  • @dknelson,

Agree with your first sentence. Your second sentence however is incorrect.

  • Defazio 2012!!!!

  • This guy is great!! I'm not thinking about the Dem's or the Repulican's, we have to listen to people like this and support them because they/he is fighting for us!! I've been a Libertarian all my voting life but I've just signed on with the Republican's so I can vote for Ron Paul in the Primary election and that will be a very critical election. So I'm not worried anymore about 'their labels' it's about who's out there fighting to save America because we are in deep shit !!

  • I like this guy; however; any Wise Democrat, would be a republican on principal.

  • I've been saying for a long time now we need to have a computer programed with the Constitution as its heart rule over the entire nation! Get the human element out of the picture as humans are greedy, treacherous and dishonest!!

Use The Computer to weigh-in meticulously on all facets of government across the nation as well as dealing with each and every court case. No more special interests! No more lobbyists! No more voting fraud! No more waste! No more endless campaigning! NO MORE SCUMBAGS!!!

  • at the end there the answer to those questions is MARY J BBY!!!!!

  • I shagged golf balls for rich people. I carried golf clubs for rich people, and I learned very early on, when I was pretty young, that this was a group of people that had nothing special to offer to me or to society. -DeFazio

  • DeFlakio

    Just another bum IMO

  • Yeah Pete!

Oregon's got good reason to be proud of its congressional contingent. Thank god we lost the execrable Gordon Smith.

  • respect to this man

  • i hope this guy is still alive...

  • Why isn't he president?

  • He is'nt president because obama is cooler.

  • we're so screwed.

  • let the prices come down!!!

  • $1.5T is about $15000 per tax payer that actually pays tax in the US. We are about 100M tax payers. So republican's please explain to me how we are gonna keep cutting taxes while spending this much??

McCain makes no sense - just wants to buy you. Obama speaks reason. I personally is willing to pay 3% more if I see fiscal responsibility and sound investments by the government.

  • Another bill just passed $600B in defense spending!! How do you respond to this? The people of the USA should be outraged! 1.46 Trillion spent by Bush last week...and Congress rubber stamped it, while people lose their homes, their families, and their fundamental rights guaranteed by a constitution that has been destroyed by these same Bast#&*&$. How many more innocent people will 612 Billion kill? What are you going to do about this!!!

  • These are criminals, Thanks for posting. And think that Bush stood up with a straight face and asked to pass this quickly - is nothing but high treason against the American people.

It's amazing how this country is coming apart.

  • Paulson lobbied for exemptions from the SEC leverage limits for Goldman and four other major investment banks in 2004 (as CEO of Goldman). This was one of the drivers of the current destruction - forty to one leverage on the housing boom, with the risk "covered" by "collateralized debt obligations" sold to unwitting "investors" the world over. It required the blind eye of the debt rating agencies to succeed.

  • Watch this video called:

The federal reserve caused the 700 billion dollar bailout and economic crash

Help your Country - Please SPREAD THIS VIDEO AROUND

GET A LIST OF THOSE WHO VOTED FOR THE BAILOUT AND VOTE THEM OUT!

  • Have a look at the facist symbols in the background at 6sec either side of the American flag

  • @preyator the fasces isn´t a fascist symbol. it´s also in the national emblem of france

  • all the "middle class" that has recently went on a frenzy investing in stocks, lose money. Wall Street keeps there companies, and their money. Tax payers pay, prices and taxes skyrocket, we pay again. Government gets money. we re-morgage what we cant aford, pay again,,, and again, and again,,,

    IT'S A FAILING SYSTEM!!!!

    BAIL OUT ALLTOGETHER !!!!!

  • guess noone listened to him then.

  • Too bad it is not "you the people" who run anything in your illusional democracy. This bailout was going to be voted in at any cost. There woould be negotiations until it would be voted in, or was there a voting limit ? Nope. Hokus pokus, create money, create debt, create inflation. Why ? To save giant firms and their monopoly, after they have squeezed out record dividends for several years. It is not even marxism, just pure stupidity.

  • I love this guy. He should be president! Yes, I agree, mark it down, cap interest rates. Put a moratorium on penalties, and foreclosures for people losing their homes until we fix this mess. No BAILOUT to Greedy Banking Institutions who took advantage of the poor and uneducated.

  • so they rushed it through with scare tactics on the corporate 'news' which screamed about how a trillion was lost on the markets for the sake of 700 billion etc etc. Scare tactics yet again. But the fact is, if the stock is JUNK based on bad debt created to mask a greater problem, then the market needs to rid itself of the junk stock so that they can get about the 'business' of creating a 'sustainable' free market society.

