  • true honky tonky sound

  • This is awesome. Love it, Jamey did it justice!

  • This is one of the few modern singers that can do this song with out deserving a a punch in the face from the "Longhaired Redneck" DAC.

  • I fucking knew it---what i would give to sing "Golden Ring" with you someday---or anything Waylon----damn---you are old school real country :-)

  • Three people I have seen live and know for a fact put on a hell of a show are Jamey, Justin Moore, and Randy Houser, but out of all of them, Jamey was the best. He was just so amazing.

  • i was there when the red red headed stranger changed the whole dam world Waylon, Wille and me! outlaw music! Jamie you bringing it back son just keep on keeping on1

  • Jamey...i raise my glass to you brother...there aint many people tryin to keep the old TRUE country music alive but thanks to you brother...itll be around hopefully another decade!

  • hell yeah. now thats the stuff

  • Singing his dick OFF.

  • owned!

  • Pheww jamey sure does like like waylon in this video

  • I won't waste anyone's time giving my opinion on how unbelievable this musician is...........I AM FAR MORE HAPPY THAT HE HAS ACHIEVED THE SUCCESS HE DESERVES in this day and time. I honestly wouldn't have believed it if i didn't see it. Gives me at least a lil hope for this country yet!

  • this is probably the best version of this song I've ever heard...and I thought Tim McGraw's version was ok...this sent chills down my back that was AWESOME!

  • hahaha! the girl screaming for 4 seconds at the beginning is the best part

  • he's good - but he aint dac

  • Thank you Jamey for PUNCHING Nashville in the fuckin mouth!!! HIT'em again!!!!

  • @cjgarrand78 fuck yeah real country

  • "I smiled when that speaker started blastin' out some fuckin' country gold!"

  • doesnt do this song the justice it deserves

  • I absolutely love Jamey Johnson. If there was one artist that one had to pick to listen to for the rest of their days it would be Jamey Johnson for me!!! He is so talented and I am so happy that I stumbled across his work while I was supporting the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia.

  • whats even better is he was a marine....OORAH!!!

  • This out-coed Coe...

  • i wish he put this on a cd

  • RODNEY WHERE'D YOU GO RODNEY

  • If you like Jamey Johnson....Send a thank you note to DAC!!!!!

  • thank you it rules

  • I just recently discovered this guy. I have not been very impressed with the watered down, commercialized crap that's been coming out of Nashville the last 20 plus years, and when I heard "In Color" for the first time, I fell in love with country music all over again. This man is everything that I remember country music to be when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. It's a damn shame there's not more like him out there!!!

  • me personally i thank that jamey is the new age david alan coe and he is bringin back the older country insted of the pop that all these panzie ass punks are brangin to tha table and there really aint to many people that can pull this song off other than mr coe himself GOD BLESS JAMEY JOHNSON, DAVID ALAN COE AND TEXAS COUNTRY MUSIC

  • hard and fresh country

  • looks like rob zombie and sounds like daivd allan coe fuckin awesome son

  • I love his music, he reminds me alot of david allen coe

  • Jamey I hope you know that you are changing music in a good way. It has been a long time coming. To much POP in country music. thank you for singing about the way I live my life.

  • p.s. I never said Jamey Johnson sucks, he is actually quite good, I just do not believe he is the end all be all of real country, and there are other people out there that have been playing real country for years that people like you don't know about because you do not know about anything that is not played on the radio.

  • I am feeling tough, I am in New Mexico so it will take me a while to get to Louisiana but I should be there in a few days so get ready !!!

  • Wish he would've took his guitar off and punched the idiot that thought that was Hendrix.

  • @jbird0524 maybe just a compliment to Jamey's guitar palyer? - homage to a earlier left-hand guitar god

  • @Pointbock1 ....u rite he was burning that bitch up!!!

  • @Pointbock1 Could be, didn't think of that

  • Writing songs for other people is not a problem, writing songs for Music Row is, that is the point, And if you are comparing this guy to Johnny Cash you are the asshole not me, You have no fucking clue what real country is if you think Trace Adkins has any merit whatsoever, Jamey Johnson is what Nashville is feeding you idiots, they dont want people to listen to Hank III and Wayne Hancock because they openly say how Nashville sucks

  • @severevoid Whoa! The authority on country music has arrived! Not that this argument is even worth the time, but I will entertain you once more. First off, stop being a keyboard warrior. Nothing tough about typing. I'm from Louisiana. West Monroe to be exact if you would like to get tough. Now that we are past that, Seeing as how Jamey Johnson had to release his own album in 2002 "They call me Country" because Nashville wanted nothing to do with him.

