one thing i've always hated about german cars, they're ALWAYS soooo fucking stingy with their horsepower, it's a fucking 70k car for crying out loud. a cts-v of the same price comes with 560 hp standard. if porsche would one day stop being so stingy with their horsepower, make a boxster or cayman with 500 hp, i would sell my house just to get one of these.
Cloth door pulls and a flimsy manual top seem utterly ridiculous on a $72k car. Is the driver going to notice the difference in speed due to the missing door handles? It seems frivolous to me that they made the car this way.
This Car is nonsense - i mean who is concepting a car that can drive almost 280 - but you can´t drive it because of the top?!?!. And open you can´t drive anyway 280
this car suck´s sry. i am a porsche fan and no hater but this is absolutely the stupidest car that porsche ever ever has concepted!
They try to save weight with cloth door pulls but then build in adaptive HID headlamps? ROFL
This is all just a marketing exercise to make the Boxster look more serious.
The normal Boxster/Boxster S is probably a great car if you want a roadster that is also a comfortable everyday car, but this spyder is kind of pointless.
@Molo9000 My uncle races a GT3 with the Porsche Club of America, and the Boxter Spyder is becoming the track car of choice among new members. Most owners load their Spyder into a trailer and tow it to and from the race track. You are right though, they are useless for everyday use.
@TechThem22 Yes and no. The people who buy Boxster Spyders are also the people who buy GT3's and GT3 RS's. They are long time members of the Porsche Club and replace their car every year or so. Come summer time, many Spyder owners will have already traded them in for Cayman R's.
if i have 72K lying around somewhere i'll pay every single dime for it! i went to a porsche dealer and sat down in it amazing feeling and i wasnt even driving it! :) when you get a sportscar you want fun.. well this car surely delivers ! :D
@principeivan "i wasn't even driving it! ..well this car surely delivers!" Wow, so you never test drove it, but you're preaching about it, thanks a bunch for your useless opinion. I bet you truelly believe deep down inside that tif the car is bright red it goes faster too!!!
@mikalebg The nissan GTR??? I do not consider that even close to the ultimate performance. If you want the ultimate performance and don't mind getting your hands dirty, get a 2006 zo6 for ~30k, slap some twin turbos on that 7.0l v8, and have an awesome ride. I know you would have to probably rebuild the lower half of the engine but still comes out under 60k.
dude y the fuk would u buy a convertible that u hav to manualy keep changing? and those dumbass doors? Just to lose 130 pounds? thats retarded. if they realy wana improve performance then just fukin improve the engine!
@nwonknu8 Engines only let you go fast in a straight line. Light weight and low unsprung mass lets you go fast everywhere. That's why they trimmed the weight. "Light is might."
I think I just heard that this particular car does not have a/c, cool for track time but wow I would go through so many white shirts here in Clearwater Fl. I love how quick it is, and it still looks great too!
$72,000!! what!! thats stupid money...get a vette Z06, completley different class in performance terms or something. its true with porsche the more you pay, the less stuff you get. 911 GT3 - 911 GT3 RS for example
WOW, 70+ mph in the slalom? damn. i love the fact it doesnt have AC and comes base with a straight 6 speed. that is a lot of car for around $70k. i love it
@carsaregood911 Uhuh... Well not for somebody who values a car that is nimble, light and communicates driving dynamics through the steering wheel. The GTR feels like a large lump of dead wood in comparison. If youre looking for an exciting driving experience rather than a lap time, grab the porsche.
@nemesis3001 yeah thats what im saying. the GTR is fast, but that is really all it is. and with the boxter, at the end of the day, youre driving a porsche.. not a nissan.
The GT-R is the result of a perfect manager decision. Torque vectoring is all that makes it so fast around a track, but I don't think it will be able to hold its position in the future, because torque vectoring will become very common thanks to one Swedish company that will sell it to whole car industry.

I thought this would weight like ~2,600lbs. It's not THAT light for a tiny roadster if you ask me..

For a Porsche
Convertible
Over 300 HP
Under 3000lb sports car
With a hell of a heritage behind it
I'd say it's a bargain!

Car and Driver got 0-60 in 4.1
Auto Car got 0-60 in 4.0 ****with PDK****
Thats as fast if not faster than Ferrari's F430, Audi R8, and Porsche's own basic 911