The problem with out of control consumerism is that it isn't sustainable

  • everything is fucked up! we are all stuffed.. NWO.. CASHLESS SOCIETY... DEPOPULATION...they are laughing at us..

  • Fantastic speech. Thanks for posting this! So true! Exactly right!

  • The people hold ALL the power. The Government only has the power that they trick us into believing we owe them. The power in the pyramid is at the base of the pyramid, not at the top, the top needs the bottom to be where it is! The bottom is the strongest most foundational part. America is it's people, the government is of it's people, and I don't mean that figuratively, I mean literally it is the product of the people, and they can change it, and they will. Wake up America!

  • He tried to tell them how it was today but NOOOOO one listens !!!!! Cheers Man .. it IS BS and it stinks!! At least someone knows how to use common sense !!

  • Bravo. Hope the House actually listens.

  • yah man! the sad part is theres nothing we can do or I should say will do the future doesnt look so good and its not an accident.

check out ( SECRET NASA ALIEN UFO NEW WORLD ORDER )

  • Good man.

  • amen!

  • Bravo! well said!

What a refresher to see a man with true grit and integrity...keep saying it for us!

  • Koodos!!!! 3 thumbs up man!!!! Bravo!!!!

  • boo yah!!!

well said. this bailout is bullshit.

  • yes, cure the cause and just not the symptoms.

but it better be done quick, or it will be 1929 again.

  • this man is sincere and he hits it on the nail. charge on! forget the bailout and let the chips fall.

  • peter defazio is one of my heroes; he's never been afraid to speak up! i'm proud to be an oregon democrat. lately though, i've actually been ashamed to be an american. corporatism is raping us, folks!

  • Wow. I like this man. Stand up for us bro!

  • good man. international applause!

  • It's about time someone speaks with some sense in that building.

  • wow i've rated this and it still stayed still man i hate censoring

  • This congressman is ready for Americans to hear the TRUTH about their government cheating them.

  • Is the view counter on this going to be "stuck" at 33,029 for the next week-even with 100,000 hits? lIke Rep whats her name was?

Youtube is trying to contrrol the news you see

    censorship

  • Bravo! Where's the standing ovation, besides me? Awesome.

  • See My video, "Why $700 billion, cut to 666 Billion."

  • Defazio- I LOVE YOU!!!

  • nah, it took the dems 10 years since the signing of the Gramm-Bliley-leach Act, the CRA and the overinflation while we have a trade deficit for the dems to get around with this. They were busy with environmental laws, nanny laws, war... not checks and balances. Don't rush the Dems! They had 10 years to get around to this. Folks, government is all about checks and balances. Where was Pelosi and others? They were in bed with Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae. Don't rush them.

  • Right on!

Why couldn't we have this guy run for president?

Apparently the cream doesn't always make it to the top in this meritocracy.

More proof that this system of government is not as good as it's advertised.

  • Your "representatives" will roll over, and guess what?

    You'll re-elect them again.

    Because you're stupid stupid Americans.

  • I can tell you that we're not stupid. Instead we're a dumbed down MTV nation created by the government to distract us and dumb us down so that they can have their way with us and trick us. The last 19 year old assistant I had, had a brain the size of a peanut, she didn't know how find 15% of 195 until I had to show her 3x how to do it. In other words, our government is the one to blame, not its people. I don't blame you for saying that either. Instead, I blame your education system.

  • > I can tell you that we're not stupid. Instead

    > we're a dumbed down MTV nation created by the

    > government to distract us and dumb us down so

    > that they can have their way with us and trick

    > us.

MTV isn't created by the government.

Television is a drug, and with this drug, you are completely controlled. It dictates who to vote for, what to buy, how to act.

And you can't give it up either.

The millenials might. Some in X and Y did.

  • awesome speech!

  • Never thought I'd agree with a Dem, but I like what this guy has to say!

  • We are a diverse group!

  • @dknelson He's a Dem, but definitely marches to the beat of his own drummer. A lot of people in his own party don't like him and want him to shut up.

  • I htink the government should take all this money and divide it amond all the 200 miliong tax payers and we would all get like a 450,000 check after taxes it could be less like maybe 300,000 everyone could pay off there debt and be back at square one... Why should we reward people who are failed...

  • Rep Defazio is right on the mark. Wake up blue collar America, we're getting reamed once again by Congress and the elitists on Wall Street. We earn it they spend it and more. The US dollar can and will go in the toilet unless we act now to call, fax and email your local Representatives to say no to this economic fiasco. Let the irresponsible, greedy executives learn a lesson and have to live like average Joe. Take action now.

