@JordanCedeno follow through the ball and hold it higher... when the punt is off still pretend you are kicking it so you follow through and keep your leg straight...leg lock is on of the most important things
Good job. I was just letting all the people that are watching and reading this that if they are not getting the ball to turn over they should give it a try. Not trying to take away from your glory days.
@stelter82 Oh ok...I get comments on other videos with people trying to tell me how to adjust my technique...kids who haven't been doing this for almost 20 years like i have so i was just assuming it was another of those lol! and yes..you are right...thanks for sharing!
@finklekicker hey im english so ive only just got into american football i usually play QB and also like to play in RB and kick off/punts etc so in matches can you only play in one position or could i play in QB and take punts and kickoffs etc
@FALLENFORFISH you can play as many positions as your ability will allow but most coaches want you to play only one and become proficient at that position
@finklekicker The nose slightly in and down is how you get the ball to turn over. Try your drop with the nose slightly down next time, you might notice that the ball will not only spiral, but it will turn over and go farther.
Hello, I enjoyed your video it helped me clear some things up on form. I'm and currently a varsity punter for my high school. My punts are usually 40 from the line of scrimmage that 13 yards back, with usually mid 4's to 5 on occasion. Is this normal for my age, or do you think I have an advantage going for a scholarship ?
@gowaddict22 sure man...i can believe a 4.5 to a 5 second hang time rather than a 7 second hang a 13 year old said he was getting...just keep working and strive too get better each day...4 second hang times are great and an average 40 yard punt in high school is excellent! feel free to send me a video and i'll take a look at it to help you any way i can!
@EATMYASS122895 ...my point was i think you are exaggerating your hang time and distance...if your saying you are hitting 7 second hang times...that would mean that you are better than a pro...i seriously doubt this. not saying that you aren't good...i obviously have never seen you but i have never seen anyone punt like that so the odds of a 14 year old being able to do that is rubbish.
@EATMYASS122895 ...yeah spirals are the way it's supposed to be done but as far as your hang time..i don't think your hang time is accurate and this is why. i've never seen any punter even in the pros have a 7 second hang time and only on one other occasion have i heard of anyone getting close to a 6 second hang time and that was ray guy. on average, nfl punters reach about 45 yards with a little over a 4.5 sec hang. if you do get 6 and 7's you need to forget high school and go pro now
woah, that was a great kick, but when do the ball and your foot make contact? i think i hit it a little too early, the ball is equil and in level with my knee is that okay?
@AnimeCrazedd ... it depends...if you are punting into the wind you will drop it lower and your foot will make contact a closer to the ground. if the wind is at your back you will drop it higher and will make contact at your waist or close to it... if there is no wind, then you will make contact close to your knee droping it at your waist or slightly above. hope that helps
woah, that was a great kick, but when do the ball and your foot make contact? i think i hit it a little too early, the ball is equil and in level with my knee is that okay?
Could you estimate about how much hang time and distance the spiral adds? I've been trying to learn to punt and I'm hitting about 35-40 yard punts without spirals so I would like to know about how much farther I could hit it.
@irefusetodie ... it's hard to say but i would guess another 10 to fifteen yards. spirals increase distance and hangtime because it works with the wind letting it stay in the air longer and go farther. the atmosphere doesn't catch end over end kicks like it will with a spiral.
thanks so much man....i used to be defensive end and quarterback in high school... but i dislocated my sholder and missed my senior year and my dream is to play for ohio state so im tryin to teach myself how to punt lol and this video helped a ton man thanks...
threw the uprights from the 35 yard line, so thats like a 45-50 yard punt, i did have wind at my back but i think its decent. do you have any tips to get a few extra yards? i have a good spin which i think is good, most of my friends have an end over end punt. so yea, thanks for the help.
ok first i like your videos, i watched the kickoff and the punting one. the first thing i noticed that i had to say was before you do your punts you spin the ball, catch it, adjust the laces up and kick it. i do this when i practice punting but i thought i was just wierd, do most people do this when practicing? and other thing ive never measured how far i kick cause im in highschool but i dont play football i just love punting. (never done soccer btw) but in gym class i made a punt threw the....
most punters do spin it before they punt... you're not weird... it's not something that is taught.. it's just something to simulate catching a snap... it's kind of a natural thing that I, nor any other punter, thinks about when it is done... the distance you are getting is good... stretch a lot and do a lot of core (abdominal) exercises to get more distance.
when you hit a spiral and hit it correctly it will turn over the same way throwing a pass will. have you ever thrown a spiral that didn't turn over? it's because you didn't hold it or release it properly. maybe holding the back of the ball? same thing with a punt. if you don't hit the fat part of the ball it won't turn over. it'll happen where it doesn't turn over time to time but you'll get to the point where it will do it most of the time... i still have some that don't turn over sometimes.
don't hold it that way... it may be hard to adjust but always hold the ball in the same hand of the foot that you kick with. i've seen people try to do this. DON'T! it's to hard and your drop won't be consistent
Is it good if im 13 abd my average punt is 40 yds?