  • @severevoid Then when he was dropped from BNA in '06 he refused to write another album with ANY outside input. He subsequently went on to write "The Lonesome Song" and self release it on the internet. Only then did Mercury pick it up. He had two other inquiries prior to Mercury, but they wanted to "adjust" some things. He refused. Mercury said they liked it "as is" so he went with them. Of course I am not saying that he is Johnny Cash, I was merely referencing how long songwriting has gone

  • @severevoid on in country music. Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe if everyone else is actually informed about what they are speaking on and they differ from your opinion that it may just be you that is the idiot? Hank III is okay, but he's not Jamey. Just like Hank wasn't Waylon. One doesn't have to suck for the other to be good.

  • Jamey Johnson is new outlaw music,.You can put him in the same category as Waylon Jennings,Willie Nelson,Hank William's Jr, And David Allen Coe,and If That Ain't Country I'll Kiss Your A**

  • Jamey Johnson is pure old school country. You will never hear many of his songs on the radio. All the songs he wrote for people were just to get his foot in the door. He has paid his dues and he will be doing things his way from now on. As you can tell from his new album. He ain't scacrificing anything, this is pure country, real country through and through. This is what its all about. Screw all the crap on the radio, I'm sick of popcountry. He takes me back to when we were still unknown.

  • son, THIS is country musack!!! fuck everything that comes out of 95.5, 97.9, 103.3 and everything else out of "Nashville"... I am born and raised Nashville Tn and was raised on Waylon, Willie, Merle and the possum. this is the savior of REAL country music, the way it ought to be. SEMPER FIDELS to you my Marine Corps brother! i will see you with Kid Rock on the 18th My friend and we will do many jager shots son!!!!

  • there exists a problem in music today and the cause is Music Row and you are either a part of the cause or the solution. Guys who are very talented like Jamey Johnson writing songs for Nashville douche bags like Trace Adkins are contributing to the decline of the great form of art that is country music. Nashville is turning country into pure shit. Someone like Hank Williams III who is country music's genuine savior doesn't waste his talent writing songs for Music Row, he tells them to fuck off!!

  • @severevoid Funny, this is exactly the same thing people said about Hank Jr. when he first started. Listen to the story behind Honky Tonk Badonkadonk as Jamey tells it. That song with him singing it is as country as they come. Just cause Trace popped it up doesn't mean that Jamey Johnson is any less for it.

  • @severevoid Also ALL of the old Country singers wrote songs for other people (Ever here of Chris Kristoferson?) Jamey Johnson still plays the small bars and songwriters' conventions because he believes in them even though (unlike Hank III) he can sell out stadiums. Give me a break. The problem with country music exists with people like you who don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. I guess Johnny Cash was a "Douche Bag" for writing and singing other people's songs too.

  • if jamey johnson got any better God would want a personal performance.

  • this is a David Allen Coe song he is country, Jamey Johnson has some good stuff but lets not forget he wrote honkeytonk badonkadonk, I can't respect a guy as real country that is responsible for that piece of crap, songs like that are what is wrong with country today. You want real country try Hank III, Wayne Hancock, Justin Townes Earle etc

  • @severevoid the reason jamey johnson sold honky tonk badonkadonk is because he didnt want to be known as that guy....jamey johnson is saving country music....the problem with you narrow minded idiots is just what you said...you cant respect a guy who is (responsible) for a song like that...that song is awesome...its not traditional and instead of wasting your time complaining about someone elses music....pick up a guitar and write your own...and if you cant then keep your thoughts to your self

  • @trampis67 FUCK YA BRO

  • i don't care how far jamey goes or don't go in the music industry, as long as he's singing, i'll be listening.

  • jamey johnson.. justin moore, billy currington, brad paisley's older music and the ocassional carrie underwood. country

    flatts, taylor swift..aldean..nah

  • @logandgrant2007 No brother, the only country one you mentioned was jamey, the others are yankee douche bags. get it right.

  • I agree this is the perfect country sound.

    Margaret ( Scotland)

  • This is what country music is meant to be....raw and REAL! No pretty boys up on stage attempting to bond with us country folks! Jamey doesn't need all the glitz and glam.....he's truly country!!!