  • Defazio is da man. I vote for him for President. Paulson got too much conflict of interest.

  • Defazio strongly supports the war against Iraq, which is part of the financial troubles.

This guy is simply trying to buy himself a new virginity by giving a speech in front of an empty house.

He is doing that for the show and gullibles are eating up the hook.

That is the way it is.

  • Robbing Peter to pay Paul....son.

  • Fuckin idiot. Id like to see congress not pass this bill. Morons

  • wat a bad ass!!!

  • Keep up the good fight Rep. Defazio!

  • Absolutely true.

  • This guy's the man!

  • Paulson was with Goldman Sachs before licking the rectum of the Bush administration. I guess socialism was inevitable in the U.S., but I never expected its debut to be ushered in by the banking industry. By god - we don't need socialized medicine - No - Maybe we could put Cheney in charge of the medical system now. Hypocrisy central.

  • Never expected it? It happens all the time. S&L scandal, etc. Bankers and other true capitalists have no ideology, they are simply oligarchs. Capitalism has no ideology outside of economists and wankers who live in mom's basement.

  • YOU DAMN RIGHT!!!

  • I don't think we should be bailing out Wall Street or anybody else. What a joke. I had my own small business for 30 years and no one would have bailed my out had I made the mistakes these investment bankers have. Why should the American taxpayer be bailing out these people that knew the bubble would eventually burst!

  • "We should not be rolled."

I love it! He's a Rick Astley fan!

  • Not enough swearing for my taste, but spot on.

  • He said "heinie holes" at 4:11 hehehe.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • By making it known on the afternoon of Sept. 18 that he had a bailout proposal, at precisely the moment when the financial system seemed to be tipping over the edge, Paulson bought the markets the most valuable commodity of all -- time.

Years from now, when we look back on the past week's events, we may conclude this was his real goal all along

    Suckers get punked

  • Who hired him and why is the senate even taking this proposal serious????

  • manon99zippy "Who hired him and why is the senate even taking this proposal serious????"

LOL... don't you see the KEY? :) It's not like "Someone in Government hired him" It's more like He fired "Government" :))))

  • Fuck yeah.. this makes me want to watch C-Span more often

  • Holy shit he rocked. And right on the money at 5 minutes too.

  • "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency."

LOL! I never see this kind of stuff even in USSR from 1917 to 1991 :) at first - seduce peoples by "Cheap lonas", than gamble with mortgages, grab the money, and ask all americans to pay for it. It's like to be raped and pay for rape investigation, according hypocritical Sarah Palin

    you are RAPED!

  • DeFaziowned.

  • Go DeFazio! Woo! Thank you!

  • Bush is Communism.

  • GUESS WHAT...if Republicans were in control of congress RIGHT NOW, this deal woulda already been done.

    We'D BE SO RIDICULOUSLY FUCKED.

  • And don't forget the most important words in the Bill:

"Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency"

This is against EVERYTHING basic principle the U.S. was founded.

Paulson and his buddies SHOULD BE TRIED FOR SEDITION!

  • stick it to 'em!

  • We should be rushing to get the "treason trials" going. The corrupt scoundrels need their day in court.

  • I hear that shit. They need their day with the hangman's noose also.

  • Hell yes. At least someone is saying it.

  • Rock on.

I hope they realize that we are THIS CLOSE to revolution. Enough is enough.

  • Corrupt Wall Street and these insiders got us into this mess and are now seeking an easy fix that will only bail them out personally and their income. That is bullshit.

If you ask me, these folks should be tried for their scandels and the turmoil they have caused this country. Martha Stewart went to jail for very minimal corruption compared to these assholes. And now we have these shmucks doing 100 times that and trying to get bailed out?!!!!! What a joke this US economy has become.

  • DEAD ON.

  • You are absolutly right,Mr.Defazio!

  • This guy gets it. Bernanke and Paulson have proven to be inept.

There are better solutions out there. Sweden had very close to the same problem in 1992, but they came through.

Taxpayers should get equity stakes like Defazio says, or even better, an instrument that is senior even to the bondholders.

  • Rushing things is the way to go, just look at these great examples:

    - Installing an accusation system to kill of the bourgeoisie after French revolution

    - Europe giving Palestinians country away to the Jews out of guilt for the holocaust

    - Invading Iraq out of frustration for a non-related terrorist attack on US soil

Acting fast and though is great stuff in Hollywood movies but in the real world the results can be terrible for years to come...

  • Nice one!

Why does it always feel like speakers in the house of representatives are addressing an empty chamber?

