What a beautiful song! I heard a version of it on a rerun of "My So-Called Life". I couldn't figure out who did it originally. That led me to Charlie Rich ( who wrote it), to this wonderful version ( Tom Jones is one of the bluesiest vocalists!) with one of my favorite guitar players Mark Knopfler. After all that, i realized i had this song on the "Notting Hillbillys" album.Thought it sounded familiar. :-)
@vegard1403 Nice! thanks for the heads up i had never heard of The Walkabouts, great version. It's such a fine song! Charlie Rich's original version without all the production on it, is also beautiful.
His hands were gifted by God, How can a guitar be played so plainly and elegantly? a stunning guitar craftsmanship from Knopfler, and one more thing: FUCK ALL THOSE RAP CRAP, THIS WHAT I CALL REAL MUSIC...
He makes his perfect, beautiful playing look totally effortless. Looking at his face it doesn't even look like he is playing. It is indeed like that guitar has a voice of it's own.
When he plays his guitar like that, it's not just a musical instrument, but it's more like another singer with a voice of its own, and you feel surely it could be translated into real words, just like a foreign language.
I was able to catch Tom Jones live about one year ago and I was amazed at the way he could dance and perform. He was very hot ,and I dont care what age groupwas there. he was non generational.kudos to both Mark and Tom and thank you for this inspiring post.^v^
Mark Knopfler's guitar is always so soothing to me. Don't know if he's the best guitarist, but he's definitely one of them. It's hard to put that title on just one person. Every great guitarist has their own special sound. I just love the sound of Mark's playing. Sweet sounds.
I just love Mark´s way of being human and modest - so down to earth..... He know he´s one of the worlds best guitarists, but still he seems so shy and humble when he perform...

Great performance for both Tom and Mark.. a lot of guys can play guitar, and play it well, but Mark has a gift that can just make that guitar " sing" the way he plays it.. Listen to each note, each note just speaks out as he picks them....
@MightGetLucky I believe Tom called Mark Mike the first two times at Mark's motel door, but someone must have corrected Tom as he called him Mark when he invited him to the stage. Try another listen for this and I think you'll pick up on it.
@MightGetLucky Try another listen and I think you'll hear Tom call Mark Mike twice at Mark's motel door. He got it correct when he got on stage; someone must have corrected Tom. Anyway, I'm sure they both walked away with a performance neither will forget.

I think the sound on this is great, really suits the Les Paul, however on the record he uses his gorgeous Pensa Shur, and it has the greatest tone of any guitar ever. Amazing.
Fantastic performance as usual from the great MK.. And he is such a modest sounding man,and makes it look easy! First class video, thanks for putting up.

great great song....but jesus...Tom Jones doesn't come anyway near as good as the original one. Also. Love Mark on the Les Paul as well. But his tone was sooo much better in the 80s and 90s...

Wow, this is some choice quality stuff. Each of us come to crossroads in our lives where we must make a decision as to which path to follow. and the tone of synths, awesome too :) Since I play not only electric guitar, but keyboards too, I can hear beauty of this instruments in knopfler's songs
