Having any "all-powerful and all-knowing" character be actively involved in events completey removes and sense of tension or urgency to the story. The book hammers into the reader the idea that he's meant to be a "good guy" but the books very high body count is almost entirely his doing. And this Jesus guy was proportionally hardly in it.

This can be an interesting idea if it's meant to build some sort of mystery about what happened like in some thriller novels, but here it's not used at all and only confuses anyone patient enough to continue reading at this point. The Bible has gone over so many reiterations but none of them haven't inproved it at all. Perhaps The Bible is a Twilight-before-Twilight...
