  • Frankly, they sound like the Beatles - I can hear John.

  • It's too bad that when most people think of the Bee Gees, they think of Disco. This song shows that they were so much more: They really were talented performers. When you compare this to other works that were released around the same time, like Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, this song holds its own, and is distinct from them. Very nice!

  • Word has it, Bowie heard used this tune as the template for "Space Oddity"

  • Interesting. Now that I listen to it again, I can see how that would be so--especially in the first minute or so of this song.

  • Better than the Beatles

  • Hey, I'm right here!

  • amazing

  • There was no mining disaster in Aberfan in 1966, it was a mud slide, that engulfed a school and many children lost their lives. So it had no influence on this particular song. They just had a very fertile imagination, thats what has made them into the finest band of all time.

  • So much imagination that they wrote it on the stairs during a power failure and they said "well this must be feel like being under ground in a mine or somethin"and this song was born. For instance the sound of the beginning of jive talking is because Barry got over a bridge to the studio every day and at a cetain point he heard that noise every day and started singing to it. ;-) you can find those story,s on the docu"this is where I came in" on tube to find ;-)

  • This is really a great song and the Bee Gees carry it off well

  • i have the deluxe edition of the first bee gees lp on cd, cool stuff!

  • Tks for posting this song, you rock dude XD

  • are they singing about a real mining disaster

  • yes apparently it was inspired by a mining disaster in wales, uk

  • bliss

  • okay i like the part when maurice like bumps into robin and laughs it off at 0:28

  • did you get a chance to see Maurice running his hands through his hair and brushing off the falling hair off at 1:59? You can see Barry laughing. Maurice was a card.

  • Awesome alright!

  • AWESOME

  • This is really a great song and the Bee Gees carry it off well, thank you for posting this video

  • has anyone ever noticed in any live video or recording of the bee gees, they never give much of the light to maurice

  • FANBLOODYTASTIC

  • One of the reasons I like the Bee Gees as much as I do is because they are genuine. Maurice couldn't control himself--he was funny! Barry had a hard time keeping from bursting into laughter.

  • Woweeeeeeeeeee!!!

    AWESOME!!!

    Thanks SLUMBERS2

    peace and love

  • The fact that they were compared to the Beatles from the start is a tremendous compliment to the talents of the Gibb Brothers.

  • This is a great song. Their voices are awesome.

  • When this first came out it was rumored to be the Beatles! Can you imagine that?

  • the Beatles aren't that great -_- and this song is much better than most beatles songs.

  • Yeah, but this all happened in 1967.Public opinion then would disagree with your low opinion of the Beatles. Now 40+ years later I still think they were pretty good1

  • no, bee gees were before the beatles, plus, te bee gees are brothers, the beatles are bugs. plus, their songs weren't very good.

  • The Bee Gees were before the Beatles in the sense that they were brothers and so they sang together from the time they were little.

FACT: The Beatles were already huge stars by the time the Bee gees made their 1st album.

FACT: The Bee Gees record company released the promo 45 to DJ's without a label to create a sense of mystery, and many of them played it thinking it thought was the new Beatles single.

  • Damn burned by real facts! I love when people come on here and state false statements, and someone like skully comes by and sets them straight with the real facts.

  • Excellent. It's almost as if Barry couldn't keep a straight face with Mo's antics. Thank you for posting this.

  • ty i needed this song and that loaded fast
