First off, your intro gets an 11 out 10. I got a good laugh out of that. However, the difference between the two water mellon ruptures appears to be the angle of penetration more than anything. Also consider no two watermellons are exactly the same consitancy, shape, and weight. This is where balistic gellatin shines. Pretty much all .357 loads produce more energy than .45 ACP. Try it again with gellatin, and see what you get, if you can.

@slt223 I shot from the same spot into the watermelons but I picked them up on the side of the road from a stand. They weren't all the same. And I believe my revolver needs to be sighted in better. The 1911 was built custom and the aim is perfect for me, so it produced a better shot I think.

I have been plannoing on doing a video on ballistic gell and all the various rounds I can get my hands on to do testing of all of them. My time has been very limited this year, but it is in the wroks.

you never mentioned the weight or type of the .357 magnum round used. to have a fair test i would go with a 125 grain JHP premium defense load just like the 45 you used. and maybe a longer barrel. a 45 is actually no match for a .357 magnum.

@waseem1173 : I agree with your point. Especially in a personal-defense situation, I would rather the round do what the .357 did in his example than the .45. Liability follows the bullet, and I'd rather just vaporize the attacker's guts than go to prison for killing an innocent bystander. That's why I use the .357mag 125gr. semi-jacketed HP.

The .357 did not have as drastic results as the .45 becuase you did not hit the watermelon dead center. .357 runs circles around .45, look at other youtube videos of people who know how to accurately shoot the .357. But I guess if you are unable to handle the recoil of the .357 the .45 would be more "effective" for you.
