  • whos craig?

  • yeah he makes a face at the end, he prolly thinks - was I embarassing myself? maybe I shouldn't have done this?

  • More coke anyone...?

  • We lost to Awesome artists the very same day :(

RIP Freddy Mercury and Eric Carr (Drummer from KISS)

  • God Bless David Bowie, he has prayed fromo his heart...yes God Bless Queen and All The World

  • um, it was Easter Monday. how offensive to offer a public prayer on Easter Monday? a wonderful, pure, spiritual act that took b***s. still one of the guttsiest things he ever did.

  • I know now why I have always loved David Bowie. We are brothers in Christ.

  • Whatever you think about it, David was the only one who said a prayer in this concert! I find this very touching.

  • Ewwwww. Arse-clenchingly embarrassing.

  • @damedavid I do concur, it's a damned shame he got slagged rotten for it - it was a very touching thing to do.

I feel the strain of trying to do anything Christian nowadays, but that's beside the point.

  • Bowie has been through very many religious and spiritual phases. He grew up nominally Christian, studied Buddhism (to the point of being one of the first artists to speak out in favour of Tibet and considered being a Zen monk), was briefly into Nietzche and Crowley, and has gone through existential periods. He married Iman, who as far as I know is still a practicing Muslim. He's definitely not a strick materialist.

I think he thought this was appropriate at the time. It's certainly a nice read.

  • Definitely the best way to combat the disease & Bonus points for it taking place at a rock concert.

  • Happy Birthday Freddie, rest in peace.

  • Interesting but I understood why he did it.

  • My name is Craig, and I got such a shock when he looked right at the camera and said "I know you're watching Craig."

  • I remember this moment so well and think of it often - God bless you David Bowie x

  • get real everyone it was bloody embarrissing.

  • @shaftsbury94 I was all right with it. I see nothing wrong with it. I thought it was a nice gesture on Bowie's part. How do you feel it was embarrassing? Just curious

  • Wow!! God Bless David Bowie for taking a very courageous moment at this concert. Whether truly sincere, or not, it took a lot of guts to this at a rock concert.

  • @rgarcia77 If we have just one chance to meet again Freddie it's because The Lord's Prayer is true!

  • @uccio258 Amen! to that!

  • God answers all sorts of prayers, but after Bowie recites "The Lord's Prayer" and gets ready to walk off stage, he makes a face. Wonder if he wasn't sincere... And I hate to say such a thing about him. I absolutely LOVE Bowie. But he's been known to not be a real religious person. So maybe it made him feel a bit out of place.

  • @piratefreak07 It's true that he is a self-claimed non-religious person, but he is spiritual, and perhaps he believes that everyone has an undying soul that goes somewhere after death. I think he made that face to try and hold back tears. Freddy Mercury was a dear freind of his and he really hopes he went to a better place, perhaps even to exist with a God. David Bowie has never done anything that he was forced to do or didn't want to do. I believe he prayed because he felt compelled to.

  • @piratefreak07 I agree about Bowie making that face. Actually, I think he was mocking Freddie, as frivolous as that may sound.

  • I agree this took a lot of guts on Bowie's part, especially in atheist Britain.

  • Had he done this today and he'd be mocked by stupid atheist-poser hipster brats.

Reading some comments, I can't but think some atheists' attiude is as a true fundamentalist Taliban.

  • Is this for real?! Who does he think he is, Cliff Richard?

  • I love him for that. (not only)

  • Beautiful!

  • this is why david bowie is such a respected gentleman and musician

  • 0.43

    "Nice one Dave!"

Go on Dave, stick death up satan's ring piece.

  • beautiful, God bless us all

  • It looks as if we have an atheist in the house...

  • A rather touching moment.

  • I cant tell if this is a geniune christian act...or just Bowie being a bit "avant-garde"...

  • What a great scene. At the very end it seemed like he was going to start crying.

    And yes, God Bless Queen!

  • God bliss you David Bowie. Another great reason why I love him!

  • who dared to press the dislike button? anyway he didn't succed. this is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen! We love you Freddie!!

  • He said the Lord's prayer in front of untold millions of people, most of whom he knew probably wouldn't know what to think of it, and some of whom would not be happy about it...... but yeah, who knows if he believes in God.

  • Religeon and Christianity aren't mutually exclusive, but then, Christ is for EVERYBODY, so it's possible to be a Christian and not be religeous. I don't even think you have to be conscious that you're a Christian to be a Christian. Merry Christmas.

  • i love bowie

  • WAS HE TAKing the piss?

  • @Stube437 honestly... i cant tell!!

  • happy birthday Freddy

  • beautiful...I love David

  • Who is Craig????

  • @Eingana01 Craig was a Bowie's dear friend from New York who was in the last stage of an AIDS-related illness. He died 2 days after this public prayer.

  • I don't believe in god but I admire david for taking the time to think of those less fortunate- and of course I'll always love his music- thanks david!

  • beautifully said, God bless DB

  • I remember I watched this concert all the time when I was little... and I've always wondered... why did he nod at the end of his prayer?

  • What a great tribute to a friend:)

  • I don't think he's religious either, but I do believe he is spiritual to some degree and that he felt driven to do what he did here. I don't think it took guts so much as faith in his one feelings. David Bowie seems to do what he feels driven to do at the moment, or, at least he did here. I'm glad he did. He broke the mold, once again, as usual.

  • It was one of his stranger moments, particularly as he isn't religous.

  • How do you know??

  • because he said so, several times.

a specific example would be interview 1993; in reference to the logic behind the theme of his wedding.

  • @arabiansanchez Maybe not religious but a very spiritual man always looking for.

  • profound, touching, deep, pure ... you gotta have gulls to pray in a crowded stadium .... I'll never forget this... David Bowie: man, you teach us a lesson .... TX!

  • Aww.

  • je pleure, c'est malin pfffff

  • What a powerful moment that was. Thank you David. In the name of Jesus.

    Amen

  • Amen

  • wow

  • Wow, it wan't very rock star but fuck, if you like someone's music then you like their music and to say you can't listen to him just from that proves u were not a very big fan to start off with.

  • totally agree with you !

  • that was great.

(and because it's me: he looks great in his torquise suit)

  • ...bowie...saying the lords prayer. O_o.....our buddhist/"energy force" believer. =( i like his views in the 70's!

  • That was so true, so sincere... Thank you, David.

  • THANKS FOR THIS, David!

  • his face at 1.28...

  • relief, I suppose over how a gutsy yet classy move like that was received. There is only one such as Bowie.

  • amen to that

  • Thanks God for our brothers. God bless U.

  • Style and grace

  • Sytle and grace

    Amen

  • gods don´t prayer!!

  • Why the hell did he make the CD Heathen - Bit of Heathen?

  • @gezzad Because Heathen is more about the quest for faith. He said that he's so angry at the idea of death that Life has become his stronger belief and that it may sounds a bit pagan, so he named the album "Heathen", but he addresses to God in a very beautiful way in the song "I would be your slave". You hear that one and won't think again Bowie is an atheist or a pagan.

  • beautiful. Bowie is beautiful.

    Stunning moment.
