The fact that our music was the MOST popular music in all the main stream media from 81-91 was great and everything, But when that time had passed we barely lost any actual popularity. When real music fans dont get offered real music on radio, they go find it, buy it, go to concerts and support it. I've been a Whitesnake fan since 83 and then worked my way back with Coverdale into Purple. This was quite embarrassing to watch. Saw them in 89 and they were headlining and were perfect. It was Coverdale/Sarzo/Vai/Aldrich/just not sure about second guitar but the pollution in my system that night prevents me from remembering. Great White was the opening act and they were completely horrible.

Come on people stop dissecting it...nobody expects Whitesnake to play Deep Purple tunes, it's tongue in check, it wasn't a serious attempt. Amusing for those of us who know Coverdales roots.
The problem here is that, while Coverdale sings the verse the band (listen espec to the guitars) plays the main riff. Besides, the key player starts the chorus way too early and when the band actually plays the chorus, the bass fucks it up. You wouldn't expect such a thing when it comes to Whitesnake, would you?

I dont think that thats actually true, in fact i beleive he didnt even wanna play this one, with thought on how great he made it without deep purple, and hes usually not a bad singer, i saw Whitesnake 2006 and he was awesome live, he amazed me in a way no singer has ever done... makes me sad to face the truth that this was a poor performance of his, although i still hold on to that hes a great singer

Got the LIVE DVD from this show and seriously this si the absolutley funniest song they perform. I mean come on what happened in the end? Vandenberg and Sarzo are good looking as hell.

Agreed, Yet, You have to take the location into a account. That was only three years post-Glasnost(the breakup of the USSR). The citizens of the former USSR were still learning the freedoms they didn't have under communist rule. In terms of the lack of fans in this video, one of those freedoms could be promoting and, what to do with it.
Actually there are a lot of bands who can't play this. The song is much more difficult than you'd assume, any buffoon can hit hit the notes, playing it is a whole different thing.
Coverdale used to sing this brilliantly, Whitesnake 1994 just wasn't rehearsed and prepared for it

I dont think that thats actually true, in fact i beleive he didnt even wanna play this one, with thought on how great he made it without deep purple, and hes usually not a bad singer, i saw Whitesnake 2006 and he was awesome live, he amazed me in a way no singer has ever done... makes me sad to face the truth that this was a poor performance of his, although i still hold on to that hes a great singer
P.S if coverdale had puted more enthusiasm into it i think he couldve made this a great version

Well it's not Coverdale's fault, the band is playing the riff the whole time, even on the verse. That makes the vocals sound wrong. i think it wouldn't be very nice if they would rehearsed it before the gig...

The citizens of the former USSR were still learning the freedoms they didn't have under communist rule. Actually there are a lot of bands who can't play this. The song is much more difficult than you'd assume, any buffoon can hit hit the notes, playing it is a whole different thing.
Coverdale used to sing this brilliantly, Whitesnake 1994 just wasn't rehearsed and prepared for it
