Venetian snares(search "twirl") at his best times touched aphex' genius just in a very basic way.Indeed venetian has more complex breaks, but they are composed parallel to his melodies..they fit to each other, but they don't grow from exactly the same idea, so there consists the "little" gap between both artists

James, which was 1996, but he has released quite a lot of music since then: the enormous Analord collection, Drukqs and the 26 Mixes for Cash to mention three. And you can't deny that 54 Cymru Beats is - for abt 25 seconds at the end - one of the best tracks ever made. Don't give up on Aphex. He is the man.

Basically SAWII is a masterpiece an unrepeatable peak of creativity. All music produced since fails to measure up to this high benchmark. But so what this earlier stuff has been ghosting through my life since the early 90s and I've never felt bored with it.
