Nice film, but I think that the beginning is a little over dramatized. I don't think it was necessary for the waitress to talk so much to the detective--you could have cut that part out. And as for the detective, i don't think it was entirely necessary either for the detective to read aloud what was on the paper (You could have simply shown the document close up, with the most important words such as "suicide" in focus) Besides that, excellent independent film! Make more!! :)
Hi, That was very good! What software did you edit with and what file format did you save it in to upload to youtube Hope we see more from you guys. Thanks
I thought it was a pretty strong short, but the audio could be cleaned up. I dont just look at the overall concept. I went to school for multimedia as well as media studies and broadcasting, and I thought the audio levels were insanely loud at times, had to keep changing the volume. but great piece, def. would like to see the entire story.
I'd like to see it spanned out over a longer film. The characters and plot were plenty interesting. I'm curious though, in the script what came before the meeting at the restaurant? Also, was the attraction to the waitress sexual only? It seemed as though she copped a bit of an attitude from the get go. The p.i. definitely can carry the role. Why pursue the suicide angle first? It felt as though all the questions for the bartender were slanted that way? How can I read the script?
Thanks for your comments, it's encouraging for independent filmmakers like ourselves. In the script there is one scene before the one you see in the video, it's of the mother finding her son hanging. It's sort of a credit sequence panning through his room showing you different items, building up the character of Ron.
I would say yes, his attraction was sexual only. Later in the movie they do go on a date, and it's doesn't go as well as Kevin would expect.
He's pursuing the suicide angle first because we are approaching this movie from the viewpoint of what a real life detective would do. Usually his job is mundane, stake out cheating husbands, serve court papers, ect. This case comes along and to him he sees parents who just cannot believe their son killed himself. They are paying his company to investigate, so it's his job to go through the motions interview the friends, dig around a bit and basically confirm that he did in fact kill himself.
It's more then likely that he has had a few cases like this in the past, and it's always ended the same way.
Of course this is a movie and for this case he starts to find some information that leads him to believe that this case might be different. However, we still aim to keep it in the real world. This isn't detective film noir.
We do have a feature length script, but right now it's only available to potential producers. The book the script is based on is available on Amazon, and there is a link on the info portion of this video.
Interesting real life plot, somewhat close to home, though I am not in denial about my son coming home from the Navy after first Gulf war an alchoholic who lives on aid from others. I appreciated the local Seattle views and hope Dick's gives you some funding for you next film.

This is all that we made. Just shot these scenes over a weekend. If you want more of the story you can check out the book, available on Amazon.
We would love to make the entire movie with an actual budget one day.
