  • That is an insanely awesome radio setup you have there! How much solar power is needed to power all of this stuff?

  • @nomoreremakes

One 40 Watt panel can easily keep the entire station running under normal conditions. But, that does not count using an inverter for the computer - the computer will quickly draw down the entire station as it takes more current that what's used by my QRP transmitters, etc.

  • @zeekzilch Only one 40 watt panel can power all of this stuff? That's amazing!

I am transfixed by your setup. I would get lost in here all day, if I were at your house. You'd have to kick me out, dude. LOL!

  • @nomoreremakes

Thanks! But, my station is really small and modest by most standards but I like to keep things simple...

  • oh ok i see the Morse Machine... this is cool dude

  • Yes, everything is solar powered except the computers - although I have an inverter for those, as well. The Morse machine is for sending code - it's not being used in this video - what you're hearing are "live" Morse code transmission on the amateur radio 20 meter band - fun stuff!

  • well, it isnt the easiest thing to do, but i have set up 9 systems around the county and after the adjustment period... all is good.

let me know if i can ever be of help. i design and sell systems and could probably save you a few bucks. operating on a shoestring here so i dont have to make much.

  • offgrid for 11 yrs now. WAS and DXCC on solar, kept the ice cream and beer cold too. not easy but if you got wind and sun, you can get electricity. 73- N3GAD

  • Good job N3GAD! I hope to get completely off the grid someday myself! - WB0JNR

  • sry we couldn't c ur ant or solar panel. I'll check out ur other vblog. Only place I can c to run solar year round would be the desert. What do you do when it's been cloudy for a week and your batteries run down? break out the candle power?

  • Nice solar powered radio shack. Sorry I couldn't recognize the equipment, though. Lots more solar activity now and not just from "doomsday" operators.

  • That looks great.

I would like to see an up-close rundown of The Morse Machine. What is it?

  • good shack...