  • Jamey Johnson is gonna be the next David Allan Coe. But I'm pretty sure Jamey won't be singing them song about sex like David Allan Coe. Jamey will be around for a long time

  • had to get some salt. on a str8 tequila nite. dont ask her. she dont know nothin? just like that dip chip blake shelton

  • You know, it's funny, they call this neo-traditionalist country, but we country people call it country. Guess ya gotta be country to recognize country after all.

  • THIS IS REAL COUNTRY MUSIC NOT THE RASCAL FAGS AND THAT BITCH TAYLOR SWIFT. THANKS JAMEY FOR SAVING COUNTRY MUSIC

  • His on-stage actions remind me so much of Jim Morrison. Great musician, I see HUGE things coming from him.

  • If there is a country singer carrying on the tradition of the old timers it is Jamey Johnson plain and simple.

  • THE GHOST OF COUNTRY MUSIC-DWAYNE838.....LISTEN....I AM HERE.....

  • Everyonetime I hear this song I get chills. No matter what anyone thinks or believes, that is what country music is all about. Painting a picture and making you feel what they are singing about. Anyone could cover this song up on stage. But today, besides Coe, Jamey Johnson is the only other guy that can do that successfully. This is real country music right here. May Outlaw Country (aka Real Country Music) Live On!

  • Real Country music at its finest!!!!!!

  • no one wants to accept ( this is were country music is now) the teeny bop/pop shit ant real no one likes it unless your under 20-25 years old...damn what have we let nashville do to us... i say f**k em ..and keep on jamey..you are the reason i hate country radio because they refuse to play your music in b,ham al ..only (in color ) and it pisses me off ..keep it up....i dont need a radio on my new harley anyways...ride easy..............

  • @harleydyna03

there is something out there for everyone. its honestly stupid to say if your in a age group you dont like this or you like this. next time keep your comments to yourself. I seen Jamey johnson play a private show a little of 2 weeks ago and im only 23.

  • The reason we do not allow real country singers to become big is because today's society is based around the pop sound, instead of the real country boy sound. It's ridiculous what 'country' music has surmounted to today. I am a country girl, I was raised on real country music. I've lived on a farm since the day I was born and I was taught a hard's days work ain't never done.

  • This man puts on a show! When I saw Jamey with Randy Houser they totally reminded me why I still give Country music a chance, and because I am from Arkansas, they also had a fellow Arkansan, Justin Moore join them to play one of his songs, and then after Jamey's set, they played for another three hours.. You can tell Jamey plays for his joy of music, not for money, like most newer Country musicians do..

  • @9875a I'm also from Arkansas, but after hearing Justin Moore, I can safely say Justin Moore isn't true country. He does the same boring stuff of trying to mix Black Label Society with a damn fiddle and steel guitar and call it country. His songwriting is the boring standard of modern Nashville. There's more to Jamey Johnson than his radio hits. At least Jamey Johnson has respect for the originals. It's a shame that very few do. Hank III, Unknown Hinson, Jamey Johnson, Ryan Harmon. That's it.

  • can't beat outlaw country...it's the best.

  • i saw him live last year he is so much better live than recorded!

  • Hell Yes!! Between Jamey Johnson and Eric Church they have brought back the 2000's outlaw country and kick ass every show!!! Check out my chanel for plenty of upclose live music from Eric and Jamey as well. I also have live video of Chuck Berry from just last year and plenty more adding every day Thanks all

  • thank god there still are COUNTRY singers left

  • Coe didnt write this one and does it burn anyone elses ass up like it does mine that NO one can spell his name right?!? ever?!?! its David ALLAN Coe!!!!!!!

  • OMG. If you don't think this is good, you should probably stop listening to music.

  • the ride was not written by DAC!

  • This is the stuff I want to hear on the RADIO!!!

  • @lwc003 Sadly you won't. All you get is the standard Nashville Trashville shit of Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Rascall Flats, Taylor Swift, and all that crap! Warrior Rock Radio is the only station I've heard that plays real music. Country, Rock, and everything in between. Google Warrior Rock Radio. Should bring it up.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs, awesome cover by Jamey, i am in love with his voice

  • Jamey Johnson singing a cover song like The Ride is great.

