If you don’t have an iPhone 4S, but still want to pose spoken questions to your device and let her speak out the answer, give ‘Voice Ask’ a try. The knowledge base behind it is huge (better than Siri) and the voice recognition works better with all accents. Work is going on to add integrated functionality that Siri offers, but for now, it’s a great app that knows details on the strangest of subjects. Get it at voiceask.com.

What about the Voice Detection? Does the Iphone detect the voice or does it send the speech untouched to the linux proxy-server and this one detects the voice?
@sfactoruknhjs Most likely, I haven't tested it but if you put your proxy's address in your iPhone when you set it up, it should work how his did in the video.
@Plamoni i dont know if you get this question alot but, i have a 4S and a 4, so my question is how can i get siri to my iPhone 4? and i have a iPhone 4S too

@bluefrisky What? You're completely misundertanding what I said, sometimes, it comes a point when, you can seriously freaking do something by yourself. Cars, OK, distance can be pretty long in some cases ; IM, OK, it's useful to chat with people for free & not waste paper. But thermostat? INSIDE your house ?! Are you a fattie that can't get out of your chair to not want to stand up that much? That was my point, and people agree with me mostly, some cases are really ridiculous, like this.
@IShogiI what if you were at work and wanted to make sure it was warm/cold on a cold/warm day? instead of having to wait until it heats/cools off you could just check on it from your phone.
In the time i say the temp to an (i have no) iphone, i could walk to the thermostat and fix it by myself. Talking to devices, and do some coolstuff will take a long long time to integrate!
@mayorc haha, yeah that's true, but gett'n the phone out of my pocket, unlock it, speak, and execute, will take a lot more time than walking to and changing the thermostat in an average house ;)
This is so sick. I am going to have fun messing around with this stuff. Thanks for posting all of this info (i followed your link from the siriproxy page). Who cares about its immediate usage, but the educational value it holds.
Awesome hack, but what would be even more awesome is if you could port Siri to Android. As long as you use clean-room reverse engineering, there wouldn't be any copyright issues, as all that would be necessary would be to have it connect to the same server using the same protocol.
@abcborgess Unfortunantly, while Microsoft welcomed kinect and WP7 hackers, Apple will probably just ignore them and try to lock them out. Well at least Sony didn't invent siri, or the maker of this video would probably already have a lawsuit
Thank to you and your proxy tool, the "hacker/programmer" community is doing all kinds of great things with Siri now. From car starters, light controllers and home automation, playing back specific episodes on a media center, to pulling up status report on network traffic and auditing events. Who knows what people are going to do next.
Thanks for opening up your code on github for everyone to use and innovate!
This reminds me the time when a hacker opened up Kinect.
@AdzNaz Not fake. You can download his code and do it yourself. And what is with people and things being gay? It's always like "You're gay! Suck my dick!" I don't get it. Creating a proxy server to extend the application of Siri, not gay. Talking about gay things, gay.
@dekoomers he shows the new (target) temperature, look at left of visor. The big number at right show the actual temperature and it takes several seconds to update.
I got siri to remind me 'when I get to point x' remind me I parked my car at the oorner; and it worked; I got a beep alert; but what I want is for siri to speak to me out loud. "Pardon Sir, remember your car is at".....
Reminds me of the Episode of The Walking Dead in Season 1 when they went to the CDC. The scientist who was there could verbalize commands and the computer would do so. Is this the type of technology we're coming across? And the fact that it is on an affordable device like the iPhone is ridiculous.
@IShogiI you're completely missing the point of this demonstration.. if everyone shared your opinion, we'd all be using mailboxes to send out letters to our friends instead of instant messaging. we'd all be walking instead of driving. and we wouldn't have a thermostat to just "do it ourselves". but i guess not everyone is an innovator.
