Hi Scott, I've done this exercise many times (which I love to do), and I've double-checked my form. However, why do I seem to feel it more in my upper quads than I do in my abs?
i thought sitting on your hands was bad because it makes the exercise easier?
but anyway, my problem with this is that no matter how tight i keep my core, i can do the kicks just fine, but my back keeps arching up and up to the point where it hurts and i have to stop before my abs have actually done anything significant. how do i prevent this? i usually just do variations of leg raises because it doesn't strain my back much at all.
@cmgreen4 the purpose of placing your hands under your butt is to support your lower back..so..if you're not doing that because you think it makes the exercise easier..that's why your back is hurting.. :)
My advice. Don't sit on your hands. Strech your arms, place arms flat on ground and avoid sitting on them. Remember to look at your feet while you are doing the exercise.
@g4yktzgjx6 I dont think its a good idea to keep your neck bent while doing this because it leaves strain on your neck and spine when lifting your legs, I used to do these at the gym and its hard on the neck if you look at your feet in that position

Check out "superflo" who does over 1000 reps non stop, or "gonzomax1" who does 125 leg extensions and a 5 minute leg hold. Love to see this guy go for a personal best at these!
Hey I have a question when you're trying to get bigger biceps you're surpose to pack on the carbs right? but when you're trying to get a 6 pack you're surpose to do lots of cardio to loose body fat on you're stomach so how are you able to get bigger biceps while trying to get a 6 pack? please reply with any useful answers thanks.
you always need lots of carbs. If you have more body fat then you need to do more cardio so your muscles will be more defined. If your skinny like me you need to focus on those muscle groups in order to make them bigger.. I do Leg lifts off of a weight bench for my abbs and am on my way to a six pack from one exercise. I hope this helped you out some. :)
@Mr3ly I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that he works out and films very early in the morning, late at night or when the gym doesn't have that many other people in it.

I've been doing flutter kicks for months, but I was doing them wrong. I never had my legs straight, so I always felt the "burn" in my thighs and not my abs. It was not until recently that the instructor pointed this out to me.
You should show how to do the cross-scissor kicks. They are a great combo with the flutter kicks, switching anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute between the two.
Okay, I realized today that I always wind up watching new SHF videos for the first time while eating my lunch or dinner. Now I really feel like a lazy fatty. Maybe its just a coincidence or time thing. But, I found it ironic. Carry on.

Why are you taking such short kicks? They're supposed to be a bit slower, and higher up. Larger range of motion.
