Quake 3 Arena mp (for PC) much tougher than COD4 mp. I used to play heaps of Q3A but mostly COD4 mp now. You not going to get any easy kills in Q3A its all dead eye aiming at fast moving targets. COD4 mp is ruthless but at least the noob has nade spanning to offset lack of skill. Also there tends to be lots of players on a map a noob has many opportunities for "lucky kills". Quake 3 Arena gives u no such chances. I still rate that game as the one that determines the "fastest gun in the West".

Actually Quake was the first fully 3D FPS game ever. Even if there was any other those days, nobody remembers it now.

They say that Quake was supossed to be a multiplayer-only game like Q3 is, but SP mode was made after huge popularity of beta version. I can`t confirm that even though I was waining for q1 myself. Strange thing is that official demo had no MP mode at all.

Reason the use id software's stuff is because it's reliable and means the Call of Duty people (InfinityWard, Treyarch) have to do less work. Also, this game called Battlefield 3 is coming out with a scratch built engine known only as Frostbite 2, that engine is going to spread like a virus.

alright, it kinda is the screen refreshing but not really. Usually screens move at a real time of 30 frames, when you record something through the tv its like the the frame rate of the screen is trying to catch up with what is showing so it shows lines. Same reason black and white videos from way back in the day look like they skip around when the walk, if you watched it on the old tvs back in the day it wouldn't do it as bad.
