select few Ferrari's and Lamborghini's they give worse rides and have less luxury options then the ZR1, Z06 and GS.

The ZR1 and Z06 are the best street-able performance cars for the money period. Never did I say they were the most luxurious or most comfortable cars. Ferrari and Lamborghini have nothing that can match the ZR1 performance and features.
@jetfighters20fr The only cars that Ferrari and Lambo have that can come close to the ZR1's performance don't have Navagation, bose stereo system, heated seats etc. Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are great cars but I still would choose a ZR1 if it was for a daily driver. Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are ultra high maitinence and need to be serviced often. As a weekend car yeah I would choose a 458 over the ZR1.

The 458 italia is a great car, but would be a horrible daily driver because it has to be serviced every 5k miles for the first 50k. As a daily driver I would choose a ZR1 over a 458. For a weekend car I would choose a 458 over a ZR1.

Viper was effectively dead in 2007 when Chrysler put the brand out for sale. They have made very few Vipers since. Ending the line with a handful of ACR Vipers. Thinly disguised racecars with numberplates built to go round the world setting misleading lap times with full factory backed race crews to create hero status back home and maybe sell some cars abroad. And its working. Now every flagwaving bewildered nutcase quote these laps as conclusive evidence of american superiority.
Lets see... Viper ACR, Saleen S7, Mosler, SSC Aero and... thats the entire list I believe. Of american supercar attempts. Why do you think they bring full race crews to the Nurburgring ? To sit and watch ? Or perhaps they tweak and tune and set the car specifically up for the track. Gear ratio, tyres, suspension, track conditions. What do you think race crews do? I dont doubt their times. Not even americans can fake time. But cars easily can be. There are NO official pictures, press conference, interviews of any of these events. If they were legit, they would have used it in marketing for all its worth. Invite European motor press to smear their "records" in our faces. instead there is nothing. Corvette had to decreese power bc they were to slow in the class that were in so to stay in racing they had to enter the spec settings which is at 450HP and Ferrari took out 130 HP also! haha and corvette sucked bc they didnt even finish close to the top. so get your facts right

@rforracing Not like it's unexpected. The new GT-R was released almost a year and a half after the ZR1 spanked it royaly for the same price. Currently the ZR-1 is greater than the GT-R, but after the GT-R goes on sale for 2012, it will be greater than the ZR-1. But as it stands, Chevrolet already destroyed all of it's competition, so why would they want to waste time getting into another power race with an irrelevant company?

I would take the ZR-1 over the GT-R any day for 3 fundamental reasons: 6 speed manual, American, and is hella fast. The sad thing about a GT-R is that it, at the moment costs about the same price at dealerships as a ZR-1 with no real credible performance gains on it. And lets not forget how picky Nissan is with their warranties and their lack of will to cover any part failure.

Hundreds of thousands, if not more would have lost their jobs. -All the suppliers as well. Now GM is outselling Ford & Chrysler. I'm a sales manager at a multi brand dealership, so I've driven most of the new American cars. Even our competitors for reference, and they're all amazing now. All the American cars are a night and day difference versus even ten years ago.

The ZR1 is under $120k... The GS has the base LS3 6.2L 436 HP w/NPP exhaust, engine. Eli probably gave it to a relative or something. He was the MVP of the Super Bowl, that's what they give the MVP no matter who was awarded it. I thought that was awesome.

I am pretty sure we can take it. It is all in fun and in the end we buy what we want anyway! I am an American but I own a Porsche Boxster because it was something I could afford and I like it a lot. Laguna, VIR, Road America are the places to test how good a car really is. you can look up the times, the Zr1 best all the cars you listed. not by a whole lot but still better on the track. also, all those cars you listed tested with sticky DOT racing tires, the ZR1 ran the ring and all other tracks it was tested on with the tires that come on the car.

If that was true you wouldn't be able to drive a ZR1 faster than a base corvette because they both have over 400hp so they would be equal performance. The Z06 and ZR1 rear panel is the only thing made of plastic on the body. The rest of the body is carbon fiber. You need to stop getting your car info from top gear. You say you can only use 400 Hp but you recommenced a 500 HP car.

Style is an opinion.With the exception of a select few Ferrari's and Lamborghini's they give worse rides and have less luxury options then the ZR1, Z06 and GS.

@jetfighters20fr I would obviously take a Ferrari or Lambo. But the argument wasn't about that. It was about being the best performance car that is street-able for the money. The ZR1 and Z06 are the best street-able performance cars for the money period. Never did I say they were the most luxurious or most comfortable cars. Ferrari and Lamborghini have nothing that can match the ZR1 performance and features.

@jetfighters20fr The only cars that Ferrari and Lambo have that can come close to the ZR1's performance don't have Navagation, bose stereo system, heated seats etc. Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are great cars but I still would choose a ZR1 if it was for a daily driver. Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are ultra high maitinence and need to be serviced often. As a weekend car yeah I would choose a 458 over the ZR1.

