What are Fake Antiviruses and how to protect yourself from them

k so i have spyware soft or what ever it's called. real annoying, won't let me open anything, obvious i have a virus.. so i open in safe mode, run malwarebytes for an hour only to fucking tell me that it found no infected objects.... WTF??? SERIOUSLY?? can you help out at all man, i woulde very much appreciate it.

I had a bad one today. It renamed Malwarebytes executable. When I tried to re-install it did it again. This happened even in safe mode.

Make sure you backup your install directory in a .zip file somewhere on your machine just as a precaution.  Maleware is no longer immune to windows Safemodes.

I use Malwarebytes realtime protection and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. :)

Yeah, But The one you said it coulden't open ( The rogue that didn't let you do anything). Go to safe mode and open malwarebytes there and scan it. Job done.

XP Smart Security wont be gone after the scan either... Its a bit more to remove it than just doing a scan. Its a pretty special rogue, I dont know how, but after Malwarebytes(or any other scan) it just pops up again on boot. Locating and tricking the file is a lot of work...