  • This is the real stuff, not like the shit on the radio now

  • i smiled when that speaker startin blastin out that fuckin country gold...now theres a god damn country line for your ass...rascal flatts can blow me

  • Best country artist out there! Thanks for sharing this one!!

  • @tyman27 David Allan Coe, George Jones, Hank Jr., Hank 3, Willie Nelson, Unknown Hinson, Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, The Oak Ridge Boys, etc. They're all still kickin. They're the best out there!

  • He was dressed like 1950, half drunk and hollow eyed-my goose bumps have goose bumps! Wow!

  • @robindev123 I have to agree!

  • trampis67 you got er right bro!

  • Hot damn there IS real country left in the world! Thank the Lord there is someone who is keeping country roots alive.

  • @hardtaill70 WE DO STILL HAVE hANK jR. AND THE kING OF cOUNTRY... mR. gEORGE sTARIT. jAMEY jOHNSON IS THE NEW pRINCE.

  • @hardtaill70 DONT FORGET STRAIT...

  • Jamey Johnson needs to go to Nashville and give out COUNTRY LESSONS. Maybe he could teach all these pussies like Aldean Chesney and Rascal Flatts what it means to play some REAL COUNTRY MUSIC. LONG LIVE OUTLAW COUNTRY. Waylon and Hank Sr would be proud

  • @ZEPPELINWEED4EVER WE DO STILL HAVE THE KING MR. GEORGE STRAIT.... JAMEY JOHNSON IS THE NEW PRINCE.

  • This song rocks. Keep up the good work

  • If anyone associated with Jamey Johnson ever reads these comments tell him to perform The Ride in Kansas City May 8. Long time DAC fan and would be happier than an 18 year old in a titty club if he performed this song. Jamey Johnson all the way!

  • everytime I see Jamey in concert I am mesmerized and feel absolutely priveledged to be in attendence.... this is real, raw, country music. They can keep the watered down mess for somebody else, I got no use for it. Looking forward to the next show

  • Damn, I knew there had to be a connection between this guy and David Alan Coe. If this ain't country, you can kiss my ass.

  • Is that Mick Foley on the lefty Tele?!?

  • Coe is proud of him

  • Real Country

  • is this song based on a true story?

  • haha certainly hope not a "true" story.. as this song is about a ride to Nashville with the long departed ghost of Hank Williams.

  • @Brills87chevy from what i hear it is either waay it is a great ong even though david alllen coe does it better an d the story is when he did it at the oprey the lights went out when he said about it s a big a hard ride and can you bend them guitar strings and its a long hard ride

  • Comment removed

  • ahhh sing it haas

  • This guy is amazing. He is everything Nashville NEEDS to get back to.

  • this guy has that sound you just dont hear no more REAL COUNTRY

  • amazing...jameys old school and bad ass

  • "The Ride" is a song written by Gary Gentry and J.B. Detterline Jr., performed by country singer-songwriter David Allan Coe and released in 1983. The ballad tells the story of an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams, Sr.

  • ty for the history

  • "The Ride" is a song written by Gary Gentry and J.B. Detterline Jr., performed by country singer-songwriter David Allan Coe and released in 1983. The ballad tells the story of an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams, Sr.

  • DAC wrote alot of great tunes.... but not this one.

  • FUCK YOU!!!

  • Comment removed

  • HA HA!!! Touch a nerve did I? Hmm Yup Yup? Keep telling urself im a wanna be...now run along in ur hybrid car u are late to that sale at bed bath and beyond...

  • Jamey Johnson's voice is pure gold just like David Alan Coe's lyrics. What a great combination!!

  • WOW COUNTRY FUCKIN GOLD IS RIGHT!!

  • Who is that "Cowboy" playing the steel ??

  • I have very rarely seen a such a great country artist like Jamey Johnson do old covers like this and literally make them sound 20 times better than the original! I can't wait to see what music he puts out in the future on top of what he already has. He's the new face & legend in country music today, hands down.

  • @prosperwize i agree with you 100% we are watching a legend in the making i know hes gonna be one of the greats

  • @prosperwize BETTER than the original?! Have you ever heard David Allan Coe's version?

  • Jamey is as real as it gets. Thank God for him!

  • audience shut up please? i know if i were in the auduence i would be having a damn good rowdy time

  • great quality thanks ,

    audience shut up please

  • Outlaw 101!! Real Country is back!! Rock us forward JJ!!!

  • real country right here, sing it jamey. this was written by gary gentry

  • David Allan Coe wrote it.