The 458 italia is a great car, but would be a horrible daily driver because it has to be serviced every 5k miles for the first 50k. As a daily driver I would choose a ZR1 over a 458. For a weekend car I would choose a 458 over a ZR1.

In Europe there are litterally 100 top end hypercars, supercars, GT cars and track cars with new ones coming out every month and you think bankrupt Viper and cheapass Corvettes that are virtually unchanged for 6 years are actually competitive.

This is the last year of the C6 vette and the current viper. How about the Murcilago and Gallardo both had 10 year production runs. F430 was 6 years, same with the 360. The 996 911 was 8 years. You bash US companies when all the European companies are doing the same. So you comparing over 50 Euro companies to less then a dozen US.

Viper was effectively dead in 2007 when Chrysler put the brand out for sale. They have made very few Vipers since. Ending the line with a handful of ACR Vipers. Thinly disguised racecars with numberplates built to go round the world setting misleading lap times with full factory backed race crews to create hero status back home and maybe sell some cars abroad. And its working. Now every flagwaving bewildered nutcase quote these laps as conclusive evidence of american superiority.

Lets see... Viper ACR, Saleen S7, Mosler, SSC Aero and... thats the entire list I believe. Of american supercar attempts. Steel tubular chassis as seen in racecars since the 60s with enormous engines and gearing, clutch, drivetrain, everything down to the cupholders lifted out of other, exsisting cars then fill in the rest with prefabricated race parts and Recaro, Sparco, mailorder catalogue race interior. Shout BEST IN THE WOOOORLD, sell 20 cars and go bankrupt. America try harder... Please.

"with full factory backed race crews" Race crews don't make the car go faster and has nothing to do with lap times. Chevy only did 3 laps around the ring 2 for the zr1 and 1 for the Z06. Nissan and Lexus came with race teams and I recall Ferrari doing the same thing for the 599xx. Again your bashing American companies when every other company is doing the same EXACT thing.

Why do you think they bring full race crews to the Nurburgring ? To sit and watch ? Or perhaps they tweak and tune and set the car specifically up for the track. Gear ratio, tyres, suspension, track conditions. What do you think race crews do? You need to inject Kennedy grade patriotism directly into your eyeballs if you think you can pick up a normal Viper or Corvette from the dealer and do a 7 minute Nurburgring lap with it.

The difference is... That all these other companies. Are making new stuff every year and arent trying to pass these laps off as anything else than what it is. Media stunts. They arent trying to pass them off as road legal, perfectly un-modified vehicles.
Porsche has had permanent test facilities at the Ring for 50 years. Surely they are allowed to do as they like in their own god damn backyard. They are making sportscars / supercars very successfully and arent reliant on wild claims.

I dont doubt their times. Not even americans can fake time. But cars easily can be. There are NO official pictures, press conference, interviews of any of these events. If they were legit, they would have used it in marketing for all its worth. Invite European motor press to smear their "records" in our faces. instead there is nothing. Only a video poking out the window showing me the track and the time. YOU have no evidence these runs were legit. Therefore you shouldnt believe it.

@whothaplaya it completely depends on the ferrari, pretty much any lamborghini is how you described it but the ferrari ff or what not is pretty much a ridiculously high performance everyday car and has 2 + 2 seating which even the zr1 doesnt have and in power an average ferrari has less but handling wise a typical ferrari has it anyday so it's more a matter of opinion

LS5 or LS9 is still the same Garbage technology! there nice motors but theres absolutely nothn special about them at all! ferrari and porsche make almost the same power using half the size motor. that is why u pay double the price. and corvette is made like shit! they all break on racetracks if there stock and the average person that drives one cant even push 50% of what the car has bc there to scared of the power so they get smoked by a GT3 with 200hp less haha

I just only say : Imported cars can't beat American cars such as mustang, camaro, challenger, charger, viper, saleen s7, ford gt, and even corvette. in my opinion, these cars represent the speed and muscle which is "manly cars", whereas Japanese cars and European cars look "gay" to me. thumps up if you are "American car lovers"

@rforracing Not like it's unexpected. The new GT-R was released almost a year and a half after the ZR1 spanked it royaly for the same price. Currently the ZR-1 is greater than the GT-R, but after the GT-R goes on sale for 2012, it will be greater than the ZR-1. But as it stands, Chevrolet already destroyed all of it's competition, so why would they want to waste time getting into another power race with an irrelevant company?

I would take the ZR-1 over the GT-R any day for 3 fundamental reasons: 6 speed manual, American, and is hella fast. The sad thing about a GT-R is that it, at the moment costs about the same price at dealerships as a ZR-1 with no real credible performance gains on it. And lets not forget how picky Nissan is with their warranties and their lack of will to cover any part failure.