Either the chamber is empty, or the camera work is shitty and American politicians are all asleep in their chairs.

  • i would like 700 billion dollars for my plans for world domination too

  • fantastic!!!!!!

  • Amen!

  • Rep. Defazio, here! here!

  • cool, but doesn't matter, the government is gonna fold eventually and do this bailout. All this in part of deregulation of the housing industry from the help of Bush & Co to fund the f*cking illegal war in Iraq (which is costing over 500 billion) in addition, this election will probably go to McCain/Palin. So Sad, America is killing itself in international affair & nation building, too distracted by video games, Paris Hilton & Britney Spears.

  • In much the same way that the Bush Administration, sensing that the Bush/Kerry election would be close, came up with WMDs and the need to go into Iraq...to frighten voters into voting for them. Now, the Republicans have come up with this MONSTER lie...and McCain is going to milk it for all its worth, trying to show that he is better qualified than Mr. Obama. When could be a better time for them to debate THIS VERY ISSUE in a public forum. What has changed in the last 48 hours, other than the polls?

  • Oregon! Fuck yeah!

  • all this shit is designed to be this way, they are crashing the economy on purpose in order to take control later with the false excuse, wanting to fix everything-bullshit!!! people wake up!!!these are all steps to take over entirely the country. they expect an uprising so they can crack down martial law on you, cant you see it?!!! wake the fuck up!!!!

  • Amen. $700 is almost the size of the Pentagon's budget.

  • It is the networth of paulson himself... Let him take a shot in the mouth for once.

  • Right on!

  • he z good

  • I just want to say thanks to Mr. DeFazio for mentioning what no one else has. the fact that this bill has NO oversight and literally has a line that says there can't even be judicial or congressional oversight! WTF! Literally if this passes we're simply giving away the money. Paulson is trying to sell us a bill of goods by making it seem so urgent and scarry. Not this time! Not like the PATRIOT act, Iraq war, WMD theory, Wiretapping, Overall gov't secrecy.... the list goes on and on.

  • A well reasoned and accurate response. This bailout is typical Bush BS...

  • Bravo, bravo, bravo. I feel like moving to this guy's district just for the privilege of voting for him next time around.

  • awesome speech!

  • Bernanke is scaring people by saying doing nothing will be worse than allowing the raping of the american tax payers, killing the dollar, letting criminals walk away with millions. This economy is going down regardless. $700B will be a reward to corruption.

  • loser. you can do dipshit about it. paulson always GETS WHAT HE WANTS. SUCK IT UP BOZOS

  • Sept. 24, 2008 @ 2:14pm - count 3765 please comment with count and time

  • And the Time Zone:

    2:14am on the East Coast

    11:14am on the West Coast

  • I praise the courage that Peter has for speaking the truth about this Bail-Out Bill (The federal government giving authority to the Treasury to BORROW money from the, non-government, Federal Reserve, to buy up BAD BETS on LOANS, that someone couldn't afford to pay off!) but I can't believe we are considering this in the first place! We don't have the money to spend and any money spent will only add to a bottomless pit of DEBT (Money that must be earned by working-class people)!

    NO BAIL-OUT!

  • Paulson is like that shady loan officer that hurries a family into sign those papers promising to get them out of a hole, while digging them deep into debt for the rest of their life.

    That family, is America.

  • That is pure gold sir! Now I know why Alex Jones interviewed him. A real patriot. This is one of the good guys the very few good guys in Congress.

  • If Wall Street mishandles funds and runs out, what are we to expect them to do with this next $700 billion? More of the same. Don't rush! This is one bill they need to READ. What's 3 pages?

  • We must stop this MADDNESS!

Fortunately my Republican Representative STRONGLY OPPOSES this nonsense!

    Don't Rush! DON'T RUSH!

    We're talking about $700 Billion!

When I'm spending big money on something -- I GIVE IT CAREFUL CONSIDERATION!

  • bla bla bla. you cannot do anything about it. paulson will get your money. whether you like it or not.

    that's life for you sucker.

  • Yup, view count is frozen at 3765 and has been for at least the last hour.

  • If this goes through, it's a COUP

A complete sacking of the American people by corporate interests

  • if you are a republican watching this and agreeing with the rhetoric, now you see what everyone else has been fighting against in the last 8 years.

It's not just liberals that are fighting this, independants as well. Wall Street and the big corps have been looting our treasury for 8 years and they want to go out with a bang with this $700 billion bailout. Hell No!!!!

  • One idea which no one seeems to have considered is to trick them by giving them 700 billion, but in Zimbabwean dollars. They won't be expecting that.

