  • These NPR guys have the funnest jobs ever - hiring great musicians from all walks of life and letting them play on their radio show, while they get to kick back, relax, and listen to the various works of sonic art. I envy these people :)P

  • I love this every time.

  • First, Sam Phillips is HOT (as is that blond sitting behind her). Now that that's out of the way, in the video, her performance is a bit upstaged (visually) in the beginning, by the violin. I've never seen a musical instrument that size, played, that was so odd looking.

  • what a duo... sam and T Bone

  • what a weird instrument lol!

    What is this exactly?

    nice music!

  • @Guulasch they indicated in the video it's a stroh violin and youtube doesn't let me paste links to wikipedia :)

  • one of my favorites so far. This and Rodrigo Y Gabriela. I like music that isn't as floaty or light...i like heavy hearted music. :)

  • I love this! Thanks for posting it here and for all the great work you do, you NPR people!

Sam always comes across very well on Youtube - there's something about her voice and her music and her personality that seems able to transcend the limitations of the format. An artist for today!

  • beautiful

  • Good stuff! But how about using a real violin? The tin can fiddle is an interesting gimmick..but the sound?

  • Huh.. I thought it sounded pretty good- pretty much like a violin.. keep in mind they were not close-mic-ing it ... mighta sounded even better if they had a mic near that horn. Certainly it's a bit of a curiosity-some might say a novelty- but I

appreciate seeing such a rare & unusual

instrument. Oh, yeah, I love Sam, too!! What a cool & unusual voice!!

  • dude...sounded sweet!

  • This is absolutely excellent music. Amazing!

  • Whats the name of the first song? Awesome!

  • sister rosetta goes before us

  • watched this last year...awesome to watch it again. Sam rocks.

  • bitchin!