  • DAC sang it but gary gentry wrote the song

  • The next WAYLON JENNINGS! AWESOME!

  • dont say that, jamey is a badass, but ur comparing a ford focus to a gt40, waylon is the tip of the sword, jamey is tryin to restore country music, just give him the title that fits,

  • Freaking real deal right there

  • new era of outlaw country!!

  • you are the next david allen coe awesome brenda atkins

  • This song was written by Gary Gentry not David Allen Coe.

  • Taylor Swift should burst into flames in the prenence of Mr. Jamey Johnson

  • shes 100 percent pop along with pickler and underwood

  • where the hell has this guy been? this IS COUNTRY . jamey is country, pop country can eat a fat one .

  • wow he is the best see him live back on the 10 kick ass!!!!!!!

  • Damn good! Jamie's version is a keeper! He needs to record & release it to radio! You are mistaken about the songwriter credits. This song was written by: Gary Gentry.

  • Jennings, Jones, Coe, and a dash of Kristofferson, damn shame you won't hear him on the radio other than In Color, don't get me wrong it's a great song, but he should have at least 4 singles on that album.

  • well put murphy... if I ever see toby keith I will smack him cuz Kristofferson damn well should have

  • ya he's a bad ass writer

  • He showed up at The Limelight late one night durin' this years' 2009 CMA Music Festival. It was cool to see him up close.

  • Do Ya have your notepads out Nashville? Are Ya takin notes? THIS is COUNTRY MUSIC. Send Taylor, Chesney, and the Flatt boys back where they come from. This is what country radio needs !!!

  • taylor chesney and the flatt boys need to go over to pop cause that is what the sing about and sound like. have them leave country music alone and bring in more good ole boys like jamey

  • @trampis67 you said it brother.. fuck pop music with a country accent

  • THIS IS COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't agree more!

  • @trampis67 YOU GOD DAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

  • @trampis67 I'll offer big loud "amen" to that.

  • amazing

  • i hope he plays this tonight in rochester!!!!

  • I HOPE HE PLAYS THIS TOMORROW NIGHT

  • dude hes commin near my town in september i can only pray he breaks it out! hes the man!

  • A great cover & looks like he put on a hell of a show ! Thanks for posting this one

  • If that Ain't Country I'll Kiss Your ASS!!

  • OK RETARD (taccc1977) Just so you know, this ain't his first rodeo! He's been writing and singing for years. He's paid his dues and he's moaned the blues- so sit down and get you a big ol' glass of STFU. Thank you, and have a great day!

  • Comment removed

  • read what he said again, real slow this time maybe, lmao.

  • it is amazing that he got a recording contract in this day and time when real musicians are not given chances

  • are you kidding me?!!?!?!@?! I bet you're a Rascal Flatts fan.

  • evidently you can't read either. Let me say it again. JJ is a legendary musician and it is a wonder that he got a contract since he does not cater to mainstream music big wigs. He does his own thing and sings his own songs. Get your stuff straight .....

  • Hmmm... seems like a few people took it the way I did. I can read just fine. Seems like you need to hone your writing skills, LOL.

Hey, it's all good. Peace, love, and outlaw country music!

  • best country song ever I say

  • a great talent but no DAC

  • aint nobody gonna be david allan coe

  • amazing

  • one of the best singer//songwriters ever born!

  • I just cant tell you how great it is that we got a real country artist to number one again boys. This pop country shit is a joke. Lets make sure we let the world know it by keeping this man at the top of the page!!!

  • I'll agree DAC did noy write the song, but he sure made it. No one could have recorded The Ride and made it their song like David did. JJ seems cool and I'd love to see him. Enjoyed the video.

  • DAC is one of my favorite REAL counrty singers of all time but when my cousin opened for Trace Adkins a couple years ago he sang The Ride. I can't hardly even listen to anyone else singing it, even David Alan Coe. It was absolutely amazing. He spent 6 years in Nashville, cut a few albums, and got kicked to the curb. We wrote a few songs that were sold but besides that, its a shame he got out of it. Him and Jamey Johnson are a lot alike. Country music needs more like them.

  • i saw him live he was great i am going again. i agree with timothyla i cant stand RF crap they sing

  • Gary Gentry and J.B. Detterline are the writers...Coe's Castles in the Sand/Once Upon a Rhyme album 1983

  • David did not write the ride.
