To me, Forza is more about the love of cars.

GT5 is more about the love of motorsport.

GT5 has more racing enjoyment - proper pit stops (with pit crew), weather, rallying, good endurance races, better tyre physics etc.

Forza does the cars better (no standard cars), fantastic car design system, equilvilant tuning the GT5 and I think the cars look prettier.

However, Forza needs to up on the motorsport side. Get in some open wheel cars and weather.

GT5 needs all premium models and more design.