  • count is frozen there for me too.. perhaps a conspiracy so that it doesnt get to the top-rated and hit the front page? very interesting....

  • Interesting, the count is frozen for us too... I've read that YouTube has been censoring video's but if this is true, god help us...

  • youtube frequently takes hours to update their numbers, particularly if the video is highly viewed.

  • rabble rabble

  • I oppose this bailout with Defazio -- great speech.

It would be far better for the country (and world) to weather this storm and find a credit system that works than to bailout these corporate flunkies.

  • clap clap clap

  • hell yes

  • There should be riots all over the USA right now. It's wierd how all this is going down while they sit in their houses built of paper cards as if nothing is happening

  • And I'm sure you're on the streets with your pitchfork already?

  • Your future has been stolen right in front of your eyes and you are trying to be a smart ass?. These thieves are running to other countries with your money and future. Grats moron.

  • DeFazio is exactly right. I want to send a transcript of this to my representative, in case he was sleeping through this.

  • This video, or more specifically the view count which stands at 3,765, is an indicator that despite the end of the financial world being at hand America is still asleep.

  • I'm sure that view count has been frozen. Because when I started viewing this 25 minutes or so after your comment, it was at the same number...hrm...

  • Sounds pretty much like a dictatorship proposal to me. This is such a joke!

  • Aye, what an idiot, so melodramatic. I really hate politicians. While I Agree with what he says, Dictator Bush and his regime has already made up their minds and nothing will change it.

  • defazio FTW!!!!

  • Excellent work! Thank you Mr. DeFazio! I'm not in your district, but if I were, you'd have my vote.

  • It's a good thing we have this DeFazio!! These guys are trying to pull a fast one on the American people AGAIN!!! Not this time!!!

  • Rep. DeFazio is calling it straight. Good to know he's in the House.

  • That was a great speech. All he was asking for was for this to be an informed intelligent decision.

If Obama made that speech on national tv he would get 90% of the votes on election day.

  • Well, he gets up a good head of steam there, but he doesn't even consider NOT bailing them out. Sorry, but the federal government should not be in the business of propping up businesses that make bad decisions.

    -jcr

  • You're exactly right, I wish someone would tell that moron Bush this. He's DEAD SET on bailing those morons out.

  • Exactly. I want DeFazio (my congressman) to take a stand AGAINST doing this. DeFazio was AGAINST impeaching Bush & Cheney, and it is Bush & Cheney who are behind this bailout, so, I guess, thanks for doing your part to keep these guys in office, Pete.

  • The argument seems to be that it is a life or death situation, so they pretty much have to, in order to avoid a severe collapse.

    Anybody has details on this?

  • big oil, financial services ... we never had a chance at the american dream ... it's locked down by the wealthy who control it in their name

  • it looks like the "American Dream" was the scam, you guys never had a chance :-(

  • The comparison to the rush into Iraq is compelling. Could this legacy from the current administration persist into the next several decades despite a change in regime next year? Truly we need to recognize the significance of this for our children.

  • damn why aren't there more congressmen like this?

  • O R E G O N !

Hopefully we'll have Jeff Merkley in the Senate soon, too, and Gordon "Hired illegal immigrants and voted with Bush 90% of the time" Smith will be GONE DADDY GONE!

  • Spot on! We need a thoughtful plan. I'll be damned if I'm going to have my taxes used without any oversight by an imperial executive. Call your representatives and senators and tell them what you think!

  • Finally, the Democratic leadership and legislators are finding a voice to call "bulls***" on the Bush team's power grab. Huzzah for Representative DeFazio - you did your constituents and the people of the United States proud today, sir!

  • It is too late. Wall Street has taken over our government. We have a new economic dictatorship and we are now serfs. The shit just hit the fan.

  • These guys better be careful what they pass. Holy Sh*t the people are pissed out there. Have you read some of the blogs or cnn money. Wow, I'm worried about what the people are going to do if this passes.

  • I'm more worried that the people WON'T revolt. We need the rich and powerful class to understand that THIS IS AMERICA and they're only welcome to stay if they follow our mother effing Constitution. If not, they can go play in the sandbox of Saudi Arabia.

  • We have to wait and see what the final legislation says. Finally the Dems and Reps are both outraged over this. We'll see what they pass though. Right now Paulson wants a power grab to rip off the taxpayer. I can't wait until the Bush regime is gone. Did you watch Cspan today? The Banking committee? Go watch, good TV. Both parties are saying....WAIT JUST A MINUTE HERE DICTATOR PAULSON. :)

  • You rule, my friend. Keep up the good work. I'm going to go watch th' C-SPAN right now. :)
